Now, every once and a while we go to a beach; It could be a lake beach or a ocean beach then we come home and play Minecraft and go to the beach and we don't see or hear any waves. I think that there should be moving waves. It'll be really fun to go to the beach in Minecraft to hang out instead of just going there to fish.
Then there are tsunamis, where a few days after a thunder storm a 30 block wave will come 50 blocks onto shore not causing any damage to builds and those sort of things, but will take out all but one heart for players, monsters, and animals.
If you don't like the idea of tsunamis it's okay but at least add waves to make the beach fun in Minecraft.
What about torches, levers, and buttons, and whatever else normal water would wash away? Would boats and minecarts break?
How high would waves rise up? In Alaska, there is plenty of evidence of prehistoric tsunamis that moreorless decapitated whole forests at a height of like half a mile above sea level or something crazy like that. I'm thinking at least a small portion of that might be from tectonic uplift or some similar force unrelated to water, but this gives you an idea of what kind of destructive power tsunamis can hold.
What about the water itself? In a tsunami, water can be drawn far, far away from the shore as the tsunami enters shallower territory. Would the tsunami soak up the existing water that forms the normal shoreline, and if it did, would that mean it destroys water sources? Or perhaps maybe it would create frostwalker-style temporary water sources further inland? If it encounters normal water in such a way as to form infinite springs, would those newly-created sources remain to flood the area?
I can live with the not griefing the terrain (personally I think there should be some materials that, like TNT and creepers, would be subject to tsunami damage), but there's a lot more detail that can and probably should go into this.

The waves will be 1 to 2 blocks high. I like the idea of boats and minecarts breaking but not the normal things that water breaks unless you want it a bit realistic. I personally like the frost walker kind of effect.
I don't support this suggestion, for several reasons.
One: This doesn't sound like a fun mechanic. The waves are okay, if you could program the game to recognize which bodies of water are wave-worthy and which are not, or if it were just an atmospheric noise on beaches. But the tsunamis? Regardless of whether or not it destroys terrain, a random, unstoppable, dangerous wave is not my idea of a good time.
Two: This doesn't seem like it would fit with Minecraft's water mechanics. What distinguishes one block of water from any other? Would peoples' wells make mini-tsunamis? Would the waves cause the water to actually move across blocks, and how would that work? If it got complicated enough, the physics of Minecraft's water would need to be reworked entirely.
I may offer my support to waves, if you go into a bit more detail about how they work. But I will never support adding natural disasters to Minecraft.
Though there are mods, I would like to see ocean biome water have a wavy effect to them. I think it would be a nice feature to a seemingly boring expanse of water and give an oceanic feel to it. Tsunamis...no way. I don't feel it will fit well in the Minecraft atmosphere.
come on! the tsunamis are great! i support, it will be good if it destroys a bit randomly the soils, and everything that water would wash away, it will force the players to build dams or reservoirs, and have a nice and intereresting phenomenon, also its not necessay to completely change the water mechanics, for example w = water ________wwww________ → ________________wwww a

How is that either good or fun? Why would it be entertaining to make a disaster devastate your animals, your land, and yourself if you don't build a giant ugly structure to stop it? It would be like if you made it so sometimes the Wither spawns randomly at night: a hurtful, frustrating, frightening disaster to players that are unprepared, or uninformed.
It would be highly discouraging to new players if their stuff was destroyed by a seemingly-unstoppable disaster that they had no idea about.
Also, making it a moving structure out of water blocks would probably be both ugly and buggy.
The original suggestion's tsunamis are pretty bad, but this idea is a disaster. Literally.
The waves are a good idea, but they need to be further explained. You're talking about waves in the sense of the waves mod and shaders, right?
Tsunamis, balanced or not, would probably cause too much lag. If something that extreme were to be added, it would have to be both optional and disabled by default.

Sort of. It's not implemented well in the mod, and I'm 99% sure it's not even updated passed version 1.8.
Look at some videos of shaders, though; some of them have a small wave effect in the water.

One of the problems that I have with the tsunami idea is that you stated they will occur a few days after a thunderstorm. Tsunamis in real life don't form because of thunderstorms but instead they form due to an earthquake occurring underwater. Another problem is that weather is random, so a scenario where a thunderstorm occurs and then another thunderstorm happens after that thunderstorm with a small break between each one. If that occurred then there would be two tsunamis pretty close together which can create a lot of lag on older computers.

Just... no. This mentality is completely broken and no smart game developer would ever use this reasoning. People don't want to waste time building dams when tsunamis can just not be in the game at all.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

I know that tsunamis are caused by that, it's just that if you want tsunamis to spawn like that, you'll have to add in earthquakes.

Even newer PC's could suffer, given Minecraft's quirky coding. Chunk/light updates alone can hinder newer machines.

i think it would be possible to make animated models (not textures) of the water still and water flowing . the same way that the dragon's head

The waves would look super ugly in this game, but might be passable. And I don't want a troll tsunami messing up everything I just made for no reason.
