This idea is fairly simple: what if there were a block which players and mobs could walk through, but was tangible in every other way? (could be placed and broken like an ordinary block, could be pushed by pistons, etc)

Like a ghost block? That's pretty cool, would work well for secret doors where you had to find out what block was fake.

I'm not sure what you mean, exactly; there's a bunch of placeable objects that players can walk through - such as signs, buttons, string, redstone, etc.
Paintings are a popular way of concealing an entrance too.
Or - radical idea - what about a door?! I guess that's not what you'd count as a block?
Most break when pushed by pistons, but a trapdoor or fence gate doesn't, and you can walk through that if it is open.
Maybe you want something that is invisible? Or you want it to be more block-like? What is the purpose of it?
I was thinking more along the lines of a ghost block. One that looks like a solid block and can be broken and placed like one, but mobs and players pass right through. Would be great for mapmakers who want completely concealed entrances, or for horror maps for ghost mobs to pass through (makes the intangibility of ghosts easier to show).

So, what would it look like? I mean - you said 'solid'. Like stone? Some new texture?
I think it could camouflage to blocks next to it, like in the Secret Rooms mod.

I was thinking it would be invisible, or nearly invisible. I was watching a youtube video by Mumbo Jumbo, as was thinking that it would be great if you could use one of his piston feed tapes to put a wall in place, and then some sort of intangible-to-players blocks to push the wall out of the way, as a means of opening the door.
In a similar manner, these could be used in challenge maps, to create a parkour course which would change as the player is moving, without needing command blocks to place or remove blocks.
OP, you should put this info in your first post. What is the block exactly? Is it made of metal, leaves, wood..?
