I think Minecraft should have gauntlets, which when worn with a chestplate will add a chainmail addition to the armor stretching from the gauntlet to the shoulder, so it gives it a long sleeve appearence. The gauntlets range from iron to diamond as usual, with the armors being 0.5 gold, 0.5 leather, 1 iron, 2 diamond. The chainmail going up the upper arm would be leather or rope for leather, iron for iron and gold, and gold for diamond. Gauntlets can be carved at anvils by placing an item in the 2nd slot with the gauntlet in the first, like with shields, but not in a crafting table. You could have 1 carving, like a creeper face or something similar. Gauntlets could also come with a glove on the end, leather for leather, leather for iron, gold for gold, and diamond for diamond.
Sorry but I don't see what this truly adds other than armor that exists for the sake of existing.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I think it may be better off if, rather than being just another armor, they increased unarmed damage but slightly decreased unarmed attack speed. That way a higher DPS item could exist. To balance it, though, the gauntlets should lose durability when hitting something, along with standard armor durability loss. If needed, then the gauntlets could potentially have a stunted base durability.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2
TES 3 Morrowind + TES 4 Oblivion + TES 5 Skyrim
Team Fortress 2
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
As Cerroz said, I don't see why we need this. It would mess with the 20-point armor system, and create a lot of annoying management (as you would not have to worry about building and maintaining a 5th piece of armor). It would also clutter inventory with another armor slot.
I'm sure you've heard the heads-shoulders-knees-and-toes song. Well, Minecraft armor follows that song nicely. Adding a slot for sleeves just wouldn't make sense.
Lastly, when I think of gauntlets, I think of a cup. Maybe a different name would be better.
Not a bad idea, but I'd prefer gauntlets to be more weaponised than just armor. You could do more damage with a punch, and you could wear one for each hand, but not be able to use them while wearing a chestplate? And maybe if you punched certain blocks with a gauntlet, it could turn into another block? (Maybe ice punched would become packed ice?) I don't know. But it's not a bad idea, just needs some tweaking. Support, if you change it up a little.
Edit: Maybe they could be less over the sleeves and more of the hands too. Think of Garnet's gauntlets from SU, they only really cover the hands and wrist.
