What is this? This suggestion topic is a compilation of the many little things that Notch seems to have forgotten or left behind. Tiny tweaks that could improve the game quite a bit, without really changing much. Please, post your own suggestions for minor tweaks below- there are too many small things being overlooked! Blocks and Bits -When landed on from a height (about five or six blocks), glass should shatter. This would be more realistic: since when did glass withstand any great force?
-Obsidian should take a little less time to mine. It hardly seems practical to have a block that takes so very long to mine- it should be toned down to something a little above redstone.
-Tired of trying desperately to get the right painting? Be frustrated no more! Simply press the number corresponding to the item in your hotbar and it will cycle through all the paintings. A ghost image of the painting will be displayed on the block the cursor is on, so you know just what you'll be decorating your walls with! Animals and Abominations -Slime spawn rates should be tweaked- they are a good monster, and it's a shame that one can only encounter them in the deepest caverns. They should be changed so they can spawn at any height, although only rarely in higher caves, in the darkness. Down at bedrock, they would spawn in large numbers at massive sizes, regardless of light levels.
-Sheep need to grow their wool back! It used to be that sheep would eat the grass off of dirt blocks, regaining wool as they did so. Now, when you shear a sheep, that's it; the sheep is useless. Even if you kill one, you get absolutely nothing. With this, shearing a sheep will not be the end of its life- you can let it go, knowing that it will come back to you again, plump and covered in that wool we all crave.
-Tired of having creepers blow up behind you without warning? Well, with this tweak, creepers should emit a very faint glow. It could tie in with them being fungi- after all, some fungus glows softly, doesn't it? So, when you see a light bobbing at the end of that cave, turn around and start running. (I'm not entirely sure about this one- it seems like something a lot of people would object to, as it would get rid of some of the terror of Minecraft. Although I'm sure that anyone that's had a creeper blow them into a pool of lava with that trip's worth of diamond will agree that they should be tweaked a teensy bit. Interface Tweaks -Ever think the menu (not the launcher) is a little... bland? When you arrive at the menu, the background should show slowly panning shots of one of your saves, randomly chosen, rendered with your current texture pack. It could be a cool and interesting way to show off your worlds, and would certainly make the menu more interesting.
-When you push a button in the menu, you should have to 'mine' it by holding down the left mouse button to break it instead of just pushing it. This would also introduce players to that aspect of the game, reducing the amount of 'how do I break blocks?!' posts in the support section- If you just click a button, a little text saying 'hold down the left mouse button' would appear over it. Then, when you hold down the button, cracks would appear on it and it would break before transitioning to your destination.
Conclusion Thank you very much for taking the time to read this suggestion! I will updating this post with suggestions from other people in this topic. If you would like to suggest a minor tweak, then post in this topic with a tweak and the reason you think it should be tweaked like this.

I've always been this way. A patched-up, crazy matryoshka.
I love every single one of these except for the creeper glowing one. How would a glowing creeper help you with getting blown up from behind?
And the new menu idea needs a bit of tweaking. First off, the mining-the-buttons gimmick would work well for the first-time player, but there should be an option to turn it off. It would get annoying quite fast.
Also with the new menu, I LOVE the terrain-generator menu background, but I fear it would cause a TON of lag. I was thinking of having a special 2D terrain generator that would be simpler (no caves, ores or anything too complex), so you could have a flat, birds-eye view of a random land.

It would cast light on blocks around it (could only be implemented when Notch makes handheld torches...) so that the blocks nearby you will light up in the darkness. It would be fun to have a non-hostile mob that glowed as well, so you see this glow, you whip around, have a heart attack, and then it's not a creeper :3

I agree with this, I don't think the breaking buttons gimmick was a very good idea in the first place personally :| It was just thrown in there because Interface looked lonely.

This is a great idea! We just need SOMETHING interesting. Who wants to stare at DIRT in the backgrounds of your beautiful menu? :3

Except for the creepers, I like the current 'hardcore' mode best; you screw up and it's all over sonny :>
