Since Notch has been talking about dog on his blog it only seems right to add kittens/cats to.. Personally I adore cats much more and would enjoy hving one of them instead. Also a backpack seems like a logical solution to make your inventory even larger while on the run... Making a backpack would take cloth and maybe string. Making backpacks in the game would be a great choice so players can carry more.. Then making it so they backpacks are customizable just like you player skin :smile.gif:
I hate how everyone goes "YAAAY LET'S ADD RANDOM MODERN ANIMAL PETS TO MINECRAFT. UMG DEY NEVUR DESPAWN"
Kind of splitting hairs here, considering cats and dogs have been domesticated just as long, if not longer, than sheep, pigs, and cows.
I like the idea of dogs, as they have practical purpose (hopefully). As was their original purpose, domesticated dogs could be used for hunting, herding, or guarding a keep. Cats wouldn't be functional, just fun, unless Notch also added vermin to the game (which I doubt he'd do, and I wouldn't advocate for). Not saying that's necessarily bad - plenty of stuff in Minecraft (bookcases, paintings) only serves a fun/aesthetic purpose, not a functional one. Personally, I'd like cats - ideally, I could fill my keep with around hundreds of them, and be the crazy cat person of my server. Or something.
I feel like a backpack would reduce the fun of the game that is having to actually plan and figure out how much stuff you can carry and what is important to take with you on an expedition. Balancing 'this could be useful in a bind' and 'I need room for stuff I collect' is a fun, challenging element of exploring and spelunking trips for me. Also, I sort of always assumed the inventory was an implied 'backpack' to begin with. No way you could carry all that stuff with your hands.

You should be able to carry your cat around in a backpack (or "satchel", rather.)
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
