You know when you look at sand or stone you can see how the textures are made up of little squares? Well, with a chisel you can chip tiny blocks, the size of those texture blocks, off an Obsidian block. Players can use this to make tiny sculpture too decorate places with. This will add a whole new level to the scale of detail allowed within Minecraft, and people could make models of their favorite characters or Gothic dragons to decorate castles with.
To make a chisel, simply align iron like this:
[] [] []
[]
This alignment forms the narrow tip as seen on the left and the thicker body on the right. This would be endlessly useful and creating things on a smaller scale, something completely non-existent in Minecraft currently.
Also, each sculpture, no matter how small, is still treated as 1 block.
Or, another idea, is the chisel is instead made of diamond, as it is chiseling an obsidian block after all.

Edit:
It is still block based, if you read the beginning this would be obvious.
"Well, with a chisel you can chip tiny blocks, the size of those texture blocks, off an Obsidian block."
The blocks being chipped would have a grid of their own, which they already basically have in their texture.
Its sounds like a good idea but is probably too complicated for minecraft right now... And the point of the game is to make things with blocks not different shapes... Just saying :smile.gif:

Nope, it would still be blocks. Just small ones and you would be chipping away them from a normal sized blocks. It would be no way to complicated for a game that automatically generates very complex maps.

OH Okay I thought you meant something different you mean the blocks would still be square but smaller? I had an Idea like this but I didn't think of how you would make the smaller blocks
I just have one question, what happens if you step on a chiseled obsidian block? Will it stab though your foot (and your boot) and then inflict damage?
Or will it break it chiseled in a particular formation?
Also, what would you be able to do with a scale-model nether portal?
There are many different parts of this idea that need to be developed.
But IMO, I think this is just a little too detailed for this game.
Cool, yes.
Fitting, not really.

WOAH, WAIT. Our eyes take pictures? Please tell me I can recover these pictures from another person.
You have to stick a thumb drive up their nose, drag and drop the pictures onto it, and then load them through your ear.

Could be neat but can't see it happening.
Incompetence is a plague. I am the cure.
For all your wolf suggestion needs, I present the WOLF MEGATHREAD!

No, only Obsidan, you're basically chipping of the pixels on the texture, but instead, the pixels are now blocks making up the Obsidan block.
