I prefer the newer one because they look sooooo much better, I don't know why this affects you(every mind is different is not even one's match another one's mind.)
You can always use a resource pack to revert to the old textures; open up the jar for an older version and extract the textures (located in assets\minecraft\textures\blocks; they have names like wool_colored_black and are the last files when listed in alphabetical order) and place them in a resource pack with the same path inside (only the textures you want to change are required).
Note that some colors are hard-coded into the game, such as wool on sheep, so you would need a mod to change them, but the colors of most blocks are not (I'd expect that Mojang would eventually let you change the internal colors with a resource pack, or perhaps the "data packs" I saw mentioned for 1.13).
I really really liked the old light blue because it was sky blue. Now it looks more like aqua or electric blue. All the other new colors are fine but green seems to be more dull now.
I personally think that the new 1.12 textures for wool are hideous (especially yellow & light blue), and I think a lot of people agree.
I would just like to request that Mojang fix the wool textures (at least yellow & light blue) to what they were before 1.12.
The new wool colors exist because of a new palette. I personally think they look just fine.
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
I don't even really know the differences.
I don't really care, I never use wool so much.
Remake and extension: Action-packed fantasy adventure fanfic --> It Was a CreepeREMAKE
Entity 42: The Life, The Universe, And, Everything. Maybe even another Entity 42.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Doing pixel art is now a nightmare with the new wool..
The old red was AWFUL. I love red, or at least I normally do but the old red wool texture was horrible.
Just curious, that's all.
