Imagine this; sand has a basic physic engine, what if notch extended that functionality to water physics.
For instance, If you place wood in water, it will float to the surface, and if you attach stone to the wood, the little stone-wood would swing to the side with more weight. so you would have to balance the little float out by adding more wood to keep it afloat.
You could then begin to design boats/ships/floating houses that need to be balanced in order to stay afloat
Then you could create coal burning motors. they would basically act as movement generators and push you through the water.
then for **** and giggles, notch should add in the ability to collect rain water, store it in buckets/barrels. Then mix a barrel of water with some sugar from sugar cane and leave it for a period of time and it becomes beer that you can distil and use in a furnace.
Or mix water with apples and a barrel to make apple cider and it recovers health.
Maybe if every block had an align mode that was actived under normal cicumstances. but when attatched to a floating wood block that mode is off and the blocks can move free. (just like animals and mobs)?
no you can't. Blocks are just the representation values stored in a bad-ass 3D matrix. So every cell has the same size, etc.
It means that blocks are ALWAYS aligned with the grid.
What about boats and carts?
They are entities, whole different ballgame or whatever the saying is.
