Personally I think you should just look to mods for magic, especially seeing as even if mojang did add a magic system, or mythical creatures to vanilla(which they will not as the others have said) there is no way that they would even come close to what is added by mods such as thuamcraft(although thaumcraft is now discontinued ), ars magica or ice and fire.
Actually thaumcraft does exist, but not as you would think. Look up Pengu's Lost Thaumaturgy.

I like the bit with totems. Not the spells, though, and only half of the creatures (hippocampi, mermaids, and fairies). I support the enchantments, but they shouldn't be available on the enchantment table; only as treasure enchantments. Minecraft is ready for some of these, but not all of them.
For those who keeps trying to argue against this guy, just give up, Cerroz knows what he's talking about and has a better argument than most of us will ever have, cuz yeah, there is no necessity for "real magic" in this game called minecraft.

i didn't read all, and so I won't support nor not support, but personally i missed the more "natural" updates.
recently we got new mythical mobs. from shulker, husk, stray, vindicator, evoker, vex, and illusioner. yeah, they added some animals, like polar bear, llama, and parrot, but I want more. especially the ocean. fishes? crabs? and also little critters. bugs? (not game bugs) worms?
anyway,

too torturing. crazily affect combat.
Totems
just effects & enchs. nothing new.

Magic Resistance - Magic, no comment.
Counter Attack - Basically thorns, eh?
Lightness - We have haste.
Penetration - OK.
Mage - Magic, no comment
Curse of Rending - Eh? Just a curse. OK.
Mobs
Red dragon - Like Notch's one, right?
Hippogryph - Will rekting the sky.
Hippocampi - Guardian will be easy with this. :[
Mermaid - Not hostile, eh?
Fairy - gives or drops? 1 minute? fly?
Gorgon - then how you kill it if you can't aim to it?
Naga - after being persuaded, then what? tamed? btw, naga translates to dragon in indonesian.
edit: i also prefer original hostile mobs, like, say, creeper, enderman, over common mythical mobs, like, hydra, gorgon and werewolf.
