I would like to suggest a idea for the 1.13 update: The Magical Update
Now before you leave thinking this will add a new system that is not already in minecraft, you are wrong, as this idea uses things already in minecraft, but more on that later.
This update adds several main things: magic spells used through scrolls, several mythical creatures, several new enchantments, and a some new totems.
Spells
There would be many scrolls added, found as loot in dungeons, rare drops from certain mobs, and traded. Almost all of them will be found in chests in the various structures, such as dungeons, nether forts, and strongholds. Many of them can also be bought from a new type of villagers, the Mage, who wears blue robes. However, a select few can only be got a drops from a select few mobs. Spells use experience levels to fuel their powers. The more powerful the spell, the more experience levels required.

Spell of Magic Missile - shoots a burst of energy - rarity = Common - Xp levels = 1
Fireball Spell - shoots a fireball that sets the target ablaze on impact - rarity = Common - Xp levels = 2
Incantation of the Wind Walker - gives you speed 2 and jump boost 6 for 5 min - rarity = Rare - Xp levels = 5
Spell of Ore Sense - Tells you if the ingot you have in the offhand is withing 20 blocks of you - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 10 + 1 for every ore located

*Incantation of the Lava Bather - Gives you fire resistance for 5 min - rarity = Common - Xp levels = 7

Rite of Protection - Makes you invulnerable for 1 min - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 15
Incantation of the Forest - Summons 5 wolves to defend you - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 10
Spell of Shielding - Gives you resistance 1 for a minute - rarity = Rare - Xp levels = 5
Curse of Withering - Gives the afflicted wither for a minute - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 7
Hex of Slowness - Gives the afflicted intense slowness - rarity = Rare - Xp levels = 5
**Rite of Protective Spikes - Summons rings of spikes around the caster - rarity = very rare - Xp levels = 7
**Spell of Spike Stream - Summons a Stream of spikes in front of the caster - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 7
**Incantation of Summoning Vexes - Summons 2 - 3 Vexes that attack hostile entities and player other than the caster - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 10
Hex of Weakness - Severely weakens victim - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 5
Curse of Torture - Immobilizes target and deals 1 point of damage per second - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 1 level per second
Scroll of Teleportation - Teleports the user instantly to the aimed location - rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 3 levels per 10 blocks
***Rite of Ender Disjunctive - Opens your ender chest inventory - Rarity = Very Rare - Xp levels = 10 levels
***Curse of Levitation - Causes victim to levitate - Rarity = Common - Xp levels = 5
Curse of Control - Binds to victim and allows them to control them while holding the scroll - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 10 levels every time you control victim
Scroll of Return - Shift right click to mark location and return to it - rarity = Rare - Xp levels = 10
Curse of Death - Instantly kills non boss target, 50 damage to bosses - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 20
Incantation of the Storm - Summons a lighting bolt - rarity = Very rare
Rite of Healing - Heals you to full health -rarity = very rare - Xp levels = 10
Rite of Filling - Fills you hunger - rarity = rare - Xp levels - 7
Spell of Invisibility - Makes caster invisible - rarity = common - Xp levels = 7
Rite of the Sun - Sets the time to day - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 25
Incantation of the Moon - Sets the time to night - rarity = Legendary - Xp levels = 25
Spell of Arrow Burst - Fires any arrows in you inventory at high speed - 1 level per 5 arrows
Rite of Fertility - Uses bonemeal on the nearby land - rarity = Common - 5 levels
Spell of the Guardians - Fires a Guardian beam - rarity = Very Rare - 7 levels
Rite of the Creeper - Explodes the caster - rarity = Rare - 7 levels
Totems
Totems can be rarely be gotten from killing mobs, albeit very,very rarely. All totems can be found at the same rate

Totem of Strengthening - gives you strength
Totem of Swiftness - gives you speed
Totem of Mining - gives you haste
Totem of Healing - gives you regen
Totem of Nourishment - Fills you hunger
Totem of Reflection - Reflects damage to enemies
Totem of Arrow Resistance - Makes you resistant to projectiles
Totem of Explosion Resistance - Makes you resistant to explosions
Totem of Fire Resistance - Makes you take less damage from fire
Enchantments
There are several new enchants added
Magic Resistance - Reduces damage from magic and potions
Counter Attack - Chance to counter attack enemies when struck
Lightness - tools move faster
Penetration - Bypasses 3 points of armor per level
Mage - Increases magic power and reduces cost by 1 level
Curse of Rending - Extra damage to the tool enchanted with this.
Mythical Creatures
There are several mythical and magical creatures added by this update.
Red dragon - can be found deep underground in dragon lair caves and in dragons roosts in the mountains. Protects its eggs with its life and if killed, you can hatch one by setting in on fire.
Hippogryph - Found in its nest and flying across the sky, these creatures are difficult to tame, by can fly once tamed.
Hippocampi - Found deep underwater. Once tamed, you can see, breath underwater, and speed underwater.
Mermaid - Make music, but will trade in gold, emeralds, and diamonds to enchant books.
Fairy - give you pixie dust, which can make you fly for 1 minute
Gorgon - instant death to look at, but gives you a gorgon head which can turn creatures to stone.
Naga - Half woman and half snake, these creatures are deadly, but can be persuaded through a gift of a weapon.
And that is about it!!!!

I never thought about it, but that is a good way of adding new totems. Why not have a buffing totem I love it. I'm not as interested in the rest of the ideas and think there should be a more solid way of getting these items other than a rare drop from mobs. What if you combine nether star with an undying totem or something else and it randomly chooses a totem to give you, perhaps even copying one that you already have?
Just an idea. I love to see more totems in the game and believe this would be the best idea.
A lot of this stuff is clichéd things that we sort of already have, and the mobs are something that are for a generic RPG game and not really vanilla. If we have enchantments and potions, why do we need another form of magic? It's redundant at that point. Most of the spells are overpowered and the totems look like strange copies of beacons.

Hey darkmagi101, that is actually a good idea, but it might be better if you craft a blank totem out of clay or something, and then the nether star, besides the nether star needs more uses. You might also be able to choose the effect by adding 3 potions that are exactly the same to the party.

Yeah, ok. But the alchemy and brewing isn't the same thing as witchery and wizardry. I don't feel like making this game a magical game is the way minecraft should go. Also, try to avoid the greek mythology and/or any creatures that don't seem vanilla.

That's enough XP to get from level 0 to level 133, and then some. Now, that isn't very realistic, but it means that at max efficiency you could get from 0 to 30 in under a minute and a half.

Now, that isn't very realistic, but it means that at max efficiency you could get from 0 to 30 in under a minute and a half.
Thing is, not everyone knows how to or can built that in survival

This same update idea has been suggested time and time again.. But to be honest, i think the worst offender of this update is the fact that under the red dragon portion of the idea, it seems you suggest hatching it.. Let me just go ahead and take a guess, Red dragon pets/mounts/overpoweredoverused stuff that NO ONE wants? Yeah...
Not to mention the mobs are VERY vague, No stats, No appearance... Some don't even have very "thought out or even just documented" behavior...
FWI ivuul, the dragon would not be op, you would have to kill the dragon guarding the egg first, which shoots fire balls, streams of fire, and can bite, tail whip, and shake you to death, and most of those do insane damage. then you have to hatch it, and that would take atleast 10 minecraft days. Then you would have to wait for it to grow up, which just to breath fire would take over 50 minecraft days. Also, even then it is not all that op, cause its max health is 100, and that is at the fully grown stage of life.

Adding extra steps would not make it any less OP, An OP idea is still OP.. Think of Server balance, Think of the fact that this would make any other forms of travel obsolete, This would make Elytra, the current end game gliding item obsolete...

There is no current model for the red dragon, so it could be a dragon whose wings are so small it cant fly. I think that is how it would work, and you could give it the ability to fly, but you have to get an elytra first, and then you would need to use it on it, but even then it takes time to grow the wings and only then could it fly.

Spells are basically enchanted books. Totems are basically potions. It would be easier to edit potions/enchanted books instead of adding brand new items.. The enchantments are good, but the mobs seem WAY too OP.

To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.

But it's unique, and it doesn't copy what's in the game already. We don't need a totem that gives you strength if we have strength potions. We don't need a totem of regeneration if there's both a potion and food mechanic that handles both of these things.

Why is it so important that we need "true magic"? A lot of those are not necessary anyway. Why do I need to use up XP to set a bunch of mobs around me on fire when I have Fire Aspect? Or I just spam my Flint & Steel?

The mechanics are explained well enough, but the whole concept is something I find unnecessary and I can't see Minecraft as a spells/scrolls kind of game. If Mojang added more magic stuff, I'd hope it's done in a more original.

Personally I think you should just look to mods for magic, especially seeing as even if mojang did add a magic system, or mythical creatures to vanilla(which they will not as the others have said) there is no way that they would even come close to what is added by mods such as thuamcraft(although thaumcraft is now discontinued ), ars magica or ice and fire.

Say, for example, ilmango's Ender Ender. It is very easy to build and, I quote, "yields 60,000 XP per hour and 25,000 ender pearls per hour." That's enough XP to get from level 0 to level 133, and then some. Now, that isn't very realistic, but it means that at max efficiency you could get from 0 to 30 in under a minute and a half.

This same update idea has been suggested time and time again.. But to be honest, i think the worst offender of this update is the fact that under the red dragon portion of the idea, it seems you suggest hatching it.. Let me just go ahead and take a guess, Red dragon pets/mounts/overpoweredoverused stuff that NO ONE wants? Yeah...
Not to mention the mobs are VERY vague, No stats, No appearance... Some don't even have very "thought out or even just documented" behavior...

FWI ivuul, the dragon would not be op, you would have to kill the dragon guarding the egg first, which shoots fire balls, streams of fire, and can bite, tail whip, and shake you to death, and most of those do insane damage. then you have to hatch it, and that would take atleast 10 minecraft days. Then you would have to wait for it to grow up, which just to breath fire would take over 50 minecraft days. Also, even then it is not all that op, cause its max health is 100, and that is at the fully grown stage of life.

Adding extra steps would not make it any less OP, An OP idea is still OP.. Think of Server balance, Think of the fact that this would make any other forms of travel obsolete, This would make Elytra, the current end game gliding item obsolete...

Spells are basically enchanted books. Totems are basically potions. It would be easier to edit potions/enchanted books instead of adding brand new items.. The enchantments are good, but the mobs seem WAY too OP.

To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.

But it's unique, and it doesn't copy what's in the game already. We don't need a totem that gives you strength if we have strength potions. We don't need a totem of regeneration if there's both a potion and food mechanic that handles both of these things.
Why is it so important that we need "true magic"? A lot of those are not necessary anyway. Why do I need to use up XP to set a bunch of mobs around me on fire when I have Fire Aspect? Or I just spam my Flint & Steel?
The mechanics are explained well enough, but the whole concept is something I find unnecessary and I can't see Minecraft as a spells/scrolls kind of game. If Mojang added more magic stuff, I'd hope it's done in a more original.

Personally I think you should just look to mods for magic, especially seeing as even if mojang did add a magic system, or mythical creatures to vanilla(which they will not as the others have said) there is no way that they would even come close to what is added by mods such as thuamcraft(although thaumcraft is now discontinued ), ars magica or ice and fire.
