So first of all... This is my opinión so, dont get mad please D: I am not going to "get mad", unless you say something to personally offend me. (Much of that speech are not allowed on this forum anyway) It is my job as a critic to point out the good and/or bad parts of a suggestion.
Well let's start:
So everyone knows that the 1.12 update has come out. (The World of Colors Update) When making a suggestion, you don't need to point out anything about recent versions. You don't need to schedule updates for Mojang.
So the question is the next...
¿What are they going to add in the next update? Considering there is little to no news about this next update, besides changes to how block IDs work, I don't think this is a question that can be answered.
So lets think about something, one thing what we wanted and mojang promised to us, what in a future would be a "modding update" Oh boy...
Where the players we can use or make the mods more easily, but lets think about something... Um... What did you say? I didn't understand any of that.
It would not be unfair to only apply that update to one version ?
the reason is because the mods in minecraft started to appear in the 1.5.2 version (I think...) Mods for Minecraft existed back in the days of Beta Minecraft as far as I know.
so I have a little theory...this update its taking so long because mojang is trying to apply this
update to all that versions (1.5.2,1.6.4,1.7.2,etc)
If that happens the quantity of modders and new mods would increase... (I think....again)
but one thing would be missing, lets talk about the discontinued mods,
lets think what in that update they give us the option to update old mods
There is a example, one abandoned mod is the Orespawn (stuck in 1.7.10)
so we have that option to update that mod to another version. Updating a mod to another version is something that requires user input, and can't just be done automatically. Especially with the foreshadowed update to Block IDs, I imagine a lot of mods are going to have to change the way they work.
And with that we leave this thread here...
Welp any reader here wait a moment and think about the possibilities with this option
(new modpacks , revive discontinued mods ,easily way to make mods ,etc)
Leave me your opinion on this topic and if you think it would be the best thing that could happen to this game
But let's face it, who did not bother to see that his favorite mod was discontinued and abandoned ?
Support Pending.
I can only assume that what you want is automatic mod conversion from one version to another. While this is a feature that I would love to have, it is something that really isn't possible, because most mods do a lot more than just adding mobs, blocks or items, examples being most of Reika's mods, (RotaryCraft, Chromaticraft, etc.) most "Barrel" mods, (Which are able to display the item inside the barrel on the front of the barrel.) or any mod with pipes or wires.

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
So lets think about something, one thing what we wanted and mojang promised to us, what in a future would be a "modding update"
Adding something like this is a lot easier said than done. I'd rather have updates on the game before anything having to do with mods since they're a third-party thing. I'd like to think everyone wants easier modding but it's not something that can be done at the snap of someone's fingers.
There's also no point in mentioning versions of updates. I don't get why you're doing that. Mojang is gonna pick what versions they want to add stuff in, not what someone on a forum picked.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
In a sense Mojang has been adding mod support to the game bit by bit - just not the way most people think when they hear "mod API". Have you ever seen what can be done with command blocks these days? I even see people referring to them as "modpacks". And in most games that is exactly what a "mod API" is - not editing the game's code (either directly changing the files or via an API like Forge which uses the same language as the game and directly interfaces with the code) - but a scripting language (in this case, one of Mojang's own design, as opposed to a language like Lua) and the ability to change textures and models.
Mojang will also certainly never update an older version to include a mod API - even in the presence of bugs that make it difficult or even impossible to play them; for example:
Downgrading is not, was never and will never be officially supported.
We should be happy that Mojang even lets us play older versions - unlike most other games, where you need to find a pirated copy in order to downgrade (personally, I also don't get why a mod *has* to be updated to the latest version, especially if the mod adds features present anyway; I have a 1.6.4 mod that adds features that are similar to those in various versions up to 1.10, and consider a mod that alters the game to the extent it does to be like its own version, not based on any vanilla version. I believe there were mods that added stuff like concrete and parrots long before 1.12 and resource packs can be used to change the colors of wool).

I think what you want is automatic mod updating, which is near impossible. The way modding works has changed over time. If it was so easy to update a mod to the point where it can automatically be done, people would've already updated their mods by now and there wouldn't be a lot of good reasons to not update a mod.
Also, Mojang won't apply an update to all versions. After Mojang releases a new version of Minecraft (In this case, 1.13), then the previous version (1.12) will be discontinued and never to be updated again. They would never just randomly update every version of Minecraft.

I think people go about a mod version all wrong. There are plenty of games that handle modding just fine. It's best to not think of a mod update to be an extension of the current mod system in Minecraft (i.e. non-existent on a 1st party side); but a complete overhaul and drastic change to it.
It would take a lot of work though, such as casting blocks and mechanics as primitives for the modder to use; but it would not, by any means be impossible.
Here's how other moddable games generally do it:
1) Create a mod workshop where you can store mods.
2) Have the ability to load and unload various mods and give players the ability of mod priority.
3) Allow servers to have a mod whitelist, mod blacklist, and mod requirement sheet. (players that don't have required mods simply can't join the server).
3a) The mod requirement sheet can auto populate according to mods server owner has active.
4) Allow active mods to flag incompatible mods. Trying to load several incompatible mods will simply load according to priority and ignore incompatibles.
Essentially, change "modification" into "module". It's still a modification, it's just encapsulated and easy to add or remove.

Auto-Updates must be enabled especially on the latest by Mojang!
Welp, thanks for the opinions here and sorry about the ugly Wall of text because this is one of my first fórum post i make, and the random orthographic errors are because i am peruvian, i am not a expert in english, but its something. I played this game like 4 years ago and i dont know a lot about
modding, but its kinda annoying, some mods got discontinued and i play a lot with mods. I just hope to see someday a update based on mods....

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
