That's some pretty subjective reasoning. I mean I do 60% support, but I'm not seeing why 'characters' are being mentioned.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Now I'm getting confused. Is the statue actually Steve or Alex in every way but standing still?

What he means is the Steve and Alex models are different, the main difference being Steve's arms are bigger and blockier, while Alex's are slimmer. Then when you've selected which model you want, you can pick a specific players skin, or load one in.
Also, I support, as it would be a good idea for map makers, as well as regular players wanting a statue of them in their base.
Or using them as PvP decoys. The possibilities are somewhat endless.
I do have a couple questions however;
Since they're basically a player model, would mobs be attracted to them?
Do you think you could upgrade the suggestion to include heads? (Same concept, just using a mob head, would really be a mapmaker things because of the hardness of obtaining any mob heads in a legit survival)
All around, support.

Yes that poem is very easy to mess up.
Yeah, I support stuff. Although most of this is between 'would enjoy in game' to 'holy jeez meh needyz!'
Now, I could complain that you could just put the head of the player on an armor stand, but I suppose you might actually want the player model, not the armor stand model.
I don't like the idea of grabbing skins in survival without commands, though. I experience a huge lag spike when I try to get the head of a certain player using commands, and I don't like the idea of a person on a server being able to create a whole bunch of these and start lagging the server to it's knees.
So here's what I would change:
- The crafting recipe should involve stone, considering this is a "statue"
- Rather than typing in a player's name, you should be able to right-click with a player head gotten from commands in order to change the statue's skin. If you don't have that, you can switch the statue between Alex and Steve's skin, and you can place armor on the statue.
- Statues should have names float above their head. Not as if they had been right-clicked with a nametag, but as if they were another player. I can see that being useful in a map making situation.
- Maybe allow posing the statue without needing to use a command block?

My avatar is a texture from a small block game I made in Python. It's not very good and it probably won't work if you install it.
I'm very alone in my Minecraft worlds as I don't have a very good internet connection to run a server. If you're like me, you might be interested in my Posse mod suggestion.
I have to say seeing armor stands and villagers in place of NPCs is alittle disengaging. There are mods to place characters as models, but this often just tricks the game into thinking this is another player.
Personally, I would just add a human spawn egg to the game and naming such a human would copy that player's skin. Right clicking the player while in creative would allow for customization, while in survival or adventure would complete whatever function is assigned to that NPC.
Customization:
-Equipment including left and right hands
-Function Editing...
+Run a command
+Open Trade
+Display Dialog
+Open Chest? (a preset chest GUI)
-AI Editing...
+Set preset mob AI
+Set Turtle AI(such as in computer craft mod)
+Set Mimic AI(records your movement for set time)
This would give map makers plenty to work with. I love the idea of statues, but I do feel it would be a better fit as a creative mode exclusive. Though it would be funny watching players try to kill a statue version of you while you set off a trap.
When making a story map you need characters, however, when they all look the same (i.e. Villagers) it can tend to be bland and boring.
The statue block is crafted by surrounding an Armor Stand with any dye in a crafting table.
When the block is placed it will ask for a format (Alex or Steve), then a username or skin file.
After the steps are completed the statue will have the skin and can be equipped with armor and hand items.
The statue faces the direction the player is when placing the block.
This would give maps, houses, halls of fame etc. a more exciting and memorable experience!
With an infinite amount of combinations for the statue's skin!

In story maps you're basically writing a story that a player has to uncover, and most stories have characters, that's where the termology came from.
Do you think it could have a better term rather than statue, if it can have a more professional look with different terms I'm all ears!
(I promise that last string of text isn't sarcastic)
