Now, it may not be a weapon, buy I have seen dumb flash light ideas. Well, we already have one. How about just simply holding glow-stone blocks and already lit torches work for lighting? It is simple and practical. Next, maybe some new bow types using bones? I know it is suggested, but a better explanation would be in order on how it should work. I don't support it though.

I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.
im not TOO good at explaining things, but im going to try.
i have many weapons that id love to see, but the Halberd is one of my tops favs.
and would be crafted something like
[]
[] []
or something close to it.
its used for stabbing, slashing, and just plain beating stuff up.
it would do 4 hearts at the highest, and the hit rate would be really slow. any suggestions to fix/balance it would help, maybe a new crafting recipe.
One alternative use it can have is being a far reaching Axe-like tool as well that can chop down trees further away. It could do less damage than a sword, but still have a reason to exist beyond hitting this from afar. Since hit rate cannot be changed most of the time in minecraft (hit speed is always the same with all items swung with left click), and most of the time new items should have more uses than benefits or weaknesses.
I don't think AJ will mind, you have my permission (since I'm responsible for coming up with many of the details on the ideas) so you can always take it down if he has issues, and you can always link to my threads if that ends up happening.
Also:
People! Consider your recipes and what all they imply! If an Iron Greatsword costs 6-10 iron to make then it should have abilities that make it worth spending that much material. That same amount of material could make 3 - 5 swords instead.
But catch-22; a weapon that does one shot kills, or has a melee range of 5 blocks and massive knockback and is just generally overpowered will STILL be overpowered even if it costs 10 diamond to make.
I don't know if there it was mentioned in a separate thread, but I thought it deserves a mention:
The design is as follows:
[] []
[] []
[] []
Let us assume the middle of the grid will symbolize what material should there be to improve the boomerang. if it was as is, it would just be a plain wooden boomerang with average range, low damage and low durability.
If stone (not cobblestone) was placed into the center, it would increase durability, but range will be still be lowered and so will it's damage. But it can stun enemies
If it's iron, greater damage, range and durability.
It it's diamond: better range, greater damage and extremely durable.
If the boomerang makes contact with a surface like dirt, wood or stone, it could either be stuck on the surface unless you harvest it with a pick or it can just "bounce" off and drop to the floor for easy pickup. If it makes contact with lava when thrown, it will be destroyed.
im not TOO good at explaining things, but im going to try.

this is a wooden club with sharpened obsidian sticking out of the sides. In RL this sword can cut through the neck of a fully grown horse so it should be highly effective in minecraft, but have longer times in between hitting. the wooden version will be 1.5X the strength (of iron) and .75X the speed of a standard sword. this would have the durability of wood. the iron one would have 2X the damage but half the speed of a standard iron sword with the durability of a diamond sword. gold is the same as a wooden one

The problem is that there is no way to reduce the amount of times a weapon can be swung because all items when used with the left click will swing at the same speed. I was thinking of this more like an alternative weapon to swords, where it doesn't use any tool tiers except for Obsidian (making it a stand alone weapon). The only thing that comes with that is balance, durability and usefulness.

So it uses dyed wool and ores? Thats pretty nifty.
For the Fire gloves, being able to shoot a fireball would be nice, but 10 still seems like a lot of charges for some reason depending on it's chances of catching things on fire, which is pretty high. Do you use charges when using the fists with the left click? Does the item break when it runs out of charges?
Not sure about how the moving lightsource can be made unless it creates a fragmented block that lasts for a few seconds in the path of the fireball but quickly goes out after the fireball leaves the area. That would take a lot of effort to work with however.
The Ice gloves i like. Double damage may be fun to play with, but that would make the gloves attack go from 2 to 4 damage. Not sure if this is TOO bad, considering two swings from a Diamond sword can kill a mob with 10 HP, and being able to stun/slow on hit would be useful at times. Being able to create ice and frost lava with this item makes it a great utility item as well, and not just a weapon.
For the lightning gloves though the 5 damage without rest makes it kind of overpowered, moreso than an arrow or even the diamond sword (since the diamond sword does require the damage cooldown before it can do damage again), and with 20 charges you could be frying enemies far easier than normal. Perhaps the damage can be toned down a bit to justify all of it's charges. Holding the left click to activate an effect with these would mean it cannot break blocks or objects, which may be a bit cumbersome on item standards, since it would be the first item that left click doesn't allow the breaking of blocks with. Doubling of speed with the effect would be great for cross country escapades.
So far, there are a few bugs with the items to be addressed, and although they are magical in nature, since they do other things beyond obliterate mobs in one hit, I kind of taken a liking to them.
I made this a while ago too
So, the current recipe for sword would be the short sword
this recipe would give you a long sword
[] []
[]
[]
this would give a dagger
[]
[]
to get a claymore you would need to make a pole
[]
[]
then make a long sword, then
[] []
[]
[]
if = long sword
and = pole
a dagger would deal very little damage, but more than your fist, and can be thrown, aswell as being able to back stab, doing double damage to both dagger and foe
gold daggers do 5 damage per backstab
the short sword is the current one
the long sword does a little more damage
the claymore does MASSIVE damage, and if dual wielding came to be, you could not dual wield it.

Paranoid: Moderate. Schizoid: Moderate. Schizotypal: High. Antisocial: Low. Borderline: Low. Histrionic: Moderate. Narcissistic: Moderate. Avoidant: Moderate. Dependent: Moderate. Obsessive-Compulsive: High. Does this make me nuts?
Ideas about dashing are fine by me, as well as the katana that can swing faster but does not do knockback.
Greatsword ideas are lame. A heavy blade cannot be swung like a normal sword, up and down. Instead, it must be swung close to the ground in an arc. In short, it could strike more than one opponent if all the enemies are at your plane or below you but not above. Swinning in a tunnel would either destroy the dirt or be blocked/slowed by the stone.
Each weapon would have a different swinging range and angle, just changing the damage isn't enough.
Greatsword ideas are lame. A heavy blade cannot be swung like a normal sword, up and down. Instead, it must be swung close to the ground in an arc.
No, it doesn't. I've used greatswords. they actually aren't nearly as heavy as you'd think they are and are perfectly capable of swinging them up and down just as easily as left and right.
Of course, the recipes people are proposing for these greatswords are either bordering on ridiculous, or not even bothering to border it.
So it uses dyed wool and ores? Thats pretty nifty.

Left Click would use 1 charge, but i'm not sure if I should make right click use up 2 or more like 1.5 since if you can only use an item 5-6 times you'd blow through them pretty fast and have to grab another from your inventory mid battle. Maybe give it a blast radius to balance it out? And yes, the item breaks when charges run out... *idea spark* OR maybe it could be turned into a normal glove. Normal gloves would be fused with 1 dye and the appropriate ore to sort of 'recharge' the glove. it would use less than 4 squares so you could do it on the run. Just a thought.
Moving light source just made sense to me, but thinking about the mechanics later did make it seem... unnecessary.

These were my favorite too. Double damage was an after thought since their attack power was so low and it takes a pretty rare ore to make them.

Instead of the high damage, it could be brought down to 3 and when the ranged attack misses it lays a sort of trap on the block it hits. If a mob touches that block they could be stunned for about 2-3 seconds before able to move again. As far as the speed goes I'm not sure how else it would be activated besides holding left click. Any Suggestions?
I had an idea for elemental boots. Where the fire one would leave a trail of flames, the ice one would let you walk across or under water, the lightning ones would be speed. But I couldn't figure out a way to turn the effects on and off for something that isn't in your hand.

HAVE YOU ever been tired of nearly getting killed by your TNT mining? Well the answer to keeping it ranged other than redstone? (Which somewhat hard to find. For you. Not for me.) Here comes the ranged fire blaster!
You craft it as so:
[] []
[]
The torches are for lighting the Gunpowder of course. Here is how it will work.
Eventually, the metal will get soft after lighting the torches. You then throw the bomb. Releasing and explosion, and a new fluid weaker than lava, melted items. The melted iron/items will be in the area for about...lets say 5-12 seconds depending on if there is water near. If you touch it, or mobs touch it, they will be dealt 1 1/2 a heart of damage. That is not a lot. But the explosion is 2/4 the power of TNT! So that is approx. 7-8 1/2 a heart of damage! And any TNT in the area WILL EXPLODE.
That was my bomb suggestion. (Legend of Zelda anybody?) Now...
Ok I think that's a better design for the greatsword, but maybe an even more edited recipe?
