NEW WEAPON IDEAS MEGATHREAD
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since there are a lot of good ideas for new weapons floating around and then falling deep into the recesses of the 5th page or so, I thought I would make an area where we can list all of the weapon ideas, and discuss balancing them, fixing them, or making them all around better for Minecraft Beta.
If you have a weapon idea that you want help/feedback on, or just want somewhere to put it where it won't fall off into obscurity, post it here, that way we don't have to bump or post in 4 different threads everyday to talk about them.
I will be starting a list of everyone's different weapon ideas here, and will make a link to them in this thread so they can be found for reference (It makes it easier for Notch and the others to look through them and find the ones they like).
General Ideas to Keep in Mind:
Quote from muncher21 »
While i may have seemed to like some of these ideas, I one have one argument that all of these are subject too (except the javelin that one was good).
Lets say hypothetically I suggested a food item called rye. you would find seeds by hoeing the dirt for them plant them then wait for them to grow, craft four together and get rye bread. It would heal 3 hearts. I would get internet slapped and people would say "This is just bread that heals .5 more hearts.". And they would be correct.
For multiple food items to work, they should all be completely different. If two were obtained in similar ways, the two items should each fill a necessary niche in the game. For example if corn was grown like wheat, there should be multiple crafting recipes that use corn that make wheat necessary instead of wheat.
SO now your saying, "lol bro this isn't the farmcraft topic!". Well all of these rules should apply to weapons.
Each weapon should be unique and fill a specific niche in combat. Most of these are just swords that do a little more damage or slash a bit faster. My challenge to you is make up a weapon idea that would feel and play COMPLETELY different then a sword or bow and arrow. And small tweaks in stats do not make it feel or play differently.
For those who wouldn't or couldn't read this wall of text here's my main point.
If a weapon is just a sword or bow and arrow with small stat tweaks, it has no right to be in the game. If a weapon has different balanced features that make it feel and play differently then a sword or bow and arrow it has a right to be in the game.
so that's it /rant.
* While it's not a requirement, you should remember to make an innovative and useful item that will catch some eyes and add a new element to the game that doesn't already exist.
* Refrain from making overpowered, legendary/cosmic/godlike/master/angelic/demonic/mythic weapons. Reserve those ideas for the Mapping and Modding section or Texture Packs.
* Try to make your post clean and coherent. Let weapons have their own paragraph, and make sure your sentences are fluent. There's no counting how many times good ideas were ignored because the sentences were badly written.
WEAPONS LIST If there is a weapon idea on here that you like, feel free to discuss it, give your input on it or make offers on how to make it better. You can combine the ideas of two of the same item suggestions into one as well, taking the good from both.

Charge forward toward the enemy (max 3 meters) with a punch. If it connects, will knock the enemy back. Will cause the player to stop for 1 second. Ground must be level or player hurts himself for running into a wall. Right-clicking will cause an uppercut that does double damage, but can only be used if the enemy is under a meter away; very risky...
... umm... more to come.

Might as well post the whole thing.
Spear-
Has a two block longer reach then sword
When hitting with the tip of the spear Does .5 less damage then the sword. No knock back
When hitting with the middle, or haft of the spear it does as much damage as a block of dirt would, with knockback.
Right click to throw

Battle axe-
When you hit with the battle axe normally, it does 1 less damage then the sword of the same material.
When jumping then attacking the battle axe would do 1 more damage then the sword of the same material.
Both would have knockback.

Muncher is right, listen to him, he can cure the blind and make paraplegics walk.
-2 Damage
-Range of an egg
-snags mob on impact
-consumed on impact with a hostile mob (unless it results in a kill)
Thrown like a snowball or an egg, if it hits a mob it snares it and renders it unable to use a physical attack and unable to move. Would not effect players in SMP, Ghasts or anything similar (Mobs that do not require legs to move). Skeletons could still fire their bow while snagged, and Creepers could still detonate. Snagged mobs would be put into the lying-down position like they are dead, and flash red for a few seconds until they break free. If it kills a mob on hit, then it is not consumed, but otherwise it is.
Liquid Spewer:
= Bucket
= Redstone
[] []
[] []
-Does 4 or 0 damage (depending on ammo)
-Range is 4 blocks
-Liquid is placed on impact point
-2 shots per liquid block
-1 use per shot
-200 uses before it breaks
It's a Flamethrower/Garden Hose/Fertilizer Sprayer. It fires out 2 short bursts of whatever kind of liquid you have loaded into it (or put in the bucket) with a varying effect based on which liquid it is. Each kind of liquid loaded into it gets 2 shots fired.
Lava: 4 Damage in impact, target is set on fire. Spawns a lava spring on impact point. This spring cannot be picked up in a bucket or reloaded into the sprayer, but it can be turned into Obsidian. Water: 0 damage, but places a water spring on impact point, and pushes mobs back dramatically if they are hit. Milk: 0 damage, and acts similar to Bone Meal. Can be used to fertilize crops or grow trees. Doesn't place a spring, obviously.

As expected, is string. If Iron Links were to be added(legit chainmail?) I'd like those to be used instead of string. HOLD left-click to swing. Will not damage enemies 2 or blocks away, little is they're 3 blocks away, most 4 blocks away, least damage 5 blocks. It takes a second to swing, but has decent damage and heavy knockback. Add Flint for a morning star (spiked mace).
The Battle Axe recipie should be like this:
[] []
The original recipie could be used for a Warhammer:
[] []
2 block range, Iron or higher has a chance of the block it hits being destroyed if it's Dirt or weaker. Heavy damage with no knockback.
Have you seen the 2by2 Crafting Extended topic? Has a Boomerang, Dagger, and Sling.

Well those ideas are already in it's own megathread. Adding them to two would be weird, but I guess I could do that.
+1 for spears. Although in realistic terms it should do much more damage than a sword, Muncher's configuration of traits for the spear makes game sense. My ideal would give it a lot of damage and reduced knockback (just enough to keep a spider from outrunning you), but a slow rate of attack, and about a block of extra reach over the sword with a comparably-sized minimum range. If a system of weaknesses and resistances is ever implemented, I'd promote reduced damage against undead mobs, for obvious reasons.
But anyway, I came here to suggest the staff as a replacement for the wooden sword. Change the recipe to three planks, then give it a new skin and name. Makes more sense, much cooler too.

I like the idea of a staff. since if you have 3 wood (planks, but I tend to call Logs, Logs instead of wood) it is not enough to make a sword (since breaking two of the planks into sticks means you don't have enough materials for a sword now).
Well some mods can soon transition into canonical game additions too. I would love to see Boomerangs and Leaf Grafts added in. My garden looks so weird from below (due to the fact that I have to build it above trees to get leaf hedges).
Nunchaku are actually large wooden or metal batons attached to eachother using rope or chain. The intended use (as far as my experience) is to cause as much physical pain in the least amount of time as possible to the idiot using it (seriously, OW).
