Fish Tanks have already been suggested, as well as different methods of catching them.
After using the search bar I couldn't find any ideas like this so, here we go.
Although the fishing rod is primarily used to snag quick food in an emergency when you have no bread/mushroom soup on hand, and can't find pigs, I think it could be utilized in a way that makes those sandy beaches and floating around in a boat more enjoyable.
I am thinking of Trophy fish. They don't have to be special, or give you more hearts when consumed, but when the bobber starts bobbing and you pull in your fish there could be a chance that it would be a Marlin or Sailfish (and perhaps even Tuna) when in deeper waters or ocean-like bodies of water, and catch Trout and Bass from more shallower inland pools of water in Swampy Biomes, and in Underground lakes, you could catch Lanternfish, Eels and even Anglerfish.
Images Thus Far: The Marlin: found in ocean-based bodies of water composed of 3000+ Water blocks. In-game catch preview
With these fish, you can choose to craft them with a wood plaque (which is basically the Wooden Slab or a Block of wood) and create a painting-like decoration to decorate your home with. Some will be bigger than others, because a Marlin is larger than a Bass, right? So the larger fish can be 1x2 plaques while the smaller fish can be 1x1 blocks.
While I play around with Java code and Photoshop I was planning on doodling some images for them, and perhaps add them to the Mp&Md subfora when finished, but I thought it was a neat idea I should suggest here.
I thought about sharks, but I would prefer that those be Mobs, and not something you can pull out of the water with a fishing line. Maybe you could have a chance of snagging a Sponge from fishing (if they get implemented into the game, so you don't have sponge deep underwater, displacing water and having a bunch of skeletons and creepers running around in the deep sea), along with some other dye ideas I thought of, but maybe I should reserve those thoughts for another thread...
* Edit: I was also thinking of Giant Clownfish. Because, knowing Minecraft, giant things aren't hard to come by...
