sorry if this has been posted before but i searched and only found references to mods.
how about (native to the game with out a mod) if we could select a structure and save it to a file. then you or someone else could import that file into another world as a set of transparent blue blocks. each block would be a variant of air blocks so they're not realy there so they don't block movement ect.
each block would have a way (texture of target block, icon inside like spawners do, ect) to let the player know what type of block to place there.
it wouldn't be a "import and it's built" thing. you'd still have to build the structure yourself.
i think it would spark alot of trading of ideas for the game.
Eeeeeeng.
This would require a somewhat complicated interface, and while there aren't many ways to do things like this, I would heartily prefer a third-party program that displays blueprints outside of the game. It seems that in-game, it would get too complicated and fiddly, unless you can show us how it would work?
well to start how about a block that the BP creater would place that marks the center or keystone of the BP.
then a key that would when pressed "tag" a block as part of the BP.
then a menu option to "save as", "clear" ect. the current BP set of blocks.
then on the BP users end a menu option to load a BP. this would spawn a keystone block in his/her inv that when placed would set up the view of the BP block types and positions as i described in my OP.
the final user would just have to adjust for terrain and customize the build.
i don't know how code heavy it would be but the interface dosen't have to be overly complex.
i can agree that it would take time to "record" by hand a large project but anyone with the patience to make something big should have the time to record it too.
