This is just an idea but i would like some input on it:
(Before you say stuff like "It doesen't fit the theme of minecraft LOL", look at the other mods people are making. Seriously, they did not have Plasma, Biplanes, or Plastics back in the Middle Ages. (Im not dissing PlasmaCrafts, Planes, or PlasticCrafts, i like them)
When if we can create something like a computer that can be used to store and share information, activate circuitry, and communicate with people who are very far away. Use it to record information like Shockah's Functional Books, it can write text messages and send them through to another computer (also you can attach items to it which the recipent can recieve, useful in multiplayer.) And you can save messages/print them off.
Another good idea is the connection of a chest for a remote or shared inventory drop box.
Not only that, we can use that to send signals to "Modems" connected to Redstone circuits/Doors, instructing to trigger them.
The computers themselves will use difficult/rare resources. Heres how i picture we craft them
= Redstone = Repeaters
First off, we need to make Microcontrollers so that the devices will have a practical way of functioning, and i picture making them like this:
= Microcontroller
Next, in order for us to view/use our computer, we need to make a screen. Or more realistically, a touchscreen :wink.gif::
= Touchscreen
Now that we have a Microontroller and a Touchscreen, we need the build the actual computer:
= Computer
So now that we have a basic computer which can type stuff down/save stuff, we need to be able to connect it to a network of other computers. We can use a Modem (Which you can name an ident for you base), to enable an identity and connection gateway:
= Modem (Just pretend)
In order for have a way to manage your network, you need to create servers (which you can hide underground in secret rooms if you like):
= Neighbourhood Server
Now that we have a few recipes, here is a (very) basic diagram of how the network shall work:
So... we need internet to get minecraft, and in minecraft, we can create the internet? and have more minecraft? even more pixelated? harder to see? Odd.
Refering to those mods like plasma rifles, they are mods for a reason, and they are not likely to get into the vanilla. Mods = you dont want it, you do not need to get the mod.
And... who would we be comunicating with? SMP servers you can talk to someone from across the map, and in SSP, theres no one to talk to.

Minecraft IM is one of the side concept. In-game document creation, circuitry control, and distant Item sending is the main idea.
and i was seeing this as a mod rather then a feature in a future version of Minecraft.
Also, another concept is a device which can record note block chords/songs.

If I forget something I usually keep my items in storage minecarts, so I can hit a switch and have that come to my base. It doesnt work all the time, but I'm working on that.

To connect servers you can use redstone dust or even something else... (Cables?)
So theres my short concept for a minecraft networking system. Please give your input and add some suggestions.
ALSO, if someone does pick up my idea, please remind them to credit me (ireece1) for original concept. Thanks.
