So screwing up when laying a lot of glass is annoying because you lose your glass when you break it! It'd be nice if glass would break into "Glass Shards" and you could cook ## of them in a furnace and get a least some of your glass back.
Or you could be more careful with your glass and stop moaning...
It's a suggestion forum... deal with it. It's for suggesting improvements/changes to the game. Placing ~5000 pieces of glass is bound to create mistakes.
But seriously, its an okay idea, but I think it would make more sence if four or possibly 9 glass shards made a glass block (and cut your hands up)
Ya the number is up for debate; it could be anything that makes sense.
I don't see the point of this. Sand and planks/coal are very easy to get. Unless you built a huge glass wall in the wrong place you would never have enough shards to do anything.
I had the same idea a few days ago. After realizing that I ran out of sand and glass from the area I was at and had to break a few pieces of glass that I placed in the wrong area, I began wondering why glass didn't break into at least some shards cause in real life, glass does break into pieces instead of nothing at all. Maybe 3 shards at most from breaking the glass, then having to smelt 9 shards of glass in a furnace to make 1 block of glass. I think that'd be pretty cool to do. I mean almost everything else breaks down into something and most of the time can be remade into what it once was, so why not glass too?

You misplace a glass block. You destroy it. Get three shards...Then have to destroy two more just to replace the one. Then six more to replace those two. And so on and so forth...
I like the Glass's "leave nothing behind/easily breakable" properties. Makes great scaffolding that doesn't cast shadows, breaks nearly instantly, and is easy to make. It also doesn't scatter the ground with tons of items.

Could maybe be a tad less fragile...You know how hard it is finding holes in a glass mansion?

Not necessarily. You make more glass with smelted sand, fix the misplaced glass into the right place, and save the shards from the broken glass for later. It'd be no worse than sticking gravel in your chest and then getting it out later after you've made shovels to try and get flint. For me, extra stuff isn't much of a big deal since I generally make myself a huge storage area inside my house. n_n

This topic came back? Meh, the problems with it is that Glass is extremely easy to make, and it's one of the few blocks that doesn't leave a trail of debris behind when broken, which is good for some things. Perhaps glass shards can be left when broken with a tool and then crafted into glass again, but punching it out with your hands or a block will make sure that it doesn't leave shards everywhere.

No. To the OP, 9 shards = one block. I'd support this.

Yea, sounds good to me. Or since real glass breaks randomly in real life, maybe 1-3 drops, kind of like sheep and their wool.
It doesn't...

Thank you for your very helpful response. Let me be more literal for you.
I mean when it breaks, the shards break into random shapes and sizes...

I have wanted this to be implemented since I first broke glass and found out when it's gone... it's gone.
APPROVE!
