I think that alot of recipes can be changed now that newer things are part of this game. Here are some examples:
1. Stone tools
I always found stone tools to way to easy to get and ppl won't even use the wooden tools because of this. The tools recipe was invented before smelting cobblestone into flat stone was possible. It makes a more sense to craft a weapon out of solid stone than to make it out if crumbled rocks. Also, this will let players use wooden tools a bit longer, when you need a furnance to make stone weapons. Maybe make so that only coal and lava will be able to smelt metals? That way, you might have to get coal in order to create iron tools.
2. Food
Changing the bread recipe into a dough recipe and then let the furnance do the baking makes a lot more sense. This should also apply to the cake.
3. Steps
Flatstone should be used to create half step blocks. It would also make more sense if you got double the half steps of the blocks you use, because right now you just cut a block in half and throw away the rest. Also now that we have different half steps, then different pressure plates of the same blocks would do wonders.
I think I can agree with the first two suggestions, as those never did make sense to me in game. I mean it never seemed possible that crumbled rocks made into pick-axes could mine ores and such, nor making bread out of wheat without first being cooked in a oven/furnace. I really don't do much with the other various half blocks, mainly I just use the wooden half blocks or stairs to make a path up/down wherever I'm building. But good ideas with making the other materials into pressure plates too. Would add more variety to the game. And I like variety. lol

Yeah, this here is some good ****.
STONE for stone picks, not cobblestone picks. I like that idea, you have unlimited amounts of it, you just gotta pay the price of smelting it.

Point 1
It also makes no sense that bones can make trees grow in 1 second, that stuff can float, and that you can carry a stack of stone in one slot but only 1 porkchop.
I disagree with point 1.
Point 2
I guess...
Point 3
Are you really so low on cobble/wood/coal/sand that you need half blocks to make double? They're so abundant it's not even funny.

I fail to see how making stone tools harder to make will increase the demand for wooden tools. The only thing this does is depreciates stone tools.

I guess, not a significant hindrance for me either way.

This works the same for stairs. You get 4 stairs for 6 input blocks, when you destroy a stair it turns into an input block.
Say you have 3 metric cubic meter of loose medium sized stones. WHAT are the odds of NOT finding a stone piece that looks like a pickaxe head?
After much time trying to decipher what you have just said, I have failed and hope cryptologists at MIT can translate that into something resembling English.

I'm, sorry, but that is perfect English, except the word "pickaxe", which I have seen many variations of before. So you're either stupid, mean or both (most likely) and should GTFO and please your own mother in a sexual way.
EDIT: Also, meters*

I'm sorry, but I much prefer yours.
You are also correct; that is perfect English. Blemishes such as grievous spelling errors (which are still in existence), major grammatical fallacies including comma splice errors, sentence fragments, run-on sentences, confusing redundancies, non-standard sentence structure, and lack of flow do not count as your perfect English is perfect. But, what do I know, after all _I_ am the stupid one, right?!
Also, stop being such a whiny little douche and start realizing that I was picking on you in good fun; apparently you have to play the "yo momma card" instead of a clever retort.
Also, you should realize by now that you could have rephrased your statement so that anyone but you could have understood it; instead of stomping your feet like a spoiled school-girl. Because of your childish attitude and unnecessary insults, you are having some random stranger on the Internet call you out for being an incompetent mouth-breathing moron.

OK, how about this: why don't YOU tell me your opinion on this subject, hasty, and in YOUR second language without any spelling errors whatsoever?

If you are to pick on someone "in good fun", heres an idea: don't do it at all, or so only to people you know.

You're not grown up until you can admit your childishness. But by all meant, do tell: How could it be rephrased? Knowledge's for sharing.
I do believe this thread has become derailed; if not, it shall be in the next five posts.
On-Topic:
1. I think the recipe is fine as-is. Making somebody smelt the stone does not add anything to gameplay; it only makes jumping from the wood to stone all the more tedious. Wood isn't supposed to be something you use for a long time.
Also, by the reasoning of "cobblestone shouldn't make tools because it's loose," you probably wouldn't have the furnace, either.
2. Also a bit tedious, but not as egregiously so.
3. I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. If "flatstone" is smoothstone, than yes, I believe you can already do that.
Double the produce seems reasonable, but not necessary.
I guess pressure plates of different materials is viable, if only so switches blend with their environment a bit more, even if they stick out like a sore thumb anyway. You probably shouldn't expect them to act any differently from the switches we have now.

Yes, yes I am. A pessimist is always either right, or pleasantly surprised.

OK, how about this: why don't YOU tell me your opinion on this subject, hasty, and in YOUR second language without any spelling errors whatsoever?
I have already given my opinion on the subject, I tend to do so in a different color in a snipped quote so there is no loss of communication. Also, I do not claim to have "perfect" English, as I understand that such a statement requires me to COVER MY ASS. I have plenty of grammatical issues and occasional spelling errors in my writing; far less than most on this forum, I can assure you; but I never have, and never will, claim that my knowledge on an ever-adapting and ever-changing language is complete and perfect. The biggest problem, and I expected you wouldn't pick this up; is that you called someone else an idiot while appearing illiterate; you have any idea how ironic that looks? I have a spell-checker though, one built into my browser; and one (from what I hear) on this forum. I use them. I also have the common sense to go back and edit my posts for flow, quality, spelling and grammatical errors, lulz, and any other necessary reason and expect others to have the common sense to do the same.
I pick on people in good fun because I try to create an enjoyable atmosphere where these same people would prod me in a likewise manner when I make some kind of faux pas. I am not perfect, if I make a mistake (which I will), call me out on it. I will be a man and suck it up. I can take my blows as well as give 'em.
And finally, I still cannot make heads or tails of what you are trying to say. I can make a wide shot of what your saying which is "How likely are you to find something resembling the head of a pick amidst rubble?" to which I reply, "the same likelihood of seeing a head of a pick when slamming 3 large solid slabs of stone together."
If I make a post that you can not understand (this too will happen), then reply in a similar vicious manner about the lack of communication in my post and I will either restate or edit my post so that you may understand it.
To return on topic:
I can understand and completely see the sentiment for wooden tools being more useful, but I do not believe the proposed changing of their recipe to using solid stone will increase the necessity of wooden tools. So I do not agree here.
Changing the recipe needs of food seems more rational, but at the same time, looks to clog the inventory with another arbitrary item with only one possible use. This one, I am quite mixed.
For some reason I don't like the idea of getting double; and unfortunately I can't place why. I would like to see

But receiving 6 doesn't seem to flow; perhaps it's because I have the laws of conservation of energy and matter too firmly implanted in my brain.
