(almost typed "Feces and vertical half blocks" as the subject- lol)
Now that that's out of the way. Hi. <awkward moment>
So anyway, I'm not sure if this really bothers other players or not, but fences take up an entire block, (well, block and a half if you count the top) and while it may LOOK like your character can get closer to the edge of the fence, there is an impenetrable area of... nothing at all! in that your character shall not tred. So sayeth Notch!
This is particularly aggravating for making balconies. The whole point of using a fence was to not obstruct the overlooking view- or at least be as minimalistic in view obstruction as possible, and since they can't be placed over glass they have to be placed on a non-opaque block, and just the angling from having to stay an entire block away from the edge of your balcony is quite visually limiting.
I propose that implement a vertical half-block, which would be the fence, or perhaps just a "you can't cross this X.5 / Z.5 coord function... Damn, now that I'm thinking about it I might write up a mod for that myself... it sounds pretty easy to do. Though players walking atop fences might be a problem... Perhaps removing that and just allowing players to fall through the fence when approaching it from above is the best way to go with that... I'm thinking with text now, as I am rather tired... What are you doing still reading this anyway? Shouldn't you be writing a clever comment by now? Or perhaps you should go browse a more interesting thread...
This sentence is just a random distraction. Precious seconds of your life were just stolen from you. By me. >:smile.gif:
Perhaps if the space the fence takes up were reduced in the same way as a door, and they were moved to align with blocks in the same way? That way they would line up, and all that.

It's the only non-opaque block...
