i wonder if notch would ever implement some soft of color wheel to change the colors of blocks in his creative mode for the beta, it would be most helpful when making sprites certain tones and colors, i made a sprite on the classic server a while back, and even though i managed, the character did not look as appealing as the original colors do.
Yeah, Seeing how its "Creative" mode you should be able to use your mind to make awesome things. Adding a ability to change the color of pretty much any item would make the possibility endless
you both are very insightful, thanks for your support, although i dont fully agree. making the game fully customizable would be cool, but then it wouldn't be minecraft. you see, the game is what mojang creates it, and while user creation is great, IMO i like what the team is doing. i was thinking of more along the lines of notch creating a "blank block" if you will, and when you click it, a pop-up screen appears with a color wheel, enabling you to choose as you please. that would save some work for notch instead of making everything customizable, and make me one very happy customer for his sometime-down-the-road release of creative mode.

What would the texturing of the new block be? The reason I dont like to use colored wool to make buildings, besides its weak structural ability, is the fact that you can still tell that it is wool. Having the ability to color stone or cobblestone for instance would allow you to create a specific color mixed with a specific durability and a specfic texture
When talking creative, durability doesn't matter. It would be interesting to see the uses that a plain-colour block could be put to. Definatley in favour, even though Notch is really phasing out Creative.
I swear to god that wasn't meant to be interpreted that way, but my mind went their anyway.
In the off chance you're serious, there is no durability in creative.

well i was kind of going with the wool texture because at a distance when you look at people's art, you dont care about the material, you care about color overall. creative mode for beta is hopefully like it is in classic multiplayer, simple to use, and easy for anyone to get addicted into making giant works of art.
[off topic: has anyone been successful in joining a minecraft server in classic? notch said it was back up, but i cant seem to access one.]

could you demonstrate a scenario as to why durability matters please?
