This thread has a use for slimeballs and a a few changes to slimes:
Slime changes: They now spawn only in lava, and hop out at you from inside a lava lake. They are lavaproof and do not drown. This is to make them much more than just another mob you have to fight and present an added danger to caves.
Slimeballs uses:
Coating objects with slime to make them lavaproof. For instance, boats. Craft a boat with a slimeball and it becomes lava-proof. Congratualtions, exploring the nether is so much easier. You could also use it on items, so they don't incinerate while in the lava, and armor, to go swimming in lava. The armor will deteriorate while in the lava, but very slowly, depending on the armor. Once its gone you are doomed.
Right click to place it on a block. This can be removed by hitting the block once, and will give you the slimeball back. A slime-ball coated block will bounce back ghast fireballs and skeleton arrows, every time back toward the ghast or skelly.EDIT: A slime-coated block is also fireproof, if it was flammable.

I'm sorry I need to say this.
"Sir, why is your pool green?"
"It's not green. That's just my pet slime taking a bath."
Slimeball:
Coating stuff to make them fire proof eh? I can see this being more viable on armor than anything else (boats, maybe, but for now I'll stick with armor). At least now I can swim under lava and see what it's like.

I'm probably leaving mcf. Lost interest in staying on this forum, not that anyone really would care.
Nice idea you got there, but, the idea of the slime coating on a block would either: 1. Require a block modifier (in the manner of signs/ladders, and that would take up space) 2. Require Variant blocks, if you don't want it to take up room, like how Redwood leaves are a variant of regular leaves, but this would require so many variant blocks, it would be complete madness... or 3. Require some sort of other special coding that I don't know about.
Also, instead of slime-coated armor, what about Slime armor? I saw this idea on the forums a while ago, and I'm actually trying to code it. Right now, it's supposed to be just armor, but I have plans for armor regen for it. I'm no good with java, though...

After all, when you mix these three, you get a cannon builder.
