What if you make a staff using Moldavite ore! With this staff, you can control mobs to be your minions. Pigs will turn into pigmen and walk around :biggrin.gif:
And how many pieces of ore would be needed to craft this staff? Are pigs the only mobs this would control? If hostile mobs can be controlled, what challenge are they anymore?
Maybe it can make wool glow?
We already have glowstone. Why should we use some radioactive material to make thing glow when we already have that?
Or, maybe make a space portal by using the same format as a nether portal. The space portal would take you to an Alien world with new creatures. To create the portal, you need to craft moldavite blocks.
Makes no sense. No description of this alien world except that it would contain "new" things, as well as no description of why a new world should be required rather than simply adding new things to the current one.
Maybe when a meteorite strikes land there is a small amount of radiation and if you stay in the area for too long, then you will start losing hearts!
So when my house gets hit by this unstoppable meteorite, which you describe below as something inevitable rather than a random event, my house will not only be heavily damaged...but will also be made unlivable due to radiation? Lame.
I don't think some people get this. Meteorites can strike your house. There is nothing from stopping it. And it can even destroy obsidian, so don't try to make a shield out of it.
Why bother claiming that nothing can stop these asteroid impacts, even the most durable block in the game, when down below you discuss ways of stopping them? Seems like there is no reason for it to destroy obsidian other than you're desire to see it destroy people's homes.
Maybe moldavite blocks could cause a meteorite to explode 15 blocks above it. Maybe this could cause stones to fly and break glass?
What would be the point of making one piece of a meteorite cause another to explode and destroy things, as opposed to it just hitting the ground and destroying things anyway?
The meteorite could strike your world every 10-12 days. There is a 1 in 25 times of it hitting your house.
Why is there a built in chance of it hitting your house (1 out of 25 chance) as opposed to a random system where it could just hit anywhere? What do you have against people being able to have a permanent base that isn't full of radioactive zones?
You can craft a moldavite watch and compass that shows you when and where an asteroid will impact.
So every 2 hours of play time I can be automatically guided to a block that allows me to make a staff and control mobs? Why would it need to be so easy?
You can craft a moldavite magnet that catches a meteor before it falls to the ground. It may be used 5 times before it will explode and act as 1/2 of a TNT block.
Again, why would you make the effort of explaining that even obsidian cannot protect your base from these meteorites if you are going to turn around and make it extremely easy to stop them? What reason, other than forcing a use for your new material, do you have that actually makes this necessary?
I can't find anything in here that actually tells me why I should want something like this other than "meteors are cool!"
A mob controlling staff is unbalanced and you gave no reason why a piece of an asteroid should be needed for this rather than some other material, making wool glow is just a throwaway idea that would be better handled with current materials, a portal to "an alien world" is not even a complete thought, and everything else just describes how these asteroids would suck because they can destroy your stuff unless you use pieces of another asteroid to stop it - which is redundant, as there is no need for something that destroys your house/property when it's only real use is to prevent itself from destroying your house/property.
Theres nothing really special about Moldavite, I just searched it.
also noooo to asteroids. Imagine creating a giant golden tower complete with lava flow mob farmers and just generally an awesome and decorative tower of gold blocks, and your like awesome...and then an asteroid destroys completely all of it in less than a minute. I wouldn't bring a new ore in the game unless it has a special properity which is interesting and needed, or is the bridge between Iron and Diamond, this is neither.

Creeper Jockeys, Because Screw Your Sense of Safety
Well, i found the concept of mob repellent intriguing, but maybe a less powerful kind, like it only repels passive mobs. That way, you can create a farm and put some of the repelling ore around it, and keep those effin cows from tramplin yo wheat!

Meteorites would be awesome, no doubt about that. 1/25 chance of hitting a particular location, such as your house or even in the direction you happen to be looking? No way, that's just silly. I would be in favor of very rare meteorite strikes that hit a random location of the game world at a random time. The chances of actually witnessing one fall would be quite slim but you could also slightly increase your chances of a sighting by being situated at high altitude location with a good view, and especially at night since of course falling meteoroids would briefly light up the sky in a spectacular display. More than likely if one does fall in your general vicinity, you might only notice loud notice and brief shaking of the ground. Being woken up by such an event would definitely be an interesting addition to the game.
As for the impact, the falling rock would have a slight angle and would be effected to varying degrees by different blocks, ie it would smash right through leaves and trees, be slowed down a bit dirt or sand and stopped much quicker by stone but still be able to travel a couple blocks in before stopping. Once the object has depleted it's velocity, it creates a small explosion. Not bigger than a creeper's explosion, since the meteorites ability to tunnel alone makes it quite a bit more damaging. The impact scar would be quite noticeable but not utterly devastating, even if it does happen to smash into your house.
And of course, the impact crater should also contain 2-3 blocks of some extremely rare material that does something novel and interesting. Yeah, I haven't given this part much thought. I do however think that you should have to find at least more than one meteorite before you can get any use out of the rare material. Gives people a very strong incentive to explore which I think is good.
One cool use could be applying it to tools and armor to upgrade the items in some way or add special abilities. Using the moldavite on an item uses up the moldavite and the upgrade lasts the lifetime of the item. For example, a sword that can kill anything in one hit, boots that add increased resistance to fall damage, leggings that decrease the damage done by falling into lava... Moldavite could also be a way of reaching the Aether
Full support! But if it did fall it would have to be much more rare, such as every 75-100 minecraft days? When it would happen mabye the moon would have a green shade to it? Also, I feel obsideon should be able to survive it.
MAKE THIS A MOD, this is a pretty cool idea, but how exactly would the magnets work? would it come at you can hit you or just land without breaking blocks or what? I support this mod idea, now find a modder for it.
talking about minecraft where there arent any meteors because nocte did not want your house being owned! im
sorry i dont want my house to get owned by a meteor when i mining!
You don't even have a set use for it, yet you want to make a mod? I enjoy the idea of meteorites. This idea is not fleshed out, however. You should focus less on ideas related to the falling of the meteor itself, but of uses that it has whence found and mined. Controlling animals is a bad idea. Going to space is a bad idea. We already have the Nether, perhaps the Aether. Unless you completely flesh out the idea of space or something else, it is still a bad idea. Space isn't appealing because a space suit is very high-tech and just doesn't give the feel of Minecraft.
I will add it as an idea!

Using a Mob Spawner and a Stick to Master the Animal Kingdom
P.S. BTW I support +1

It isn't in meteorites, it forms when a meteorite slams into earth and melts sand past molten level.
How do we know it's a rip off of your thread if you don't leave a link or a date of post? I think you just want attention.
