More Weapons Note: I know that there are other threads about new weapons, but I have different ideas than them.
The idea is that there could be a new extended crafting bench, which is pretty much just made with crafting benches being put together like chests, going from 3x3 to 3x6 to 3x6+3x3, ending at a 6x6 bench, giving you a 6x6 crafting space, that would allow you to make other larger things, but that is for a different subject.

You could make things such as spears, crossbows, and long swords with it. I don't know how hard to code this would be,but there could be reach variations, with the sword being the medium reach, the crossbow having the most, and a knife having the smallest.
There could also be a crafting book that told you how to make swords, pickaxes, axes, spears, knives, and bows. Not giving too much access to recipes, though. It could be 4 books combined, I guess.

The spear could be a weapon with an extended reach and an increase in damage, possibly a slower hit speed than other things, also a low durability compared to a sword.. It could be crafted with 4 sticks and some kind of spearhead.

The longbow could shoot a bit slower than a regular bow, but faster than a crossbow. I also find it hard to get those supplies, cause I suck at fighting. It is crafted like this:
Knives
Knives could be simple weapons make-able with the 2x2 crafting area, it does low damage, and has low reach.

Sorry, I accidentally submitted when previewing. Now it is done.
im all for a larger crafting table, it opens up soooooo many more possibilities.
However i think that the larger crafting tables should work like chests in that if you place 1 next to another they give you twice the space. and another they then give you an extra 9 spaces to the already increased table, then another one and it gives you a 6x6 instead of a 3x3. that way the old crafting table is not obsolete, it is in fact needed to make the new one.
Posted this in a thread now long dead its not even on the first page. I like the ideas above, though my view would be:
Battle Axe:
[]
[]
[] []
Now, What makes its special?
1) It doubles as a Normal Axe, Meaning it Helps in Wood Chopping as Well as Battle. The Damage Rating would be about Half a heart~heart More than a Sword depending on the Metal, And would swing a little slower, But would also pose a larger Knock-back Effect.
2) It would possess Slightly less speed in Chopping wood.
3) Has More Durability than a Sword by a Small Amount.
4) Should make a further note.. It swings <Much> Slower than a Sword when in Combat. That combined with the Larger Knock-back means this weapons inflicts much less damage over time, But in a safer respect, as the Enemy would be kept at Distance in most cases, Minimizing risk to yourself.
Its Distinct uniqueness would be Doubleing as a logging item, as well as a large Knock-back effect as opposed to the sword. Its Slighty Stronger, and Its knock-back is potent enough to possible minimize or negate damage from say, Creepers who steer too close by pushing them 5-6 Squares back after a hit.
Spear
[] []
[] []
[] []
What makes it Special?
1) It has a 2 Block Reach bonus over a Sword. It swings slower than a sword and deals 1-2 Heart Less damage than a sword. Is less durable due to its length and breaks easier than Swords.
2) Doubles as a Throwing Object. Right click to Toss at enemy. Can retrieve item by walking to it and right-clicking. Throwing doubles the "Fatigue" of the weapon as opposed to a normal swing, but also deals double the damage if it connects. Can go through multiple enemies.
3) Low Durability. More so when thrown.
So, Its uniqueness in that light comes from the ability to double as a ranged weapon, as well as being able to strike enemies from safe distances. Its flaw is its much less durable than swords.
Shields
[]
[] []
What makes it Special?
1) Reduces Damage taken by 1/4ths to 3/4ths depending on Type, Sometimes negates damage completely. Think of it as "Switching to this when you know you'll take heavy Damage". It would be uses for the "Boss fight" Ideas posed in another Thread. It would add another Strategic point to aforementioned fights. Or perhaps when a Creeper manages to sneak up on you and its just too late to run?
Would be nice to see this as a Permanent Item akin to Armor. Adding its unique slot to the head/body/etc slots. In that light since it would be a permanent boost to defense i was thinking
Wooden shield: Reduces Damage half a heart.
Stone Shield: Reduces Damage 1 hear.
Iron Shield: Reduces Damage 1 1/2 hearts.
Diamond shield: Reduces Damage 2 hearts.
They would lose Durability over time like normal armor, and add a small chance to "negate" an attack?
Now, My "crafting" was designed around the basic 3x3 Crafting, Obviously if we got a bigger table could be redone...
Larger Weapon variety adds... well, Variety to the game. I love Sandbox games and i love minecraft. Adding more things to build, more object to make, More items to collect, only makes the game more fun for me, even if they serve little more purpose. Hopefully some larger Weapon variety comes, but if it doesn't i wont be too sad. Cause the game is fun as is, Just wish I could actually play multiplayer :| bought the game just last week with my brother and GF and have come to find myself disappointed that more than 80% of the time since then the servers have been crashed/down/repairing/updating.

This is a really good idea, and I like the idea of a larger craftin bench, but I think, firstly, If the measurments are going to be anything they should be square so 5x5 or 6x6.
Alos, there should be some way to prevent new players from obtaining a large craft bench from the start, as it looks rather overwhelming, even to an older player like me. It may put noobs off, and might be quite complicated. Possibly a recipy book could be crafted telling how to make basic (not all items).
Otherwise its a great idea and I'm glad that, unlike most weapons threads, you haven't suggested guns
True, I should stop being lazy and using 5x6. I will make it 6x6.

No. All your handheld melee weapons are slight variations of the Sword, all of which have cons. So why use them? It's not like it takes five diamond hits to kill something, so why use 2x the material? Also, they're all too similar, with too much effort to put in with too little fruit.
@your bows. Also no. Like stated above, they're too similar to the regular bow. For example, your long bow. What do you mean, it has a slightly larger range? The arrows travel faster? The normal arrows travel pretty fast already. Again, with your crossbow too. These are all slight variations of the original bow, with cons that pretty much obsolete the long bow and crossbow in comparison to the regular bow.

I guess I might make them a bit more different, but at least on SMP, I don't want overpowered weapons, and, they would be pretty fun to use, with the different variants, in my opinion. I wasn't thinking that well with the longbow, probably way more range than the bow.

Most weapons fall into "Slight Variations of a Theme". In Real life too.
Swords, Spears, Axes, Katars? In real life they are all Variations of a Theme, called "Slashing/Piercing Melee Weaponry" Things with Hilts/grips and sharp Ends to kill things with.
Nukes, Bombs, Cannons, Rockets? Slight Variations of a Theme called "explosives" They all make boom and kill.
Pistols? Rifles? Automatics? Muskets? Slight Variations of a Theme called "Guns", They all Shoot objects and Kill.
Bows, Crossbows, Longbows? Slight Variations of a Theme called "Projectile Weaponry", They all shoot projectiles and kill.
Theres other weaponry like Blunt Melee Weaponry, Which is mostly Hand-to-hand related, Brass-knuckles etc, but even Staves, Clubs, Even Hammers Could be considered as such.
All of the above items, Though Slight Variations of a Theme, served a purpose at one point in time or the other. Each one offering its own unique benefit, and its own unique draw-back, Thats where they seperate themselves from Swords.
So why use them? Each of his Weaponry May in fact be just a re-flavored sword, But say if each one of them got a unique benefit, and unique deficet? Swords would be more "Vanilla" of the Weapons. They're Sturdy and Reliable. a Solid choice, But that doesn't mean there is no reason to add more. Adding a Variety, Even variations of a Theme, Can add more depth to a game. While it wouldn't be the First thing I'd like to see added, If there is time and room for it I think it would be a good Addition.
Each enemy you face can attack you in a unique way. Zombies are slow and dumb, Swords are good. Spiders are Fast and Can leap at you, Difficult to hit for most, keeping them at bay is a good idea where a Spear might come in handy. Creepers Explode in your face, Knocking them away to minimize damage if they get too close is a good use for the battle axe. that's why you would use them.
(The Above Examples are taken from my Suggestions in this thread not the OP).
So either way, While not a Definite top-10 I wanna see, the idea of expanding on existing Minecraft ideas is always something i like to see. Building is fun, Creating is fun, Minning is fun in this game... One of the biggest changes i want to see is a Powered Rail (for minecart) and A wider variety of Ores. maybe i just like Variety, And its not for everyone i can understand. Even if no Weapons or Ores are added to Minecraft I'll still play. so Whatever, Yes?
The Game is fun now, Adding to it Can only improve my satisfaction. The Top 1 Fix I'd like to see if a Stable Server :3
slightly stronger in dmg than the greatsword and slightly slower
and the halbred
[]
[]
[] []
[] []
[] []
deals as much dmg as the greatsword has the reach of a spear takes 1.75 times longer to swing than them and cannot be used with a sheild
I like the idea of the mace and the halberd, thinking about it, but I find they will pretty much be the same thing as the battle axe and spear and my mind.
Creepers Explode in your face, Knocking them away to minimize damage if they get too close is a good use for the battle axe
Karbuncle gave me an idea for something that can knock your enemy back, possible for some sort of knock-someone-off-the-platform-without-spleefing thing. I don't think I came up with that good of weapons, though, now that I look at it, but I still like the concept of a weapon specially for knocking an enemy back.
We need no more weapons. In all honesty, the sword and the bow are all that we will ever need. The sword kills up close. The bow shoots from afar. I am OK with ideas like the handcannon, since they are interesting and feasible, but really we need nothing else.
I know not everyone likes swords, but there is no need to add so many "Sword, but special/different" variants of the melee weapons unless they do have uses that add more to the game other than "instead of killing mobs with a sword you can kill them with a spear or axe". You could add throwing weapons, chain weapons, maybe even technical dual weapons, but try to stay away from ones that sum up to "Shiny thing on a stick, you swing it to hit the enemies" kind.
Each weapon should be unique and fill a specific niche in combat. Most of these are just swords that do a little more damage or slash a bit faster. My challenge to you is make up a weapon idea that would feel and play COMPLETELY different then a sword or bow and arrow. And small tweaks in stats do not make it feel or play differently.
1) Pretty much your giving out a bunch of sword reskins with stat tweaks (and in some cases overhauls)
2) Use the search bar for some of these ideas

I will be using them soon
I'm Starting to be known as a Balancer, A.K.A. I'm starting to become pessimist
Sorry, I accidentally submitted when previewing. Now it is done.

Battle Axe:

I pretty much screwed up with the new axe.
True, I should stop being lazy and using 5x6. I will make it 6x6.
Hmm... I also like this idea, making it so it takes up more room, also. Maybe opening up real reasons for people to group up workbenches.
I like the idea of the mace and the halberd, thinking about it, but I find they will pretty much be the same thing as the battle axe and spear and my mind.
1) Pretty much your giving out a bunch of sword reskins with stat tweaks (and in some cases overhauls)
2) Use the search bar for some of these ideas
I will be using them soon
I'm Starting to be known as a Balancer, A.K.A. I'm starting to become pessimist
Hmm... I guess most of all the people who don't like these ideas want some things way more different. Thanks for the feedback, though!
