Since Books are made using Leather, it makes to me that they could be dyed a different color.
The Book, after being dyed, can be used in normal crafting and enchanting. So you can make a colored Book and Quill that will, besides changing the outward appearance of the Book, change the color of the words written in it. A red Book and Quill will have red letters in it while a blue Book and Quill would have blue letters.
Dyeing an Enchantment Book will change the color of the enchantment name and that will pass on to the whatever item you place it on. So you can have your Flame enchant on your Bow be colored red.
For Bookcases...I think it would be better if the type of wood used would change the appearance of it since a Bookcase already has multi colored books.
i'll hop on board of this, although I think the written parts of the book should be able to be changed separately from the main book color (title and name one color, inner text another, then the appearance of the book itself), just my thought though.
It's just a few extra sprite colors, but eh... Moderate support anyway.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

Purely aesthetic thing thing that may have a few uses (like encouraging the use of enchantment books)? Sure. This has my support.

Well you can, though I have never done it before, change the color of the font in your book already. So if ever want to change it back then you can.
Or maybe instead you can dye the Ink Sac and that's what decides the color of the font, making my idea only for the color of the book cover.

Feels nice. It would definitely help sorting out all my enchanted books if I could recolor he most important ones or recolor them by categories.
I would not make the text recolored, only the leather cover.
Recoloring the tex seems like a nice idea but is already possible anyway with color dodes, so I'd leave that intact.
I wouldn't recolor enchant names and item anvil-renamed names, either.
Overall, support.
I like it. Always wanted more customizing of book textures.
A Good idea!

Huh. I could dye my Mending book collection something that's easy to see. Full Support!
I support this, this, and this. And this now. Also this.
I can't tell written or enchanted books apart without hovering my mouse over them, so this sounds like it would be useful.
