What I mean by this is that, suppose you dual wield a pickaxe in your main hand and a shovel in your off hand. If you mine a stone block you'd be able to mine it properly with the pickaxe as normal, but if you mine a dirt block your shovel in your offhand would dig instead and it would still work, allowing you to break it faster.
It would be a nice simple addition to dual wielding so it feels more like dual wielding.
My opinion of the off hand is that it's meant as more of a support of a support role, like for torches or food. I'm just fine with scrolling one slot to my shovel if I need to mine dirt.

On a serious note though, left hand animations just got added to 3rd person view...
So I would just sit on it really and see what happens in the months to come.
Don't believe this will be an option though as long as you can not dual wield swords and swing both of them.
(which would be terrifically op with the nonstop sword swoop)
