Sporer would be a new mob of zombie type (how zombie itself and husk).
The sporers have a life of 20 points (10 hearts) like zombies, same speed, and would be vulnerable to sun.
Sporers normal attack causes the same damage as normal zombies or little less; in the case of play in the difficulties: "easy", "normal" and "difficult", the player would have a 10%, 25% and 50% chances of obtain the weakness effect (level 1 with a duration of 2 to 5 seconds) on each attack.
This mob, when has little life (6 hp, ie, 3 hearts), will act like a creeper, exploding in 3 seconds or less.
But instead of cause damage and destroy terrain, this "explosion" will actually generate a lingering cloud of 5x5x5 size and duration of 3 seconds.
The effect of that lingering cloud can variate 50% between weakness I (during 15 seconds), until poison I (during 5 seconds).
* Zombie meat.
* Red mushrooms.
* Classical zombie strange loot.
The model will be obviously "steven", ie, the one used for players, zombies, husks, drowned, strays and skeletons.
Sporer texture is similar to a husk, but unclothed and without hair, with a greenish-yellow and purple cake dark streaks (simulating decomposition).
Sporers would also have mushrooms like mooshrooms, but brown and not red.
I suggest adding a special touch to the texture of sporer, ie, I suggest it have "holes" in texture simulating parts eaten by fungi. This would do this mob more "horrific".
I suggest giving a low unfinished rumble sound with reverberation, something similar to the roar of the sea lion.
This new mob would be generated in wet biomes as "roofed forests" and "-swamp", having a low spawn rate (in comparison to zombies) but enough big to be a significant mob on thes biomes.
Any zombie that stays over mycellium during 1 minute, or spawn directly over this, will be transformed into an sporer.
If you are inside a mushroom island biome... do not come closer to borders of this biome at night, it would be very dangerous.

I was thinking sporer (regular) should have the poison effect, as well as the rare weakness effect. Then it doesn't need to have a varient that has only one addition/change to it (skeletons and wither skeletons have five: height, texture/color, the wither effect wither skeletons give you, wither skeletons sometimes dropping coal and wither skeleton skulls and wither skeletons not having bows). It would also save alot of code. I was also thinking of sporers being a uncommon spawn in roofed forests (this actually makes more sense than mushroom islands if you think about it, but you can keep the mushroom island thing).
Suggestion edited: removed the two variations of sporer to only one.
Changed the generation: now it generates in swamp biome. Although it also generates in mushroom islands, the very low spawn rate of that biome will avoid make these common in such (ie, sporers will be as uncommon as other hostile mobs in mushroom islands).
While a tad hard to understand, I think I get it. It sounds like it'd be a fun thing to fight, especially since those particular biomes seem appropriate for it. I like that it kind of switches tactics depending on its health.
I really like this suggestion, however the name doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Infested would work better, as the zombie would be literally "infested" with fungi. Also, I second it being primarily found in roofed forests, as those biomes are teeming with giant mushrooms amongst the thick canopy of dark oak trees.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
While I like the concept, we really don't need another zombie variant, we already have pig zombies, zombie pigman, Husks, and coming up are the drowned. I'd rather this be re-worked into either its own unique mob, or a Creeper variant
