I dunno exactly but what they're called but here's the concept..
You encounter a tall mountain and you wish to build something on the top, so you think that you should just go and get some dirt and pillar your way up there. Once you get up, you clumsily fall to the very bottom and die, losing all of you belongings.
This would not be a problem if you have the DOUBLE PICK THINGIES. These would allow you to climb up high mountains, but only on stone, so you have to choose your route carefully up the mountain so you don't encounter any dirt or gravel or anything. These also would not mine things, but they do take damage.
They would also be useful if you were falling, so you could grab on to the side of the mountain you're falling off of so you don't lose your ****.
Yeah, I think climbing is already easy enough within the game. Use ladders or create a path up one of the sides. Once you're on top you can just crouch so you don't fall off.
Alright, lemme start over.
You just spawned in a world and you spot a huge mountain that you want to build a house on, but you can't reach it. You go to the nearest tree and craft two picks and then craft them together to make the double pickaxe thingy.
It can be pretty hard and time-consuming if you don't have the right tools if you just spawn.
It's called not wanting to waste a million sticks on a ladder, plus you'd have to tear them down, which would be a pain the ass.
Wood is very easy to get, and it's renewable, so you can make as many as you want. And why would you tear them down? Your gunna wanna go back up them if you put them there in the first place.

When I say climb up I mean if you're exploring or something, so you're going to want them back for something else, most likely.
Good idea. Climbing without ladders would be far more efficient, since you would have to:
1) Build all the ladder pieces
2) Set them up
3) Tear them down when you're done
Ladders are only worth-while to put down if you plan on traveling up and down the mountain a lot. Then again, with the right pixaxe, it would just be easier to carve steps into the mountain(depending on it's height).
Only, wouldnt you call it a Grapple, and maybe the recipie could be like this:

= Hook. This would have to be a new item. I suggest that it comes from Mob Drops (Spiders). Also, they should be useless unless you create a grapple with this.
= String. Yet another mob drop.
= Stick. Not a mob drop/
Okay, so once you use the grapple, maybe you can use the Up and Down arrows to extend and 'reel-in' the string(rope). It'd go about 3 blocks down, making it useful for climbing.
Thats all I have to say to make your suggestion better :smile.gif:
I like this idea.
Smart i was just going to type the same thing than i saw this.
This is a neat idea, but I have three issues:
1. I wouldn't ever use them because I could just use sand to pillar up the mountain/and/or I would dig my way up. Both of those methods use fewer resources.
2. I would rather use my precious picks for digging, and using up two picks for something that would otherwise be easy would not be cost effective.
3. If you are falling the chances of you having the pick OUT is low, because what else do you use them for? Whenever I fall I usually have a bucket, torch, or pickaxe in my hand. I don't think I'd have enough time to switch to my double axes and catch myself.
I kinda like the idea, but these issues really prevent it from adding to the minecraft experience, and wouldn't be as fun or versatile as something like... rope, say.

You are totally thinking about this signature right now. Read a book.
I like the idea, except that I think that the double picks should also be able to climb Cobblestone, Mossy Cobblestone, Netherrack (to avoid an untimely death in the Nether) and possibly Glowstone (so getting Glowstone Dust would be easier).
Otherwise, I support. Have a
P.S. I think I'll make some pictures and a banner now...

EDIT: OK, here are the pictures:
And here's the banner:
Here's what it becomes:
EDIT 2 ( ): Here are some more piccies:
A pic of what the Stone Double Picks would look like on your character if you press "I".
A (slightly enlarged) pic of what the Stone Double Picks would look like in an inventory slot.
P.S. Sorry if it seems like I'm taking over this suggestion, it's just that I'm sharing my ideas and pictures and stuff...
