A thing I'm big on in Minecraft, is making it feel like you're having a personal, unique experience. Some more things I value are continual change and additional content. The content that I value the most is the kind that gives the game another unique feature or makes it more convenient in a balanced way.
An accessory slot is the balanced feature that can do allthose thingsif done right.
(All images are just for example purpose. I made none of them. I am not taking ownership of them.)
The GUI
The idea starts much like you would expect.
The extra slot in the GUI- that's the accessory slot. Simple.
Then next it's using already in-game features and items- including a new interaction, that creates greater efficiency.
Elytra
The first thing that comes to mind is a place to put your Elytra. Save your chest for armor, and keep your Elytra ready too. Simple, not a new Item. Yet practical.
Quiver
One of the reasons things like shield slot, quiver slot, etc didn't make it in MC was because they didn't know a good way to implement it. They don't want to clutter the GUI. So it was forgone for multi-function dual wielding. Yet the answer isn't many slots for each different thing, but a single slot for the single accessory you would allow yourself.
You can open the Quiver GUI by holding and clicking it.
3 slots. Regular 64 stack size.
The arrows at the top are 'priority arrows' and they fire first. This gives you a way to determine which special arrow you use at the time. You can manage which arrows you pull from the quiver with a hotkey. Shift+1 for the first slot, and so on. Here is a quick recipe.
An accessory slot opens up the potential for many things that are in the game, but have plenty of room for improvement.
Belt
I have thought of a lot of ways to improve Alchemy. Here is one of my best. The potions aren't stronger, but you can stack the annoying things so inventory isn't crowded and so you can use them more practically in tough combat situations. Much like the quiver you can open a GUI while you hold the item.
3 slots and a max stack of 8. (I know the image is 16 lol. I changed it later.)
Balance:
The stack size of certain potions would be different to reflect PVP potential.
Splash potions of Harming- for example would be smaller or even a single stack
Use Shift+3 to highlight the regen potions (for example.) and Use the accessory button (Maybe R) to use the highlighted potion. Here is another example recipe for those that love that kind of thing.
Finally, this simple little GUI slot can segue a whole new avenue of never seen features.
Glove
Another simple, unique concept in a balanced little package. The glove. This item allows you to place blocks further away. Building or exploring, this non-combat accessory can make life a lot easier. Good in creative, and at home in survival.
Backpack
A backpack concept has been discussed plenty of times before. But what is the value of an inventory space in Minecraft? It's finite, and doesn't change from the start to the end of the game. People worried about abusing the pack, putting packs in packs, or packs in chests. But the best way to do it- is to expand your active inventory. Your current inventory is 9x3. 27 slots. But a backpack could add another row. 9x4, 36 slots total. It goes into the accessory slot. And creates a new row. What happens if you remove the pack from the slot? All the items that were in that new row get dropped. So you can't create a blackhole of back packs in chests or in your inventory. Its best not suited for combat or building with other options available. But this would be great for mining.
In closing, this single slot can open a variety of options. They require iron, (or a slime block) and not just leather because they are strong in their own ways and need a tier to get to. Maybe all these things could require "Hardened Leather" that you need to craft with leather and a "Tanner block". (If needed.) People may have an accessory of choice that compliments their play style. Whether these items, or others are used is question later asked. But these things don't directly make you stronger, give you life, nothing that makes you directly overpowered, but they all have a subtle benefit.
You know, I can really see the benefits in something like this. Maybe it could be like an update for the off-hand slot; I don't really see it being worthwhile as an extra. That said, I'm not really fully for these new items you've suggested (I like some more than others) but at the same time I wouldn't be upset if any of them were eventually added into the game. I especially like the way that you can use the elytra along with the full set of armour.
So yeah, I support the idea of a general accessory slot unless any one else can point out a worthy flaw. =)
Thanks. There are some features in the game that are currently a little "hard" to use. It would be nice to see the current content get improved and to give potential to future content/mods.
While an accessory is good for an RPG-style mod, in Minecraft it would have to be simple to fit the game. While this is simple, several of the things are overpowered. Having Elytra and a chestplate equipped are generally considered OP, and the belt contains way to many potions. Simply having 8 slots, with a potion stacking up to one in each slot, would be more balanced. The quiver and glove are good, but you need more accessories to warrant this addition.
Also, are you suggesting adding the new slot, or replacing the off-hand slot? That's where the slot is in the GUI.
Finally, did you get permission to use these textures? The Minecraft ones are fine, but I'm pretty sure the glove and belt are taken from Tinker's Construct.

Why would Elytra and Chest be OP? Also- bear in mind if you do- that means you don't have a belt or quiver equipped.
I can see the potions having a smaller stack, but the point is they stack. It makes you have to be selective with your choices which is the point. Not simply taking up less spots in the inventory- but it forces a purpose. So its not just a 'cheaty' way to carry more.
There could be more accessories, but to avoid the 'wishlisting' thing I only used examples of what accessories could do without simply being "RING OF ATTACK, RING OF FIRE" typical RPG things, like we agree doesn't have a place in vanilla.
Oh, and I guess it would be an extra slot in addition to offhand.
And thats why I just said they're examples. I didn't make them except the recipes.

An Elytra + Chest plate is OP because the tradeoff in protection balances the improvement in movement.
Also, potions can be very powerful. Having that many splash potions would make potions the most powerful weapon in the game, especially because they can nullify armor.
This wouldn't get locked as a wishlist, since everything would be an accessory, and thus pertaining to the main idea of the suggestion. The RPG stuff I agree on, but there are more things you could add.

I don't see the scenario where that would be relevant more often of often enough, than simply being inconvenienced of having to swap around your chest piece. Keep in mind you're now trading your accessory slot instead of your chest slot to hold arguably the most late game item in Minecraft.
Yea I meant to re-suggest like a 3-4 slot in that last post. Also- potions could stack differently in your belt. For example, 16 speed I potions 8 speed 2 potion cap, 1-2 harming pots, etc.
I've just had bad experiences with being accused of wishlisting in the past, so I'm always trying to be extra careful. But with your assurance there are some other ideas I could suggest. Maybe you have some? The main point though was to showcase what an accessory slot could do to improve the game without it becoming Terraria, or World of Warcraft.

To be honest, I actually hold a similar opinion on Elytra. However, this is the argument many others more experienced at critiquing than I have made, so I consider it to be valid argument. But thinking about, it really isn't that overpowered. You just now have to switch to a different accessory.
That seems more balanced for the belt, though I still think it's a little overpowered. To me, four potions per slot would be the maximum limit. You could have multiple belts to save more space.
I understand not wanting to get into the specifics, but that's what most people want when choosing whether or not to support something: specifics. As for other accessories, how about a backpack that adds a few extra slots to your inventory, or having the ability to put a tool in there and using R to switch between it and what's in your hand? Just make sure not to add anything that is currently possible with potions or enchantments.

Just for perspective sake- you're saying the potions would be a little OP. But you're sacrificing that for the OP Elytra. You have to choose. Which goes back to my adding a "personal feel to the game". You pick your style whatever you think is stronger.
Multiple belts wouldn't save a WHOLE lot of space. The advantage of many potion belts loses its difference in power. Once you have a single belt equipped with the potions you want, its about as good as it gets. And if you spend 4 leather and 2 iron just to carry extra potions with you? Its like... okay but why?
I thought about a backpack thing- do you mean its not a separate GUI/inventory, but just adds more squares to your main inventory? That might be work. You can't store packs in packs, because as soon as you remove a pack from your slot. Everything, in lets say, the "extra row" would fall out.
Wow O_O A while back, me and some others from the forums were going to make a big post on "Accessories", and the belt idea was a bit similar to what you have. But our big idea was that the accessories would replace armor in the slots, trading off the defense for other stuff like potions or speed or such. I was actually going to go back and find some of those ideas, and make more, and then post them all in a big thread just a couple days ago, but I got interrupted halfway through and only came back to it now. I'll wait a while though, so its not like I'd be crowding you off
I don't particularly like the idea of a whole 'nother slot for these things, but that's probably just a personal opinion.
I do like some of your ideas for them though! The gloves could be interesting, as long as they didn't increase damage range.

Think about it. Even with four potions per slot, you could have an entire inventory's worth of potions in just three belts. That is a lot of space saving, and you can take a moment to retreat, quickly switch between belts, and then fire with a bunch more potions.
Yeah, the backpack just gives you more slots in your inventory, to avoid replacing ender chests.

That's half point. Saving space. If you're using 4 stack potions than that's like Strength and Speed II? What are you doing that you need more than 5 minutes of Speed 2? It seems like the arguments to be made against it in an attempt to abuse is just unwieldy. Its like me bringing a silk touch pick while mining to save a little space with ore. Yea it saves space, but it's not hugely game changing relevant. If the concept had enough interest, a couple could be tested though. One as is, and one where the belt utilizes potions already in your inventory.

whether my way, your way, your friends way there is a way something like this can and maybe should be added.
And nah, the glove is specifically for placing blocks. It'd be mostly for survival building.

What if I regularly traveled long distances, and I didn't have a horse? Then you could use several speed potions to get around.
The problem is not necessarily that they're OP. You can easily switch between potions already, and this just makes it easier. However, there's no real tradeoff. Sure, you can only have one accessory at a time, but if alchemy is your playstyle, this is going to be your go-to accessory. Everything else would be used on a temporary basis. Either the belt needs to be more expensive, so you can't just make 50 of them, or it needs to have a lower stack size for potions. However, since potion stacking is the main part of this suggestion, I would recommend the former, maybe adding a diamond or an eye of ender.
Also, using silk touch on ores does not really save all that much space while mining, certainly not as much as a reduction as the belt. To most efficiently save space (as displayed by MasterCaver on numerous occasions), you should turn ores into their block forms, and throw anything out that you don't need. Silk touch can be used on an ender chest, however, to allow you to carry even more ores.
