- Is a dark, 2 block long arm, but can stretch out to 3 blocks long, and extends off of Soul Sand from any side.
- Resides in Soul sand like a Silver Fish, making the Soul Sand much more harder to break.
- Will die if their Soul Sand is broken, turning the Soul Sand into its regular item form, which will no longer have a Reaper in it when placed back into its block form.
- Will only extend out of their Soul Sand when a living entity is nearby.
- Will grab any living entity, immobilising it, while pulling its head as close to the Soul Sand as possible. Once it can't pull you any farther, you start to take damage.
- Does 1 heart of damage per second on easy mode, 1.5 per second on normal mode, and 2 per second on hard mode.
- Has 20 health points (10 hearts).
- Will never let go of living entities until they die.
- Will randomly spawn and de-spawn, regardless of light level and player location, but will only do so in the Nether.
- Will not de-spawn when in combat.
- Will never spawn in customised Soul Sand via NBT tags, to allow map makers the ability.
- Will never de-spawn in customised Soul Sand via NBT tags, to allow map makers the ability.
- Will give off subtle particle effects when within Soul Sand.
- Will not come out of its Soul Sand if the player is sneaking (most likely on Soul Sand lol)
- Will have a 25% chance of dropping a Reaper Hand item when killed.
- Will drop a reasonable amount of XP when killed.
- Is said to be the reason why Soul Sand is so saturated with souls.
The Reaper Hand item:
- Can be brewed into an Awkward Potion to create the Potion of Reach.
- Will have the appearance of a dark hand.
The Potion of Reach:
- Provides a living entity with the "Reach" effect.
- Has a duration of 3:00
- Has a duration of 8:00 if brewed with the addition of Redstone Dust.
- Can become more potent, whereby providing a living entity with the "Reach II" effect for a duration of 1:30, if brewed with the addition of Glowstone Dust.
- Can become a Splash Potion of Reach if brewed with the addition of Gun Powder
- Can become a Lingering Potion of Reach if brewed with the addition of Dragons Breath.
- Will have the appearance of a glowing dark grey potion.
The Reach effect:
- Gives the player the ability to break, place blocks, and interact with Buttons, Levers, Doors and Chests an extra 2 blocks away.
- Gives the player the ability to break, place blocks, and interact with Buttons, Levers, Doors and Chests an extra 4 blocks away, when in its more potent form: Reach II.
- Will not give the player the ability to deal melee damage at farther distances.
- Will have a regular hand as its identification icon.

Well it would give the Nether more spice, but some questions. When you are captured by the Reaper, how would you escape? What is the extent of the immobilization?
I wouldn't say the potion's "meh"; it's absurdly overpowered is what it is. Still supporting, still in my sig, but that could stand to be adjusted a bit lot.
One(ish) suggestion: It's a little overpowered if it never lets go, period, so you absolutely HAVE TO engage. Perhaps if it olds for say 4-5 seconds then takes a short break and/or the arm part could be attackible, stunning it for 1-2 seconds after around 5-8 damage, letting you run in for the kill or run the Nether away from the thing. Maybe offset with a little more health.
It's just that if I'm fighting off a horde of ZPMs, getting grabbed by one of these seems like a "NOOOOAAAHHHhhhh $%%$&%%*#." kind of Natural 1 situation.
Not a fan of yet another player-movement-controlling mob, but this one is loads more sensible. Everything's well thought out and balanced, so I can fully support. This is just a small thing, but I'd recommend this thing dropping a finger rather than a whole hand; it's easier to brew just one finger in a potion. That's all subjective-me though. Does thing make any sounds?
You get an upvote just for the fact that you thought out the melee part, as this potion would have butchered PvP and SSP balance if this potion allowed extra melee reach.

"It's a little overpowered if it never lets go, period, so you absolutely HAVE TO engage."
Yup, if you bring a stick to a Reaper fight, you're gonna have a bad time, but this is the Nether we're talking about here; it's suppose to be scary. Just think of Soul Sand as a no go area, if you want to play it safe, because like Creepers, if you ain't prepared, you dead.
"It's just that if I'm fighting off a horde of ZPMs, getting grabbed by one of these seems like a "NOOOOAAAHHHhhhh $%%$&%%*#." kind of Natural 1 situation."
Mind you, these things will grab any living entity, which included Zombie Pigmen, too, and you should never anger a hoard of Zombie Pigmen, especially if you're gonna traverse Soul Sand. If that ever occurs, I recommend pillaring up with blocks instead.
"I'd recommend this thing dropping a finger rather than a whole hand; it's easier to brew just one finger in a potion."
Eeewww ' :[ I think a hand is grotesque enough. Lets just say the hand shrivels up so it's easier to brew.
"Does thing make any sounds?"
Huh, never thought of that. Lets say it makes ghostly moaning noises: The sound of the dead within the Soul Sand.

I'd say the sound of shuffling sand would be more appropriate, but slower than normal sand sounds. Maybe add some subdued moaning underneath that, or growling noises.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that terrifying.
I support this, but I just want to say that you should change the name. When I saw the title all I could think was "oh god please not another black robed mob with a scythe".

I think Reaper is good because it accurately represents what the mob does, reaps souls. I think "Reaper" is a fine name, and if that is too much of a ghoulish, generic name, I'd maybe call it a "Soul Reaper" instead of just a reaper, however redundant.
I think this adds a lot to an empty Nether that we have. Although Mojang and others have been slowly working on the Nether, such as in 1.10, I think that it needs either a revamp or a complete overhaul. I think this adds to the atmosphere and purpose of the Nether, to be the last resting place of mortals.
The Reaper:
- Is a dark, 2 block long arm, but can stretch out to 3 blocks long, and extends off of Soul Sand from any side.
- Resides in Soul sand like a Silver Fish, making the Soul Sand much more harder to break.

The last mod idea I saw that immobilized the player was far less well thought-out than this. Full Support.
I support this, this, and this. And this now. Also this.
An original and thought out suggestion, the Nether could use some spice.

Don't you think the potion of Reach is just a bit overpowered?
Decrease its effect. Maybe the first level adds two blocks of reach, and the second adds 3? Because reaching 15 blocks is in no way balanced.
Partial support. The mob is excellent, but the potion is meh.

"When you are captured by the Reaper, how would you escape?"
Via killing it, but please note that Reapers won't hurt you until you're pulled to their source block, so time is provided.
"What is the extent of the immobilization?"
100%... Um... You as the player will not be able to move within a Reapers grasp, however, you will be moved by the Reaper.
"reaching 15 blocks is in no way balanced."
I had no idea it would be that far xD I will remedy this.
"Reach I" now provides a +2 block reach.
"Reach II" now provides a +4 block reach.

A good idea for the game. Two things though: What is their spawn-rate, and do these spawn when doMobSpawning is set to false?
