I was talking about words that already have doors that are next to each other in a double-door formation.
Honestly, these replies have been baffling to me. If you load an old world with 1.10, the skeletons will still use the new pathing AI. When zombie pathfinding was introduce, that wasn't exclusive to brand new worlds. Changes to boat behaviour wasn't exclusive to brand new worlds.
Double doors (and gates) are annoying, and ought to be fixed. That's all.
No to making it optional. You will accept it, and you will like it.
I will not like it or accept, because it is pointless. What is the big deal with opening two doors that are next to each other? Too much work for everyone to do?
There is a point. That's only the easiest and most convenient point of the bunch as well.
Aesthetics are (by nature and definition) pointless as well. Choice between vinyl siding and brick on a home you're interested in purchasing are largely aesthetic and ultimately pointless. It's still something to consider and an aesthetic choice that makes or breaks the purchase. (Also, look at the many uses of brick in game; they're a pain to make, yet serve an identical purpose to smooth stone in terms of utility. Why do they exist? Because they don't need to satisfy any arguments for function. They just have to look visually appealing to those that wish to use them.)
In this case; you're arguing against the addition of a function that wouldn't actually hurt you.
PROS:
reduces complexity of redstone wiring
increases aesthetics without sacrificing functionality (you can still open an individual door individually)
CONS:
it's pointless[sic]
From my POV, you're trying to argue that aesthetics need a point; which they certainly don't.
Actually, believe it or not, in many constructions, yes.

Except if the only reason to add something is so people don't want to right-click two times, then there really is no actual point. Fense gates were never meant to act like double fense gates. Plus, the OP never said that doors can still be opened individually.

Oh, I can see it used in a lot of applications where redstone wiring would either be difficult, impractical, or impossible while the effect would still be a net gain.
The point? It's aesthetics. Aesthetics are the only grounds free from the need of an objective point. Why do people make paintings in Minecraft. They are pointless. Or, if you do admit that paintings have a point; then it'd be the same obviate that would extend toward this suggestion as well.
Seriously, what would it hurt?
You're denying because of a nonplus. Tell me an actual negative.

Not just asthetics either. With a single door you have a teensy tiny bit of wiggle room to not get caught between the door and the wall. Something like 2 pixels. Trying to run to a door and go through it quickly can get you stuck on the wall until the door shuts in your face. The mouse movement that can cause this issue can be as small as an eighth of an inch, so even a slight adjustment can get you stuck.
Double doors wouldn't have that problem because instead of having a 12 pixel hitbox going through a 14 pixel space, you go through a 28 pixel space giving you plenty of room. Double doors were already basically entirely asthetic, this makes them more useful on top of that.

Not to mention, horses REQUIRE two gates. They can't move through a single gate. And when you've got that horse's head right in front of you, opening both gates can be a pain. Which is fine, if the gates are in a fence, but they're not always. Sometimes, they're in a barn or a stable where you can't just jump over it to get into the stall.
Rather than a /gamerule, the game can recognize what part of the block you click on. What if clicking hinge-side opens one doors, handle-side (middle of double doors) opens both?

Support.
Yes, shift-rclick to open individual doors.
No to making it optional. You will accept it, and you will like it.
