(...) c. Water Cushioning Falls
You are at your thousand-block-high tower. To descend the tower, you jump into a 2-meter-high pool of water. Unscathed, you continue on your way.
No. Just no. (...)
Yes! Oh yes! Because this is a GAME, and games should be FUN, and seriously, I don't think there's anything more awesome than jumping off a thousand block high tower, landing in a barrel of water, popping up again like it's nobody's business and proceeding to fight an exploding green penis while munching pork chops. It's what makes Steve awesome, it's what makes the game awesome, and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
Now, onto the height increasing idea: Does it work with existing maps? Does it give chunks you haven't been to yet the chance to generate mountains that are this tall/oceans that are this deep? Does it work without killing your FPS or increasing crash probability? Will there be multiple clouds at high levels? If so, then it is a idea, and I will definitely use such a mod. Most of the other stuff here is sort of not that interesting IMO, but it would be cool with more underwater content. Sunken ships are a little overblown I think, but some underwater caves with chests and mob spawners in them would be dope.
I like the idea and concept, but Notch has stated several times that he wants Minecraft to be more of a "fantasy" game. Even though I doubt he will add to the game, I still think this idea has potential. Another thing is that it is WAY TOO realistic. Like really, 7000 block high mountains? HOLY ****. Maybe you should make it something like 300-1000. I just think having to climb a mile high mountain in minecraft is a bit TOO much. This could definitely work for "hardcore" version of the game along with alot of mods out there.
This is not real life. This is Minecraft. We play Minecraft to get away from the REAL world. Minecraft is freaky, I know, but it can't be like your life. My eyes are burning from this suggestion. I am not kidding. Increasing the height is madness. Listen, TL;DR:
You (reading this post): THIS IS REAL LIFE!
Me: Real life, no, THIS, IS, MINECRAFT! *kicks you*
Just try to make it freaky if you are too dumb to take it off the forums. How the idiots of these forums vote yes I do not know. If you voted I HATE THIS, you are now the best person in the world.
I really like the idea in the first post. I think some of the things are maybe un-neccesarily complex, maybe it would be better to just have a formula for how fast your thermometer would increase/oxygen-meter would deplete below and above a certain height, and after that damage starts (and some non-damaging effects could start near the ends of the thermo-/oxygen-meters). I think that would be a fine model in Minecraft, also so people don't have to read and remember a lot of text to understand what happens, but can simply think "if I go further down, this will deplete faster", "if the thermometer gets above this point, strange things can happen" and so on.
I think the best feature to be implemented would be infinite height.
Idea approved. :smile.gif:
Infinite height, now?
....I kinda like the idea, but what happens if you go too high?
Here's what I'd do to get up high; slowly ascend so that you "get used to" each Zone that the person suggested, until...well, you're basically ungettable-to, because you would be higher up and not take ANY damage.
But that's just me and my mountaineering instincts.

I'd like greater map height and water depths, but the dimensions suggested here are far too great. I'd be very happy with 512 or even just 256 total map height.

wow. u put alot of effort into this and its an amazing idea explained in thorough detail. i would love to see this in minecraft and it fits in very well. i applaud how long u stuck to this and it definitly enhances the end project. some of the stuff u mentioned i didnt know existed and i think notch has his work cut out for him.
I like some of these ideas but some of them are just... No
You really bumped a dead thread to say you don't like it?

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
This would be very cool but would add a LOT to the game. For people with not the best computers this could cause normally normal render distance people to put their render distance on tiny. But the way you explained the rendering might work but I am not sure.
I think that implementing this might actually be possible. We would need the full mod API, because adding something this complex to undocumented code ain't happening. For it to be doable, you'd need the current chunks to remain the same size so you can use existing terrain generation and biomes. There would be a small chance of a mountain being generated, which would be added after the existing chunk generator finishes. There would need to be a new chunk generator implemented for digging below the current adminium level, and of course you'd have to adjust ore probabilities for your new scheme.
Sky chunks - any rock formations from the lower level chunks get continued upwards into the sky chunks. That's how mountains work. There would be a small chance of a sky biome being generated up very high with floating islands and similar. Only shadows cast from the first couple sky chunks above you would be used.
The air gauge/heat gauge stuff would be a piece of cake to add. Most existing mods would still work in this new expanded world.
I think you should get a team together of experienced coders (this is a pure coding mod...you'd need 1 art guy for every 10 programmers) and start planning out what has to be done. Release goal would be a working beta version 1 month after the release date of the mod API.
If the mod is as amazing as you hoped, there's a chance that Notch will purchase it and the team that creates it can share the license fee which might be a fair bit of cash.
I love the whole idea, but Corenium armor is literally the same as diamond. All armors protect the same amount of damage, but they have different durabilities. If you get hit by lava with leather armor and instantly jump out, the armor will protect you just as much as diamond. However, it will deteriorate VERY quickly, so it's entirely worse than diamond. That is the common misconception, but iron armor is actually the best, simply because iron is more common an still withstands a lot (in the realm of damage. It will last long, but remember, iron has 256 uses, diamond 1024, and hits do a lot of damage in hearts, which are actually every half heart, and a single arrow destroys 4 durability). You should retool corenium, but other wise amazing.
1. Sarzael, quit bumping the thread. Seriously. If people still care about it, they'll post their support of it. You don't need to do it for them.
2. The fact of the matter is that with the way Minecraft is coded currently, increasing the maximum height/depth of the game would take a ton of work, far more than the majority of what Notch has been working on for 1.8. Personally, I'm fine with the height/depth as it is, and would much rather see Notch work on developing things he's already made (the Nether, for example) and adding more content (like the pistons) than spending his time on this.

Well, for those wanting to at least experience playing minecraft with a higher height and greater depth right now despite not having the other things proposed in this thread's mod idea, you can go to the following Link for instructions on how to do so. The solution linked below does not use 3D Chunks, but it can produce higher terrain:
However; concerning 3D Chunks; The following two threads have some great discussion and detail on how 3D Chunks would work and how they actually could be implemented. Pay particular attention to Nocte's posts in each thread: Infinite Height/Depth - Radioaktiivinen How to make it work - Nocte
+ Plus, the playable and downloadable open source C++ version of minecraft still in development called Minetest-c55 is currently using 3D Chunks. The height limit is 31k blocks and so is the depth limit!

Below is a picture of the sort of thing you could enjoy on a higher map. It comes from a still actively developed and Downloadable map project called LittleBigPlanet. It uses the same solution as described in my first link in this post. Check it out! :biggrin.gif:
I'm not sure if anyone has posted anything like this, but Yetis couldn't just exist in the "3rd Quarter" as you call it, they would probaly range from mid 3rd quarter to high 1st quarter, because if yetis truly are primates, they would have to go down to the 2nd quarter for their favorite vegatation(just below the snow cap), and maybe prey. In the real world, supposedly, the only thing keeping them from going to lower levels is humans. They supposedly have shelters in the snowcap to avoid contact. Of course I'm probaly not 100% correct(I'm not 100% sure on the details). So I think that yetis should be incredibly rare, not as rare as they are here because there isn't really any human population, BUT the probability of finding one might be higher at the top, then drastically decrease as you go down.
I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being too much of a critic, other than that I really liked the rest of the post though, these are just my views.
I do not like the idea of needing oxygen tanks for the differant levels of the mountains, and the fatigue factor is really quite silly, instead it should work like this, because Notch said he is adding sprinting in the adventure update, all fatigue can be put on to the new running feature, instead of normal walking. In real life one would not need oxygen at 8000 meters and even then its usually unnecessary up over 10,000 meters (mount everest) , if you are not doing some sort of race at that altitude, and the heat factor would take place 2-4 kilometers below the earths crust, not higher, and even then most of the time it would just induce sana like conditions. .
I personally have done a marathon at 3000 meters, and while I was impaired in speed, it was still possible, and not as hard as you would think, and dont think this is the only thing wrong with your suggestions, you need to look a lot of things up, and think about what would be FUN.
