This is a pretty simple idea and shouldn't be hard to implement at all. Basically what I propose is a button (probably center-click by default) that would craft all material in the crafting area rather than having to click over and over.
For example, you put in 20 wood blocks in the crafting area, and then center-click on the wooden plank output. You instantly have a stack of 64 wooden planks in hand and 4 blocks left in the crafting area. Naturally less material would be a smaller stack. Put 10 wood blocks in and center click will leave you with an empty crafting area and 40 planks.
It's a simple idea but when crafting a bunch of planks (or torches or anything else that you craft a lot of at once) it would be so much faster (and easier on the hand) than having to mash left-mouse button until you have a full stack. Turning 64 wooden blocks into 4x64 stacks of wooden planks would take only 8 clicks (4 to craft, 4 to drop each stack to craft the next) rather than 68 clicks.
It's a decent idea, but there are times when I don't want to turn something completely to a finished product. I'd say to have it wired to ctrl+click or shift+click.

Well either way it'd be an alternate button. It wouldn't replace the regular crafting button, it'd be a separate option. Left click would still do what it had always done and craft whatever the minimum output is for your input, but you'd have the option to center click (or as you suggest ctrl+click or shift+click) and craft a full stack.
I've been wanting this for quite a while. I'm aware there are mods and plug-ins that do actions simular to this but I feel it should be intrinsic to the game. Get Satisfaction said this is planned and I hope it's true.
