Right, like saying let's add guns, but if you don't like it don't craft it. Come back once you have a real argument please.
I didn't get your point ._.
Most people consider the "don't like it, don't craft it" argument to be something of a cop-out.
While it might seem like a valid argument, it's only valid when implementation truly costs nothing and does not alter gameplay for anybody else but the crafter.
While this probably wouldn't alter gameplay for others, implementation means Notch would have to devote resources to putting this in the game: Time, coding, and capacity. All of these things are things that could be devoted to something else more worthwhile.
If you don't understand the "guns" part, let us look at the underlined text. Not only does it cost resources, it would also alter the gameplay vastly. The people who don't want guns would not have a say in whether or not they get shot.
EDIT: Dammit, ninja'd again.

Yes, yes I am. A pessimist is always either right, or pleasantly surprised.

Egads..this is World of Warcraft meets Battlefield 1942 in a dark alley with way too much to drink and no discarded mattress nearby.
I like it how it takes 5 cubic metres of wool to make a single moustache.
But in all seriousness, I like this, but it really doesn't add much to the gameplay. Then again, neither was being able to put a pumpkin on your head...
It being completely cosmetic and not game altering in any way is specifically WHY it should not be implemented. All you are asking is for a wearable mustache that would behave exactly the same as if you edited your character skin to give it a mustache.
Therefore, it is not worth wasting the time, materials, nor the recipe to create it. Just go ahead and give yourself one in whatever color you like by editing your skin.
I already have a mustache, I don't need another one. I have to join the "neat but totally pointless waste of coding" camp on this idea. This wouldn't even be worth the effort to make a mod, despite the immense coolness of mustaches. It's basically a part of a skin, that you won't see ingame yourself ever. And as far as editing the skins themselves, even a dog could use the tools available right now. It's about as tough as using crayons.

Except that when the full game comes out, not every average Joe will know how to edit their skin, and it would be much easier to just craft one. Much like paintings. I don't want to edit the textures of the gravel blocks every time I want a painting on my wall.
As for your resource argument; see above posts. The time, cost, and space would be so insignificant in comparison to all the other larger consepts on this forum that it just wouldn't make a difference.
I don't buy the "not every person can edit their skin" argument. Honestly, if they can't pull paint up, draw 10 or so pixels, they probably are so dumb they can't get minecraft working.

Don't group people like that >.> I know lots of people who simply haven't looked into skinning for MC yet >.>
That aside, I'm not too keen on this idea, however, if some people would use it, why not? It wouldn't affect me in any mode if I choose not to use it and would be a bit of fun if I did without the hassle of logging out, re-skinning, logging back in..."TA-DAAAA whatcha think? good isnt it? yeah, taking it off now" log out, re-skin again, log in. I think this would be purely a cosmetic addition which would come later in the development of MC rather than sooner, but it would make a fun addition ^^

"Never underestimate the predictability of human stupidity"
Of course. I play vanilla minecraft. but is anyone going to stop playing the game because they can't get a mustache. If they want one, If fact the amount of people that want a mustache is probably very small. There's really no point to adding it other then a stupid joke that would get very stale after seeing it 3 times.

This is the dumbest most useless idea I've seen in a while.
Why add something that does nothing and is just stupid?
Pointless.
This is mine craft. A piece of software where you run around click and holding on cubes till they blow up, then you collect them and run around placing them in new locations, and produces zero real world value.
Stupid and pointless just happens to best describe this game. And that is part of what makes it bloody good fun.
Frankly, this is a small feature worthy of going 'into the hat'. (Small, simple, non-critical features for devs to pull out when they're bored as something to work on.)

Minecraft is not 'stupid and pointless' or be the best description for it. It is a creative tool that allows people to make whatever they feel like making, without having to pay more then 20$ over the internet. When you finish a fortress you get a sense of achievment, because you made it .You gathered the resources needed to make it. of course, the sense of achievment is thrown into the void if you use a inventory editor to get the materials.
However, if you think about it everything is pointless since we are all going to die eventually.
back on topic: This idea seems like it is useless because of how few people would actually use it, and because its another thing that would only be to have something funny. Jokes get old, and this one seems like it would age, die, and turn to dust before it really ever gets funny. And even then only slightly funny. Chances are that once people have made one, they will forget it exists for a few days because using the third-person-view that lets you see your face is not used very often, and when you open your inventory you are not focusing on your avatars face, your focusing on you inventory.
Also, welcome back muncher :smile.gif:
quick question I have for you: did you get the PM I sent you? I just wanted some feedback on a idea I thought of a while ago. :tongue.gif:
Here's the thing people. You guys say it'd be better to edit the skin, but we only have a small space to work with. Now, take into consideration, armour. It's larger than the character, and so having the moustache as a skin wouldn't work. That is why it would need to be a wearable item to make it look good.
Black wool also isn't a rare item, it's found not only directly on sheep, but regular sheep + squids are easy to find. White wool + Ink sack is an easy combo.
And also, the wig idea is something I like. I mean you have to admit, wool is basically pointless unless you're building in a multiplayer server, or have a spark for interior decorating.
lol @ people thinking it's a super srs suggestion.
There are better things that the game could be updated with before a mighty moosestash, but the idea of wearable cosmetic items being added down the line is a fun concept.
Because it hasn't been presented yet, I'm going to present the gender equality argument:
The default avatar is already a male and mustaches are generally regarded as a predominantly masculine feature (disregarding the extreme minority of female moustache wearers). Why not spend the time and resources adding features for feminine avatars instead of adding more for male avatars?
I'm not saying yay or nay, but it's food for thought.
(I'll totally trololol though if it just adds fuel to the fire)

Women who get upset over mustaches are just jealous.
(I'm just joking though. But seriously, if anyone gets upset that the default character is a male, just edit the skin. Or Notch can add a "Are you a male of female" option)
I'm trying to resist the urge to comment on the maturity and direspect of your last comment. Oop, too late. I just did.
Moving right along, moustaches are technically already possible to have using a basic skin editor. You can even make it 3D by adding it to the "helmet" part of the skin. Instead, how about simply extending the helmet skin so it goes down longer and allows for new hair types? You could also use it to create new head gear not currently possible with the current skin system.
Oh look at that, I managed to make a suggestion that would benefit all parties involved and doesn't make me look like an ignorant, pubescent teenager who mainly identifies women by their breasts.
Not that I'm accusing anyone of being an ignorant, pubescent teenager, but that last comment was just rude.
