I'm new here so please excuse the lack of graphics and dreaded wall of text.
Telescope:
- Crafting: 3 planks across the top, 2 glass at the edges of the middle, 3 planks across the bottom. []
- Allows distant objects to be viewed at a higher resolution, good for checking distant shorelines and caves for minerals, but does not render anything new beyond the normally viewable horizon.
Anvil:
- Crafting: 3 iron across top, 1 in the center, 3 across bottom.
[] []
- Placeable object like a workbench.
- Iron tools and armor may now be restored to partial or full health using less blocks of iron than would be required to rebuild the entire item, doesn't have any value for shovels or flint sparkers since they only take 1 to begin with.
- Same rules could apply to anvils of other materials, this would be very useful for repairing diamond armor.
Bell:
- Crafting: same as iron pant armor but with sand in the two middle blocks, simulating the mold process used for making real bells.
- Can be made of iron, gold, or diamond, each making their own tone when rung.
- Can be activated by hitting, switch, button, etc.
- Useful for pressure pad alarms, logic gate timer alarms, etc.
Iron, gold, diamond fences:
- Same as wood but doesn't burn.
Parachute:
- Crafting: 3 wool across the top, 2 string at the edges of the middle row, 1 string in the middle of the bottom row. []
[] []
- One time use, right click with it selected while falling to safely land.
Hot air balloon:
Crafting (had to improvise the icons here)
- 9x leather = leather block
- 8x leather blocks with the center square open = balloon []
- U shaped 7x reeds/sugar cane/bamboo = basket. [] []
- Balloon goes over a stove, stove goes over the basket, 2 strings each go to the left and right columns.
[] []
- The balloon is the same size as a ghast with 4 string sprites holding a single basket block at the base and the stove above your head in the middle. So from the bottom to top: 1 basket block, empty space for you to enter, stove block, could be another empty space above that or not, and a hollow cube of leather equal in size to a ghast head. all connected at the corners with string sprites.
Function:
- The balloon will fly so long as you have coal or wood to burn, then it safely falls.
- You can pilot the balloon the same as walking, even on the way down if you run out of coal.
- If you land on water, lava, or exit the balloon on trees the balloon is destroyed, drops stove.
- A side impact with trees or rock damages the balloon, you fall from wherever the balloon was if it's destroyed.
- Impacts with grass, dirt, snow, sand, or gravel, including landings, cause very little to no damage.
- A stove loaded with coal will not activate if you're out of the balloon, but mobs can activate it and fly off. Oh yes, pigs will fly.
- Balloons can be shot down with 7 arrows, though it would seem easier to shoot the operator and let the deactivated balloon fall in tact.
- Does not work in the nether, or, it does work but takes constant damage and burns coal much faster to compensate for the hotter temperatures of the atmosphere.
- You can use your bow and arrow while piloting the balloon, even to aim up and shoot yourself down.
- The balloon is flammable, not affected by the stove obviously.
- If you exit the balloon mid-air you'll fall the remaining distance to the ground and the balloon will also fall safely, drifting in whatever direction you were last going.
- A damaged balloon may be patched and repaired a limited number of times with leather blocks.
Shields. I know this idea has been mentioned before, but it's worth repeating because I really want a shield! :smile.gif:
And now for an off the wall idea, Ghast hearts:
- Drops after ghast is killed.
- Place in the center of a dispenser made of obsidian to create a turret that shoots an infinite supply of fireballs, still requires trigger/switch.
- Can fuel the oven at a much slower burn rate than coal.
- Can be placed on a stick to create an anti-torch.
- Casts darkness, reduces light value of nearby torches. 4 hearts at the corners of a 3x3 square, even surrounded by torches, would create a very low light level block in the center.
- Can be eaten to restore full health, aaand lights you on fire. Don't eat without water nearby.
- Water destroys it, it can survive non-nether lava.
Wow, some good ideas you got there. I'm not sure about the ghast heart it just seems kinda weird, but the rest sound good to me. I especially like the anvil and balloon.

Our life is made by the death of others. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. Live with the Creed.
I support the telescope and the anvil. There is already a music block, so we do not need a bell. Parachute is indeed practical, but probably too practical and easy craftable. Hot air balloons could be an addition within a suggestion I've posted (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=167015 if you are interested). And ghast hearts would be too complex (I also find some of it's properties somewhat unfitting).

I suggest you try to stick to one topic at a time.
This is why:
1. It allows you to easily follow everyone's opinion on your idea
2. It allows you to spend more time developing the idea, and every single pro and con of it
3. It allows you to keep the idea up to date, instead of trying to do so with 20 other ideas.
and my favourite of all
4. it doesn't go against the rules.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works
I especially like the idea for the Anvil where you can repair armor and weapons, maybe it can be a furnace type GUI where you add the metal for 'fuel' and hit it with a hammer (or your hand, because it is Minecraft) to repair the item in the box that would originally contain the 'being smelted' item, it also reminds me of the Washing Machine Mod by crazyputje on the concept or repairing stuff, maybe the anvil can be a more fantasy and sensible way to repair armor and weapons? (Not to be insulting, he does have an awesome mod)
wow , thanks for posting ideas that have been posted 10000 times already

The ghast heart...
Shoots unlimited fireball ... , OP!
Decreasing light level ? , why would someone decrease the light level of the torches ? , if you place torches you did it for a reason , to stop monster spawning >_<
Instead of balloons made from leather and instead of Ghast hearts, why not have Ghasts drop their hides and use that as the material for the balloon? The Ghast's themselves are balloon-like in their movement, so use their hide as the balloon material. It would make a balloon harder to acquire this way, as you would have to kill a good number of Ghasts first.
