As you all know, deserts in Minecraft are bland. Sand, sandstone, cacti, and deadbush, it's really all that there is in a desert. If you're lucky, you can find a desert temple, but that isn't much either. This suggestion simply expands the empty deserts in Minecraft.
Mummies
Since there are desert temples, there should at least be some sort of mob guarding it. These would solve the problem. They'll rise out of the ground, and the more that are killed, the more damage they do. They begin by doing half a heart of damage, but it can expand to 3 hearts maximum. Its attack style is similar to a zombie, however, it can see you through blocks, and is as slow as a creeper. I am currently working on textures.
Pitaya
A pitaya is a fruit found on many cacti. In Minecraft, 1-4 pitayas would have a chance to be on a cactus that is more than 2 blocks high. If eaten, it will deal half a heart of damage, but refills 2.5 hunger points.
Joshua Trees
The shape of Joshua trees look like Acacia trees, except shorter and smaller.
Joshua Wood
Joshua trees are found in tons of deserts in real life. Adding it to Minecraft couldn't hurt, and could really help players who spawn in a desert. Below is are Joshua Planks, and Joshua Logs. Of course, Joshua Logs can be crafted into planks.
Joshua Seedling
Basically, this is a Joshua sapling. I think a seedling would be more unique however. Seedlings can only be planted on red sand, and regular sand. Joshua seedlings grow much faster than Saplings, and only requires one bonemeal to grow it completely. The reason it can grow quicker is that Joshua trees in real life themselves are very short, and take less time to grow than average trees. Plus, Joshua trees would provide less wood.
Joshua Leaves
Can't "leave" these out. Joshua leaves have a chance to drop Joshua Seedlings and pitayas, but break a bit slower than normal leaves. Only a few leaves are found on Joshua trees.
Though it adds a touch of realism to deserts, I think that adding lush to the biome would kill the dry, "desert" mood. And deserts are hardy bland (*ahem*, Desert Villages, *cough*, Buried Dungeons, *wheeze*, Desert Temples and Wells). Also, its advisable to not use "Coming Soon"; fully develop your idea before posting it.

It's a decent concept for adding a little more to deserts than vast expanses of nothing. I think it'd be good for a new tree type. Support!

Except those are uncommon. Besides, deserts should be spiced up to feel like an actual desert, and not like "Oh! There's a beach with cacti over there!"
Well, I've thought that this one would be something about variable desert sub-biomes or something. But here we have "coming soon" and pack of textures. Even no idea of those Joshuas' size and shape or their generation.
Then say something like "Excuse me, what's the size of Joshua trees in game?"
It's a smaller and shorter Acacia tree. And what's even worse about the Suggestion community is that it's ironic they put "COMING SOON" on their own posts, and they're yet opposing other threads for saying that.

I guess I'm confused... Are you saying that the entire Suggestion Community puts "coming soon", AND that the entire Suggestion community opposes that?
Just wondering.

So I don't think this would change much. Take the forest for example. It has trees and yet some parts of the community find it "boring". Im not saying forests are boring but I think this would ruin the purpose of the desert. the desert is meant to be a hard desolate land that doesn't have much plant life sort of a 'challenge' ( Although it isn't really that challenging ). Over all Ehh No Support
They say "COMING SOON" like I add, but in a different way. "I'm adding more sooner or later!"
Then why not just update the thread when you have something to add, rather than trying to "hype" the thread with preemptive promises. Or better yet, finish your suggestion and then post it. It's one thing to mention that you'll be updating a thread with new content, but if you're artificially withholding parts of your suggestion just so you can "make it later", that just means that you're burning up the potential your thread has.
We don't come here because we wanted to read about suggestions, we come here because we want to share our opinions about them as well as criticize them to help them become better. You're not going to get a better suggestion just because you withheld some parts until later, in fact you're going to end up with a much worse one as you'll forever have lost the benefit of the first impression, and any changes will feel harder and harder to implement in fully without rewriting the thread.
Finish your thread instead of making excuses, all excuses are is a way to make people empathize with you.
The coming soon criticism really only matters if there is nothing to critique, in my opinion. As long as the core idea is done; plenty of people add stuff to their idea later. Whether this thread is complete enough, I can't judge that and I really don't care either way. The suggestion form is about writing and critiquing suggestions, debating use of word terminologies isn't that relevant to the idea itself.
I really don't support desert structures with leaves. If they were rare, maybe. But how would trees survive in the desert where there is no water anymore? Would kill the atmosphere and wouldn't make any sense. Though I like your cacti ideas. Cacti fruit is a good idea due to the lack of food in this biome, depends how it is implemented. But possibly may be too common with that chance of dropping the cacti fruit, how common are the cacti?

I'm still confused... I'm a member of the Suggestion Community, but I don't put "Coming soon" or something like that. And I know a bunch of the members of the Suggestions Community, the ones who actually hang around here and make good posts and warn people and stuff, and they don't say "Coming Soon"... Broccoli, Endergirl. Lethal, Vamp... The only people I see who say that are the ones who have just arrives, and its one of their first few posts, so the members who have been around longer haven't warned them yet. :/

I guess it contributes, but why deserts? They're one of the most unique biomes in the game. Non-grassy ground type, unique ground cover (cacti and dead bushes), three unique structures (paltry, yes, but still the most out of any biome in the game)... they've already got a lot going for them. You'd be better off looking at another biome, methinks.

Granted, I don't make suggestions, so don't give me credit for that. Thanks anyway though. Never came up with an idea that I was satisfied with. People who have seen a lot of suggestions have seen a lot of posts have more experience at this sort of thing. My first suggestion criticisms were kinda cringe worthy, I am sure many long-term users have posts they don't agree with anymore either.
I wouldn't say the experienced critics should be like teachers to tutor all of the new people. There isn't some united front that we are part of, everyone disagrees with each other time to time, like anywhere else on the forum. I am not an authority on debating, I or any experienced critic could say something complete wrong, people shouldn't take anyone's advice without question. Being new doesn't mean your wrong, as long as they give a good argument to back up their points, they should be taken as seriously as anyone. Though these kinds of debates can be avoided if more people read the suggestion guide, there already is a place to discuss writing suggestions and the "coming soon" thing.

I personally don't think the deserts need more but I could see this implemented as a mini sub-biome like desert oasis or desert edge (or incorporated into desert m where water can be found) to break the shift between biomes. If implemented as a sub-biome I think it could use a small animal of sorts like an Armadillo for peaceful mob and a Scorpion (same size as cave spider) if a hostile mob was incorporated.

Have to agree with this, I just can't see how this fruit is OP.
If a fruit that restores 2.5 points of hunger in exchange for dealing 1 point of damage (Meaning 8 points/4 hearts of damage to restore full hunger from empty), and which can only be found in desert biomes, is considered OP then the current food system must be seriously messed up.
Look at all those easy to farm food types which restore more hunger and don't hurt you as an added benefit.

The 1 damage gained from it will be healed in a few seconds. Deserts are fairly common. Looks good These could be in a sub-desert biome.
I like this suggestion. The pictures are nice, and I feel its good.
But one part of me feels that this is a little bland, and it could have a little bit of flair.
I dislike the part of Coming Soon: Mummies... I feel that is an unnecessary hostile mob, and you would need to do a wack out job to impress me...
