What about assigning hotkeys to things? press 2 to select the weakest pick in your pack, or the strongest, 3 for axes, etc.
1. That would kind of useless.
2. It would be annoying to use, and hard to code, I'm guessing.
3. It would replace a more useful thing.
On topic: This is a great idea, it's really annoying to have to go into your inventory to get another porkchop when you're running away from a creeper.

That's the idea of having the inventory the current way, someone said in the autoreplacement idea that the idea of the inventory being this way is to force the player to plan carefully, with tools, food and blocks all in your quickbar where you can reach them if you need them. "Other games" make no difference. Minecraft is not "other games" with scrolling inventories.
Everyone who says "What do I no have middle mouse button" he means to click with the scroll wheel, like on web pages, where clicking with the wheel allows you to scroll by moving the mouse.
Minecraft is every bit like other games with inventories. You can scroll through your inventory in every game I can recall that has it except maybe diablo and some console RPGs where their scroll systems are more primitive. You can't say that for games on the PC. Besides if you can scroll through your hotbar you should be able to scroll through any chest/inventory screen.
I had an idea concerning inventory screen applications. If you have an item selected in the inventory/ storage menu and press a number key, it will play it in the hotbar and put the item that is there into storage. This idea is complimentary to my main idea and is NOT a replacement.
This idea deserves attention. Searching for a well made post is better than bumping single paragraph suggestions for a different version of this idea. My idea is not the same as others and I would like you to post an example where they suggested the exact same thing.
just dont bump it if nothing happens for a day, make a post the contributes to it. not just saying BUMP
I didn't BUMP it recently.
But those ideas aren't exactly like my own idea. I want a scrollable tranluscent menu that doesn't work according to hotkey. I don't use hotkeys at all really. Besides my thread has a poll.
Thanks for your support. Not a lot of people support my ideas for whatever reason. They just ignore them and it pisses me off. They would rather post about a duplicate being a duplicate than post on an idea thread that actually has merit.
I believe this would be a great idea, but i think that It shouldn't be a menu that pops up. Instead i believe that this should be different like instead of a translucent menu popping up you should be able to use the scroll wheel to literally scroll through your inventory without having a menu pop up.
it could be this simple with whatever main bar slot you are using at the moment you should be able to scroll up or down and change what is in that slot without accessing you inventory at all. there have been to many time i wish i could just press the arrow keys up or down or scroll up and down and have the items changed without going into my inventory.
I love this idea and thoroughly believe it should be implemented in beta 1.6 it would work perfectly and it would make me very happy to not have to open my inventory every second to change what I'm doing.

I like your idea, but I think that in action-packed situations, you really need the hotbar to be like the belt in Diablo 2, so when you run out of an item, the items in that column should automatically shift down.
you can have one from me.

I thought of a more fluid way of accessing your inventory. What if you could use your center mouse button to open up this scrollable list of items in your inventory and you can click to swap that item with the current item you are holding. That way you can quickly access storage while on the move, or under pressure.
If your sword runs out, scroll for your backup sword in your inventory. It would be simple.
Edit: Seriously if your friend hands you a sword it is highly unlikely it's going to put it in your selection bar. ._.
Read my post a bit further down for a more in depth explanation of this idea.
Edit2: Added a poll. If this gets enough positive posts, I'll put it on GetSatisfaction.

I Guess It's Alright But , That Mean You Can Hold Way More Items For The Chest Scrolling Idea I Think Will Be Better
But To Be Honest It's alright. :happy.gif:
