You probably clicked this thread expecting a "Mojang please add an OP God weapon to the game!". That is not what I'm going for. When people talk about the best stuff in Minecraft, they obviously say the diamond tier. Which is precisely how it is and should be. At least in terms of armor. But I am having qualms with the diamond sword being the end all be all weapon, and feel the game lacks any proper conclusionary item.
Look at the dragon egg. An utterly useless trophy which will only be usable to respawn a boss who will drop LESS xp. Look at the beacon. It's great and all, but realistically won't make much a difference once you have diamond gear. The elytra is so handicapped that it has become underpowered and is more for fun than something desirable.
Now I understand MC is not a traditional game and shouldn't be. But could you imagine some weapon that outranks the diamond sword? A sort of Excalibur? Before you go saying this will break the balance of the game, imagine a +6 attack damage sword with incredible durability and a gimmick. Perhaps it is not enchantable but can never break. Or it just has intersesting properties like it slows you down when you have low health or something. Or maybe even just a generally good sword. People would have no reason to hate on it. I know that statement sounds like I'm making a suggestion just to make one, but Minecraft basically NEEDS some good worthwhile reward. An egg and some wings won't cut it.
How would you get it?
You would have to complete a very rare dungeon in the overworld. There would be a very low amount of them and would be pretty scattered. At the end of the short, simple dungeon is a strange purple compass called the ender compass. Name is a placeholder. This compass would actually WORK in the end, and lead you to a distant tower which you would need stacks and stacks of blocks to build your way to. Or perhaps the elytra would work better in the end allowing you to glide there more effectively. What ever the case, it would be a tower in the end. Now you all know just how unnecessarilyhard the guardian temple is. Well, it would be harder then that. Five floors of madness. Each floor is more brutal than the last. Mwahaha! Suggested by badrenup, you cannot mess with blocks in the tower. The mirror in the final floor acts as a beacon preventing building in places within its radius. The first floor is fill of soul sand and mob spawners. Kill the mobs while slowly trudiging through the soul sand with skeletons shooting knockback 2 arrows at you from all directions. Yep, how fun! The second floor is a parkour puzzle with high stakes. The third floor is a trap room centered around drowning with an underwater labyrinth. The fourth floor is a boss fight floor. It introduces a new boss called the Obsidian Golem who is an aggro iron golem who can teleport, and has identical stats. It's rigged so you can't get past him without destroying him. The fifth floor, after going through a brutal dungeon, is the sword in a pedestal and a giant mirror. Grab the sword, and prepare to use it. Because the boss you are about to face is about to test everything you have ever learned about MC! The mirror shatters, and out comes a dark version of you named "Dark -insertplayername-" using your skin but with black particle effects swirling around it.
Dark Steve:
HP: 400
Immune to: Nothing until 75%, in which it resists fire, water, suffocation in general, and potions.
It fights like a normal player only can teleport around and shoot dark sword beams using the dark version of the ultimate sword, carefully staying a favorable distance because it has a ranged projectile.. At 75% HP, it gains a wither barrier making it immune to everything except the sword. At 50% HP, it can inflict random status effects. At 25% HP, it is reaching its limit and looks unstable, teleporting around semi randomly. At 5% HP, which is 20 HP, it kneels on the ground and gives up. If you finish it, your sword will be stuck in its chest and you will get the dark version. If you spare it, it will fade away by itself leaving behind a golden apple.
The best proposal for the sword is it has high durability, +6 damage, and can fire sword beams when sneaking. However, these sword beams use up a large amount of the strength bar meaning you have to wait slightly more than twice as long to even use a standard attack.
The dark version of the sword can fire "sword beams" as well, without the drawback of time. However, it damages the player in doing so. Or perhaps gives them some nasty status effects.
Both versions can mine blocks like an iron tiered pick and shovel showing energy particles circulating around the block being broken and thus serve as a multipurpose tool.
A good name for this sword is the "Angelis" or "Diablis" for the dark version.
"Why two versions?"
-Because I felt the scenario to save or spare the darkness within you proved your character and added to the replay value of the dungeon. To simply think you can kill your inner darkness will cause it to force its way back inside while accepting and coming to terms with it will bring you inner balance.
"This will make diamond swords useless!"
-No. Fully enchanted diamond swords are a must for this dungeon. It's just that hard. And a two parter. After that, you still need diamonds for armor.
"This is useless. Why have it?"
Remember those days where you used to trade pokemon cards with your friends? "No way, is that a mew?". Basically that. It's like the ultimate bragging right and a reward that is actuallly useful. It is worth the time it takes to get it without being OP/Broken and adds incentive to win the game. "Oh, I have the dark version!" "Cool. I like the light one better tho!" Yeah. Swag.
"The ender dragon is good enough!"
As a final boss, yes. This is more of a superboss. Postgame material.
Having an ultimate weapon which is not OP and is unique is something Minecraft needs. Minecraft needs something worth adventuring for! Minecraft needs an excalibur awaiting the player from the moment they spawn and build a dirt house! A final goal which will help the player play the game with fun! I only won MC once, because the egg is not worth it. But I made it very far in many, many other worlds just to deem the final fight wasn't worth it. Voice your support/critisism/alterations in the comments below. I want to hear it.
What we do need, however, is something just as good as diamond, but in a different way. If the sword was only as damaging as a stone sword, but could shoot beams when you attack with it it would be just as useful as a diamond sword. In fact, it would be much better than a sword that undermines everything else in the game because it allows you to choose from a wider variety of weapons and tactics.

That's the approach I'd prefer as well. But I doubt we will ever be getting anything like that. And even if we do, diamond tier stuff will render it all useless on singleplayer. Because Minecraft is basically about tiering and lacks weapon variety, fixing it would call for some radical changes which many would hate. Although I wouldn't be among these haters as I love balance, I certainly don't want a billion anti balance threads. Unless these new weapons were implemented purely for server kits, they would be devalued, and thus a legendary sword is a logical solution to having no good end reward.I could also see if all these hypothetical weapons were +6 and diamond is only there to be the best melee weapon, that could work.
Also, if there were to be more weapons, there should be dungeon loot exlusive ones anyway. Mojang has stated in the past they wanted to add special weapons to dungeon loot, and it would be nice if some were at the END of a dungeon. That was the core inspiration of the idea. Thanks for the ideas. (I guess +6 or +7 might work better)
Not like a beacon beam, but like a crescent moon shaped swirling shot of energy fired as a projectile. Does the same amount of damage as the melee attack from the sword, just ranged.
Any type of "endgame" weapon in a sandbox that never ends is pretty much always a bad idea.
It's a well explained suggestion, but I'm not seeing any good reasons for adding such a thing. I have no idea why you would ever mention "bragging rights" because that's just so goofy, subjective and meaningless (and I'd cut back on the "swag" stuff, that word/meme/whatever died out in like 2013).
Diamond swords are extremely powerful and we really don't need anything above that. "Dark Steve" sounds extremely exploitable, in fact, I don't think Mojang would ever add a on-the-ground boss because of how easy you could could farm or camp it. I also don't understand the significance of a sword being pre-named.

We don't actually "need" that, you just want it. Having something "equal" to a diamond sword is even more pointless than the suggestion above, because it comes out to being an infamous "Less X, but more Y" suggestion. Overall, I see no good reason at all to add another tier of swords in the game.
No support.
Edit: Also, weapons with pre-enchantments is also a bad idea.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
It would be bad to have something that does let's say, 1000 damage like in OP mods BUT it would be an epic idea for something just that bit stronger than a diamond sword also when you said that you would have to fight a dark version of you that's a good idea but since everyone wants herobrine to be real so much you should battle herobrine instead. Just mah opinion.i like e idea but not too OP ok.

Umm, you literally gave no support to this statement. It can be a good idea. A final goal once your world is so automated that playing has become pointless is a great thing, and the dungeon is hard enough to compensate for the weapon being good.

Bragging rights- ender dragon egg: pointless as hell. even in 1.9.
Bragging rights AND cool because of its viability: Final sword. People love sword beams and super weapons, and lovecombat variety. Especially when balanced.

No, only one per dungeon and these things don't drop much, and let's not forget how terrifyingly powerful they are. Maybe if hit by lava, they would even teleport you to it. Or are fire resistence. Maybe when drowning...it can't drown or sufficate. Also, the sword is like an Excalibur AND the name is up for discussion. Also, we are polling whether or not the sword will even be better than diamond in terms of +damage.

Since there was a subquote I'm going to use context. We don't NEED more weapons. We don't need anything, Minecraft doesn't NEED to update, either. But I think, and many others think it would be for the best to add more variety. And that's the main point of this suggestion: diversifying gameplay which is a must for any good PVP system. And giving incentive to play a save all the way through.
No support.
Edit: Also, weapons with pre-enchantments is also a bad idea.
I don't think a weapon would be a nice loot for a dungeon. First of all, diamond is good enough for battle. Second, enchantments are already op in SP. And third, where would you use that type of super weapon? You already defeated the "super boss". It's like adventuring for a piece of rock from the moon, then after getting it you actually realize that it doesn't really have any use. No one, to share your achievement with. Nothing.
I think a boss loot for an open-world sandbox game like MC should something you can actually use in your everyday adventures in the game. Not something you can only use when your faced with danger. Or maybe something fun, like hatching the dragon egg into a baby ender dragon that follows you around and defends you from attackers, like dogs. I think people would like that. It doesn't have to be rideable, it doesn't have to grow. It just has to be fun.
I appreciate that you went into the trouble of actually balancing the sword so that it won't replace the diamond sword, but if it won't replace the diamond sword then why even bother with it? It's in a far away dungeon that is unnecessarily hard and you get an alternative diamond sword.

That's the bane of having the best stuff: Having nothing to use it on. That's always an issue. I don't think there would be many if any bosses after this, but it well help you slay ordinary mobs with relative ease. And get some more nether stars.
You do have a good point about how it should be something that helps you play the game. But if it is the best weapon and has ranged, it will make it possible to figth ghasts without arrows, cut through large rows of enemies (as the projectile fades after a while but does not stop when it hits a mob), getting that annoying skeleton, and serving as a multi purpose weapon which only takes up one inventory slot.
As you said, It would not necesarily eliminate diamond swords. Even if it was better or on par, your old diamond sword was probably super enchanted already, so it will be better for a while. Also, if it does eliminate the diamond weapons, diamonds will still be important for gear. And stone does make wood swords uselesss, no? By the same means, ya know.
The sword's damage value is up to debate, I think +6/7 would prove it to be a viable weapon worth the fight.
Btw the pic below is what it could look like
Herobrine is a boss in the sky dimension which you need both versions of the sword to access. But that's a whole nether story. XD
I have a MC world with enchanted armor and weapons. And honestly, I don't need much anymore. I have a huge wolf pack, a few cats, and a horse. The only thing that can kill me is fall damage. If I acquired the sword I already conquered the Nether without it, conquered the End without it, where would you use it next? In the overworld? You can kill a creeper in one shot with the enchanted diamond sword you used to kill the superboss. It's something like being given free stuff when you're already a movie star.

Every Final Fantasy game ever. XD
But seriously, I'd think the sky dimension might actually be an interesting sub idea. People have undeniably wanted it for a while and a bottomless pit sky island chain dimesnion would add so much potential and variety to minecraft! A postgame dimension where the elytra would work better. And the sword would strike down the many airborne targets with its beams. And I'm serious about this whole Herobrine in a dark stormy palace biome as the final superboss. That would be the greatest ending ever, and the community would agree with it.

I wonder, have you been following the changelogs for 1.9?
Try this - download the latest 1.9 snapshot and while on Normal difficulty enchant a full set of diamond armor with Protection IV, then put it on and spawn a creeper in a 1x1 hole in the ground (to ensure a point-blank hit), then jump in; *Hydraheads was blown up by creeper*. Diamond armor so good now? I consider it to be totally useless now if you have to play on Easy or mod the game to ensure that a common mob can't kill you in one hit - in fact, even on Easy you lose nearly all of your health in unenchanted armor - more than you would on Hard before 1.9. See the Wiki for why this is (protection now decreases with increasing damage; every 2 points of damage effectively removes one armor point - and each armor point is now 3.3% damage reduction (down from 4%), making diamond armor barely better than iron before 1.9 - with a minimal level of damage taken; against a creeper it is actually worse than leather used to be, even on Easy (not kidding - 25 damage takes off 12.5 armor points, leaving you with 7.5, or 25% damage reduction; leather had 28% damage reduction prior to 1.9), and on Normal-Hard it might as well not exist. Also, you can regenerate health much faster now, (2x faster than pre-1.9 Peaceful) making it much easier to simply outregenerate weaker attacks, including Wither, Poison, and fire damage, without armor).
Also, a Sharpness V diamond sword now deals only 10 attack damage, just two more than an unenchanted sword prior to 1.9 (which was added to your unarmed damage for a total of 8, and 14.25 with Sharpness V; 1.9 removed this mechanic, which had been added in 1.6), and only if used less than once every 0.63 seconds. Nobody's going to use it for sure now (besides the fact that anvil changes in 1.8 made Sharpness V much more expensive to have). Luckily they did not nerf bows (yet) so you can still use your Power V bow to deal up to 25 points of damage, making it the ideal weapon now (swords are now basically short-range bows with weaker damage thanks to the cooldown. Even without enchantments bows deal 9-10 damage - about as much as a Sharpness V diamond sword).
In other words, the changes to armor (in particular) and weapons in 1.9 have really opened up the possibility for stronger than diamond tier armor and weapons - say, armor or weapons that are as powerful as diamond used to be before 1.9, don't lose protection against stronger attacks, etc.
Umm, you literally gave no support to this statement. It can be a good idea. A final goal once your world is so automated that playing has become pointless is a great thing, and the dungeon is hard enough to compensate for the weapon being good.
You're using the "once you get here, you'll already have this, this and this!" statement. This is something even the suggestion guide mentions. Not all players play the same, not everyone takes their time and loads up on resources and makes some autonomous world, some do everything in their power to rush to the Enderdragon without spending too much time with loading up on stuff.
Yes, it can take a long time to get to The End, but not everyone has a farm that takes up a whole biome by the time we get there. It varies.
Bragging rights- ender dragon egg: pointless as hell. even in 1.9.
But the dragon egg isn't some overpowered weapon with pre-enchantments.
Bragging rights AND cool because of its viability: Final sword. People love sword beams and super weapons, and lovecombat variety. Especially when balanced.
Alright, look. Can we just drop the "bragging rights" as a pro-point for this suggestion? It's just meaningless. It's just a sword. Everything spoken in this quote is both subjective and does not help the integrity of the suggestion. So the sword is cool? Okay, you may think that, but not every player will. You are honestly saying more and more things the suggestion guide tells you not to say. I can quote those entries from the guide if you don't believe me.
People love a lot of things. People think a lot of things are cool, that doesn't mean it's Minecraft material.
No, only one per dungeon and these things don't drop much, and let's not forget how terrifyingly powerful they are. Maybe if hit by lava, they would even teleport you to it. Or are fire resistence. In a game where you can manipulate the very shape of the world at your will, it's not hard to exploit a ground mob. Then again, yes, this Dark Steve could just be reworked to be not-so-exploitable so I won't dwell on that too much.
Since there was a subquote I'm going to use context. We don't NEED more weapons. We don't need anything, Minecraft doesn't NEED to update, either. There's a catch to the whole "variety" thing. "More" does not always equal "better". And I say that we don't need more swords because the swords we have now cover the weak-to-strong range already, and enchantments and potions help that even more. On paper +8 doesn't sound like much because it's just plus 1 from diamond, but it all adds up in the end when you hit something over and over.
Nobody even suggested that.
What I mean by pre-enchantment is a sword that has a built-in power.

Making something rare doesn't exactly mean that it is end game level. In fact, Minecraft is a sandbox, so it means that there is really no end game, as you can still keep playing. Of course, as a sandbox, an end game could be anything.
However, this sword is overpowered. You may argue that the sword beam can only be used every few seconds, the durability increases as it is technically a new tier, and the damage is only an extra point.
But the damage adds up in the end. The sword beam damaging the player doesn't balance it out as the player can still very easily use potions in conjunction with the sword. Using the beam with a cooldown is more balanced than depleting health, but still unbalanced as using it then switching over to a sharpness five diamond sword can easily damage the player. The strength bar's cooldown won't move over to another weapon or tool as far as I know. The durability increase also makes it unbalanced because it can last quite a long time.
Forgive me for saying this, but your post is kind of ignorant. It is not necessarily even at diamond's level. We have been actively discussing its power level and +8 is just a placeholder and the highest potential value. Basically your entire post is talking about that one fact which isn't even decided, and has clearly stated to be subject to change, so I can't really elaborate further. I personally feel +6 is the best value and if you want me to change the OP I will.
I wonder, have you been following the changelogs for 1.9?

Yep, I have. And I noticed that too. New armor wouldn't be a terrible thing either provided it had some drawback such as lowering movement speed. And weapons need more combat variety so you can use things even when your strength bar is low, which are not so much. power orietned as effect oriented. Even more reason to have another tier. Whether it be stronger, or just different.
A weapon more powerful than the diamond sword that shoots beams would make the game too easy. Plus, I see lots of pointless stuff in here, such as the ender compass, why do you need a super rare dungeon that has a special item just to help you find another dungeon? And, why fight through all those floors if you were able to just build up. And finally, we really don't need a 2nd boss in the End.
Oh, and about the sky dimension with Herobrine as the boss you were mentioning in your comments.... no.
You probably clicked this thread expecting a "Mojang please add an OP God weapon to the game!". That is not what I'm going for. When people talk about the best stuff in Minecraft, they obviously say the diamond tier. Which is precisely how it is and should be. At least in terms of armor. Dark Steve:
HP: 400

It fights like a normal player only can teleport around and shoot dark sword beams using the dark version of the ultimate sword, carefully staying a favorable distance because it has a ranged projectile..
We don't need anything superior to diamond.
What do you mean by beams?

Interesting stuff going on here..!
Btw the pic below is what it could look like
Responses in bold.
Thank you.

Herobrine is a boss in the sky dimension which you need both versions of the sword to access. But that's a whole nether story. XD
I take it you are supporting this, so thank you.

That would be the greatest ending ever, and the community would agree with it.
ok
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
You're using the "once you get here, you'll already have this, this and this!" statement. This is something even the suggestion guide mentions. Not all players play the same, not everyone takes their time and loads up on resources and makes some autonomous world, some do everything in their power to rush to the Enderdragon without spending too much time with loading up on stuff.
Yes, it can take a long time to get to The End, but not everyone has a farm that takes up a whole biome by the time we get there. It varies.
But the dragon egg isn't some overpowered weapon with pre-enchantments.
In a game where you can manipulate the very shape of the world at your will, it's not hard to exploit a ground mob. Then again, yes, this Dark Steve could just be reworked to be not-so-exploitable so I won't dwell on that too much.
What I mean by pre-enchantment is a sword that has a built-in power.

Nice idea!

hope it gets added!

Oh, and about the sky dimension with Herobrine as the boss you were mentioning in your comments.... no.
