As a player since beta, no thank you. My rewards for supporting the game are:
1. I got the game at a pretty substantial discount
2. Extra years of playing over people who bought the game recently or after 1.0
3. Lots of friends I have made and my fiance, none of which I would have met if not for the game.
As for the MineCon thing, you are right and that sucks. But that is just how it is, when 70% of your player base is in the US, Canada, and western Europe, it wouldn't make sense to hold a convention somewhere that isn't accessible to most of your fanbase. That said, they could sell an alternative Minecon cape every year for part of the cost of a ticket. One for people attending and one for people who can't but want a cape.

Nope. Ultra Mega Super No-Erasees Nope. Terrible idea.
This enforces senesless I-played-by-this-date elitism. Who gives a hell when someone started playing the game? There's no need to pointlessly reward someone for playing the game longer than most. Saying "well some of us aren't gonna go to Minecon and get a cape" is like saying "well some of us aren't gonna become good as at nascar and win first place race trophies."
Capes are special things not to be handed out for small, useless things. Being a "veteran player" is meaningless. Okay there's Optifine donation capes, but only those who donated can see each other's capes.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
If anything, veteran capes should only be available to those who made an account before Indev.
Those are the true veteran players, and it wouldn't devalue capes as there are very few players from back then.
Well, hmmmm. Since you put it th- Nope, the idea is still painfully awful. You're still putting unnecessary value on those who played the game before a certain time. Which will probably spark up a neverending rage-barrage of "what about alpha players?! what about beta players?!"
I mean, someone who thought up Zombie Pigmen had their cape taken away because so many people kept begging "can i get 1 now?!?!?!?!" Yeah. No.

Of course it's not really that good of an idea, but pre-Indev players did support the game back when it truly needed it the most, so I see that those are the only people truly worthy of a veteran cape. We already have a neverending rage-barrage of "what about alpha players?! what about beta players?!" every time capes are on the topic, so I hardly find that much of a con.

In this case, it was a personified cape for that single person, which is quite different from a cape given to a group of players. But again, people are already acting like you just murdered their family and now they're suing you for a cape, so it's not like this would be much of a new thing.
But yes, veteran capes are in general not a good idea, and I hardly see much reason in getting a cape for playing a popular game that just so happened to be in development phases. Pre-indev is the only time which feels even remotely worthy of a cape.
Why not add veteran Capes? it shows how long and dedicated people are to the game… Maybe people that have played 3-5 years should get one?
And MineCon capes, its unfair for pretty much all minecraft players since most of us will have MineCon at least 3 continents away...
When would it come to NZ or AUS? like 500000 years?
most of us will never even get MineCon near us so it would be more fair to have veteran capes...
Also the noobs can't call the long time players 'noobs'...

People from those countries have already had their chances to get a cape...
But that idea of also getting a cape for half the cost is pretty good...
Still i prefer veteran capes
