todays vanilla mine craft oceans are boring and have not changed since they were first added... I came up with a few possible ideas that I thought could be great fun to get players out into that huge part of the map left unexplored.
Sea Merchants!
-Similar to villagers but have slightly different clothing and trade same things with sharks teeth and coral for trade aswell. Spawns with 4 merchants with a village centre located on the ship (a village can be expanded from there) and the merchants will breed like villagers but rely on trades rather than food to breed and be willing. Special Jeb designed merchant boats, ender ship design? Spawn as regularly as regular villages in ocean and deep ocean biomes
Reef Biome!
made of stone and sandstone with new coral blocks and the rare sponge fragment (need 4 to make a full sponge) coral blocks are coloured sponge looking blocks with plantable seaweed, only underwater and placable coral pieces, either craft the blocks with them or decorate your oceans! Spawn between y:60 and the preset seabed of the ocean or coast biome it spawns in. Comes in large clumps of rough block placement peaking just below sea level. Zombie villagers cannot be cured into merchants.
Shark Mob!
new hostile mob native to deep ocean and new reef biome. Only target if you go too close, around 16 blocks and will swim towards you at spider speed dealing 3 hearts base damage on normal, 4 on hard and 2 on easy. Drop sharks teeth and the occasional fish and 5 xp upon death.
pontoon blocks!
Ever wanted to place a block at the top of the water but can't be bothered pillaring all the way up? Place a pontoon block thy acts oppositely to sand and gravel blocks in water and floats upwards!!! Carries entities with it and can be found in shipwrecks or above shipwrecks (suggest a crafting recipe) items can be placed inside to control depth it sits at. More entities weigh it down in its inventory slot so you can control its height too. Placing a redstone block within its inventory (redstone block does not alter its weight) will cause it to become a powered block. Hoppers can be used to place a redstone block inside to power it automatically.
Deep sea trenches!
open ravine style cave systems but without branching caves, just small dug outs, overhangs, coral and seaweed with rough stone edges.
Spike blocks!
crafted with red stone, iron and shark teeth. Can be powered to extend spikes out that can be retracted. Great for defence, hurt mobs and destroy entities. Functions underwater and on land.
Spears!
Crafted by sticks and shark teeth with extra reach compared to swords and fast attacking underwater (other tools are slower to attack and weaker underwater now) shark tooth spears are a preferable tool to use when underwater and will deal 6 base damage (equal to 1.8 iron sword) and in influenced by water debuffs.
Ice Bergs!
Ice islands spawn in the middle of vast oceans (sllightly less Rare as mushroom islands?) made of packed ice and ice with snow and naturally spawning and hostile snow golems (don't do any damage, just throw snowballs so far) Provides an alternative to ice spikes biomes for compressed ice.
Shipwrecks!
Same design as the merchant ships but broken and underwater. Generate in reef biomes and rarely Ocean and deep ocean next to islands. Contain merchant treasures like emeralds and basic armours, enchanted books And ingots (essentially temple and dungeon loot) aswell as coral blocks and corals. shipwrecks do not provide a village area for merchant spawning. Chests are buried within the wreckage. Will spawn in replace my for a failed merchant village spawn.
Better Boats!
Iinventory space, reinforced, coloured by wood type, don't pop when you brush a lily pad! Simple improvement to boats for ocean transport.
Minor Tweaks
-Tools besides the spear mine slower and do less damage under water
-Air bubbles don't instantly return from an air pocket, rejuvenate 2.5 every second?
todays vanilla mine craft oceans are boring and have not changed since they were first added... What about Water Temples, Guardians, and 2 new fish items? Time for a touch up
Sea Merchants!
-Similar to villagers but have slightly different clothing and trade same things, but perhaps a few new things? Special Jeb designed merchant boats, ender ship design? Are static This is a little interesting, and has potential, but it's vague, please elaborate. Perhaps there could also be a new type of Village, aside from the ones in the Plains and Desert.
Reef Biome!
made of stone and limestone with new coral blocks and the rare sponge fragment (need 4 to make a full sponge) coral blocks are coloured sponge looking blocks with plantable seaweed, only underwater and placable coral pieces, either craft the blocks with them or decorate your oceans! This is vague as well, you haven't told us percentages or where they specifically spawn (in clumps, in a certain level, etc.?) I also don't prefer to have Sponge pieces, regardless of how rare they are. They're better off being obtainable from Water Temples and Guardians.
Shark Mob!
new hostile mob native to deep ocean and new reef biome. Only target if you go too close. Drop sharks teeth Still vague. Health, damage, radius, etc?
pontoon blocks!
More entities weigh it down in its inventory slot so you can control its height too Sounds quite useful, could this also have an effect on Redstone as well?
Deep sea trenches!
open ravine style cave systems but without branching caves, just overhangs coral and seaweed, with exposed ore So long as the ore remain with the same levels they spawn as.
Spike blocks!
crafted with red stone, iron and shark teeth. Can be powered to extend spikes out that can be retracted. Great for defence, hurt mobs and destroy enitities Has potential for it. But would this only work in water or also out of water? Is this a solid block or can you go through it (Like Grass or Torches)?
Spears!
Crafted by sticks and shark teeth or the generic items (iron, wood, etc) extra reach compared to swords and fast attacking underwater (other tools are slower to attack and weaker underwater now) shark tooth spears are stronger than diamond but less durable This seems to be the case of "Less X, More Y" as it has extra reach and faster attack. Another thing is that it's as strong as diamond, which is a problem. Anything that is as strong as diamond or more stronger than it, isn't a good idea, as Diamond is supposed to be the strongest and most fit tier to use. Though perhaps there is some possibilty for it, as only being used for underwater purposes (such as breaking blocks under water or attacking faster under water) though then this might make it more of a mutli-purpose tool to use underwater, and that it would be redundant as there are existing enchantments to solve problems. So I don't think this Spear is as of a good idea than it is.
Ice Bergs!
Ice islands spawn in the middle of vast oceans (sllightly less Rare as mushroom islands?) made of packed ice and ice with snow and naturally spawning and hostile snow golems (don't do any damage, just throw snowballs so far) Has potential, and can be used as another way to obtain Packed Ice.
Shipwrecks!
Same design as the merchant ships but broken and underwater. Generate in reef biomes and rarely Ocean and deep ocean next to islands. Contain merchant treasures like emeralds and other ores. Has some potential, but is still vague, what is the percentage of it spawnining, what goods does it contain, etc?
Better Boats!
Larger, invenyory space, reinforced, coloured by wood type, don't pop when you brush a lily pad! This would seem more of a upgrade of the Boat, which is quite redundant. Another thing is that it's larger, stronger, and that it holds inventory space. I don't really prefer this, as it will make the original Boats less useful with this around.
Responses in bold. Overall, some of these ideas are interesting and have potential, but the others won't really make it, with the reasonings I added in the quote. Another thing is, is that this is very vague, and requires more information. Please elaborate.

Minimal support.
I tried to elaborate on the ideas, as for the % spawn rates, I'm not great at that so I tried to compare to current rates. Thanks for your feedback
ive noticed other people have had some of these ideas before me, such as the merchant and of course, sharks from mo creatures. I had not seen these ideas from those people before but they are definitely possibilities to make the game and or the oceans a lot more fun.
Support from an ocean enthusiast. I absolutely love the pontoon idea. If the boats were to somehow break, what kind of wood would they drop? Currently it is set to drop oak regardless of the original.
The new boats in the snapshots have a huge durability and I do beleive they drop the same type of wood as they are made with. I don't know if I should remove that suggestion given we have already sort of got it
