How about steam engines. Maybe a cauldron and furnace, with some additional stuff. Red stone is nice, but there seems to be a skip between early iron age and electronic age. Just a thought. It would make for some interesting elevators, and locomotion.
My intention was to be vague, I'm new to the game. I think that steam power is a natural, but as far as crafting it, I guess I'm just not familiar enough with the game's mechanics to offer much. It would need a boiler, perhaps crafted on a crafting table using a cauldron and iron ingots (2-4 maybe in addition to the cauldron). A furnace would be used for heat, by placing the modified cauldron in the top box of the furnace. If this were assembled in a mine cart then you would have locomotion. The same assembly could power a winch, for a mine elevator, but that would entail crafting rope, and the winch mechanism.
It all seems a little simple to me, I am not sure how to make it more difficult to build. Perhaps reliability could be an issue, certainly it would need to be fed constantly, and someone depending on a mine elevator to work, then finding that the steam engine on the ground above the mine is out of coal would not be having a good day.

It really doesn't matter. Vague suggestions get less to no supporters then fully detailed suggestions do. If you tell us what a suggestion is, and how you do what with it, you get some support. If you don't, you get no support. What I said is as simple as that.

Yes, that. People don't know what you're suggesting, so they aren't going to support something if they don't know what it is.

Never, ever, ever be vague on purpose. You are setting your suggestion up to fail by doing that.
I don't understand the point of your idea. If we have one efficient method of power, we don't need a second one just for the sake of it.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
What about my Steam Advantage mod? (It is an add-on to the Power Advantage API)
Steam Advantage doesn't have steam-trains, but it does have coal-fired boilers, blast furnaces, steam drills, and even a steam-powered elevator.

I always wanted to be able to advance technologically. Redstone is really powerful, but mixing Redstone with Steam, you could make some really cool steampunk style stuff.
I give Partial support for this.
Please elaborate properly on this suggestion.
Such as how you use the steam power, what you can build, how much it costs, what advantages and disadvantages it has with Redstone, what it does, etc.

My apologies, I guess that I misunderstood the suggestions forum. My intention was to start a discussion on steam power, which, in retrospect, might have been better in another forum section. I'm new, so a lot of game mechanics are a little alien to me. This comment by Gurluas was more what I had in mind. Input from others, that is. I see steam as being a step before red stone, it would have the disadvantage of having to be fed coal or wood. Unlike red stone it would generate rotational motion rather than linier motion. It would be pretty primitive, and could be used for simple things like winches of locomotion. Combining it with red stone could indeed provide some very interesting steam punk devices.
I see the engine itself as being crafted in sections on a crafting table, then assembled in place. Like a real engine, moving it would be a pain, since it would have to be broken down, and reassembled at the new location. Any suggestions as to cost? I think a furnace, and cauldron (modified into a boiler with the addition of iron, maybe 4 ingots, as well as a flywheel (made of iron maybe 10 ingots would be good). placing everything in the right positions would make a steam engine which sat and turned as long as fuel was in the furnace. It would do nothing unless something was attached to it like a winch, which would be another new thing.

While this sounds interesting, this is also vague.
A vague suggestion is a suggestion without enough information, like how would we get/craft these steam engines, etc.
This thread should be helpful.

I personally see no need for the Polar Express in Minecraft.

Yeah, you should try it, it doesn't have trains, but with it, I made a whole factory! Even a quarry!

Sounds good, but I am on PS3 edition.
