Shattering would be a pickaxe and axe enchantment with the same rarity and level requirements as Silk Touch. The two would never be on the same tool. Shattering and Fortune would also never be in the same tool.
Its effects:
Pickaxe:
A Shattering pick would drop different items when mining blocks:
Cobblestone and Stone would drop 1-2 gravel
Sandstone would drop 3-4 Sand
Bricks would drop 4 bricks
Nether Bricks would drop 4 Nether Brick items
Polished stones would drop their unpolished variants
Stone Bricks of all types would drop Cracked Stone Bricks
Mineral blocks and Quartz blocks would drop the items they were made from (9 diamonds from a diamond block, 4 quartz from a quartz block, etc.)
Prismarine of any type would drop 3-4 Prismarine Shards
Purpur Blocks would drop 3-4 Popped Chorus Fruit
Anvils would be broken by one stage when being mined
Iron Doors would drop 1-2 iron ingots
Iron Trapdoors will drop 3-4 Iron Ingots
Rails will drop a Stick
Dispensers will drop a randomly damaged bow
Stairs would always drop 2 items instead of 3 or 4
Axe:
Log blocks would drop 3-4 Planks of the same type
Planks would drop 2 Sticks
Chests will drop 6-7 Oak Planks
Crafting Tables will drop 3-4 Oak Planks
Wood Slabs and Stairs would drop a stick
Daylight Sensors will drop 2-3 Quartz
Fences and Fence Gates will drop 2 sticks
Jukeboxes will drop a Diamond
Pumpkins will drop 1-2 seeds
Jack-O-Lanterns will drop a torch
A tool with Shattering will deal double damage to any shield it hits. Axes also disable shields for 6 seconds instead of 5. A Shattering tool has its cooldown time increased by 40%.
This idea definitely has tons of potential. A good way to make uncraft ing items possible, in my opinion. This would definitely be an enchantment I would strive to get on a pickaxe in a singleplayer world.

This enchantment would be very interesting, as well as very useful for wood farms. A good way to get blocks and items like planks, gravel, etc. without having to craft and without being too powerful, since you don't get back all the materials used to make blocks like stairs, rails, etc. It would be a neat way to refund items, without getting everything back. It was also a good idea not to make it combinable with Fortune or Silk Touch. Support.
I can't say I'd be on board for anything that just disables your shields outright. And it's kind of awkward for something other than a sword to do damage a shield that much, because that adds tedium as you're going back and forth between weapons for different reasons. This would also only have use in multiplayer.
Though I do find the block shattering thing pretty wicked awesome. 75% support.

You're using a logical fallacy. "We might as well have this, since we already have this." doesn't mean or prove anything. This is even mentioned in the suggestion guide. The peanut butter existing doesn't mean it's set-in-stone for the jelly to be there too.
Why? Just pick a weapon and stick with it.
Circular logic. I don't think you're getting what I'm saying... You have the optimal damage-doing weapon which is the sword, and then you have this enchantment doing extra to shields that isn't capable with a sword. Why not just have that on the sword, otherwise you got some serious headache hotbar weapon switching to combine the two effective weapons.
Its main purpose is block shattering, not combat.
Then why is the shield stuff even there..? The statements you used seem to be on both sides of the fence at once. Also, the shield stuff has a use only in multiplayer.

Why not just have that on the sword, otherwise you got some serious headache hotbar weapon switching to combine the two effective weapons. The sword doesn't even deal the most damage anymore... that's the Axe (correct me if i'm wrong) , which can get the enchantment. And it's an enchantment, is it really that important?
Then why is the shield stuff even there..? The statements you used seem to be on both sides of the fence at once. Because I had this idea where you can use an enchantment to break up blocks, then I thought, if it can break up blocks, why can't it break up other things?
When I saw the title, I was worried that this would be all about smashing shields... I'm glad I was wrong. I find that this enchantment suggestion is very unique, as it allows players to "uncraft" certain blocks... I also like the idea of making pickaxes better weapons... Full support.
So basically, an enchantment to break down certain blocks into their components when mined. (And a way to make Gravel renewable!)
A couple of those amounts could afford to be changed in consideration of the costs to craft the items (the iron door recipe is 6 ingots to make 3 doors, so breaking an iron door should only produce 2 iron ingots).
But otherwise? Amazing idea. I'll have to SUPPORT this.

The peanut butter existing doesn't mean it's set-in-stone for the jelly to be there too. The suggestions guide isn't set in stone either. Theraises isn't god, nor even a moderator. Personally, I disagree with almost everything said in it. I think that signing my posts isn't a bad thing, and just because Theraises said so doesn't mean it's against any rules. I specifically disagree with this fallacy. Of course it's important if other stuff in the game back up a new addition. Especially since he wasn't using it as original evidence, just as a reply to your lack of information on 1.9. It wouldn't work if picks weren't being made a weapon, but it does since they are. That's what he was pointing out. To refrain from doing so due to Theraises thread would border on idiocy, in my opinion.

Why not just have that on the sword, otherwise you got some serious headache hotbar weapon switching to combine the two effective weapons. You already have to weapon switch with what's coming in 1.9. As a matter of fact, it was already a tactic before 1.9, because of the knockback on axes. This is more about you problems with 1.9 combat, and less about this thread (I agree with most of what you're saying, just not its relation to this thread).
Then why is the shield stuff even there..? The statements you used seem to be on both sides of the fence at once. Also, the shield stuff has a use only in multiplayer. Why wouldn't it be there? And what's wrong with something only being useful in multiplayer? There's about a million things that are only useful in multiplayer, and this isn't even one of them since the rest of the enchantment helps in SP! Now, if you're talking about one enchant doing 2 things at once, that I might be able to agree about. 1 or the other might be better, or 2 separate enchants (or not, just musing).

Why wouldn't it be there? And what's wrong with something only being useful in multiplayer?
Because it would just be a bunch of code uselessly sitting there in singleplayer. Something being useful in only multiplayer isn't the worst thing ever, but if you make a suggestion way too situational, it dampens the integrity of it. What's better, an enchantment useful in all gamemode or just multiplayer? Why not go for the full thing?
No, the suggestion guide isn't set in stone (though some of it might as well be), and I don't see why you disagree with most of that guide. Do you disagree with what it tells us? How it's presented? Or both? All of the "don't do this" entries are explained with solid reasoning. It's extremely rare that I see one of them get removed.
As for the points on axes disabling shields and having to weapon switch. You guys got me there. In fact, that convinced me to go from 75% to 100% support, and that's not something that's easily done.

You and OP proved me wrong on this exact idea being useful in more than multiplayer, but as for the argument itself... I don't see why it's baffling. Having an idea PvP/mutliplayer can feel like just half of an idea. When you make an idea for singleplayer as well, the appeal of the idea pretty much doubles, and then it has much more reason to exist.
It's like being charitable and giving a homeless person a sandwich you don't want anymore, but for some strange reason, you tear it in half and throw one half in the trash for no reason. Did you feed an unfortunate person? Yeah, but you could've given him more at almost no extra cost...

Theriasis is a girl, not a "he". You do understand that the guide is not 100% a hatey-vent thread, right? It's mostly satirical just for the sake of making it more interesting (as it would be horribly boring otherwise). I wouldn't say the guide is fully biased or one-sided, as some of the "excuse" or "presentations" have some forgiveness in them, and some are even displayed as somewhat valid excuses. Same goes for the "inferior suggestions".

I can promise you that if my guide had no exaggerations like what it has now, it would be like reading a long boring MOTD you see on any game server. People seem to pay more attention to my examples that involve spiraled-out negativity than dull positive ones. A lot of people found the guide hilarious because of that, which is the entire point of the exaggerations anyway.
