The ocean is lacking. It has been for a very very long time. Really the only thing to do in it is raid ocean monuments which give gold, prismarine, and sponges. Those items aren't exactly the most useful things. So this is my suggestion to make the ocean a little bit more "active". The Ocean Glider!
Appearance
A large blue slug-like creature with neon lines going down its back and two pairs of large blue and white sails. The second pair of sails is much smaller than the first. They are based on the real life "Sea Swallow" as seen here:
Stats
Health Points: 40 (20 hearts)
Armor Points: 0
Attack Strength: Easy: 3 (1.5 hearts)
Normal: 5 (2.5 hearts)
Hard: 8 (4 hearts)
Height: 1.5 Blocks
Length: 13 Blocks
Width: 8 Blocks
Spawning
Ocean Gliders spawn alone in any Deep Ocean biome during night-time 3-10 blocks beneath sea level. They require water to spawn, and will not spawn if another Ocean Glider is within 30 blocks.
Behaviour
They swim at a slow constant speed in the water, normally staying at the same level in the water. Every so often they will flap their sails, first flapping the pair in the front, and shortly after flapping the ones in the back. They will swim upwards or downwards and turn to avoid blocks or chase players that angered them, showing a slight tilt and bend when doing so. Occasionally but not all the time an Ocean Glider will attack a squid. When out of the water, they will use their sails to crawl towards the nearest water source at an incredibly slow pace. After a while they will begin to drown.
Combat
They only attack players that have damaged them, but will give Poison II for five seconds to the player or any mob if they get close to the back end of the mob. When attacking, they will swim towards the enemy in a straight line, turning and adjusting itself with the players movement. Whenever it is attacked, it has a small chance to be still for a small amount of time and excrete a dark blue gas that gives any mob in it Poison, Nausea, and Slowness, as long as they are in the gas.

1-3 Gas Sacs
0-2 Raw Fish
10 Experience
Gas Sacs
These can be put in a dispenser or crafted with a bottle to make a throwable weapon that creates the same gas the Ocean Glider creates. The gas will spread farther, faster, and last longer in water, and on land will only produce a small cloud that slowly drifts upwards. Gas Sacs can also be used as an alternative to lapis lazuli in dye, wool, and hardened clay crafting.
Other
Guardians will attack these along with squids. Ocean Gliders also hate lilypads, and will eat them.
I like the idea. There is a couple things I'd change though.
First, it seems a little too complex. With the way it moves and the way the child hides, just doesn't really fit. The ideas are good, but I'd make it a little more simple.
Second, you shouldn't be able to tame the babies. That doesn't fit.
I have simplified it by removing the babies after thinking about it a bit and realizing they weren't really needed. And the way they move is so that they seem a bit more fluid because I want them to be smooth and gentle in their swimming.
The mob could just be a simple copy of the Sea Swallow. Player's don't often go to the ocean though so why not make it simple without much of the details.
Just found the multi-quote feature... Too late now The reason I wanted it s big is because I think it would be really cool to have this giant mob in the ocean that swims under your boat when your going somewhere, or just swimming past you when your swimming.
The mob could just be a simple copy of the Sea Swallow. Player's don't often go to the ocean though so why not make it simple without much of the details.
Good suggestions should be big. Otherwise it would be vague, and we do not like vague ideas.

When he said long and big I think he meant the actual mob not the idea Also the poison II will probably last around 5 seconds, I'll add it to the OP. And about the hardened clay and wool, you use it just like you would lapis lazuli, just replace the lapis lazuli in the recipe with the sacs.
