currently coarse dirt is simply used as a decorative block that looks like dirt but won't turn to grass, but this block can have a revolutionary new use that can effect the forgotten "trap" aspect of minecraft.
Coarse dirt ,logically, is the combination of gravel, a gravity block; and dirt a stiff block. What if coarse dirt would work like dirt in the sense that it doesn't fall but if an unsuspecting passenger walks over it, the CD immediately falls. If done right, you can "run" through a row of coarse dirt and not fall. If you sneak over coarse dirt, but the CD falls in 5 seconds. CD also redstone powers the blocks around it when stepped on. this can come in handy for secret entrances and stuff.
CD can be "shoveled" (right click with shovel) just like dirt this will lower the block by 1/8 and the color of the block would turn a notch grayer, it becomes Softened Coarse Dirt logically when you "shovel" a block you're making it softer and more sensitive to falling. It would now also falls if an arrow is fired at the block or an item is dropped on it, sneaking now wont change the falling time, and it gets a domino reaction effect it falls if a CD next to it has been activated, so hundreds of Softened CD can fall from one being powered
This isn't OP, besides CD looking different from real dirt, you cant die of fall damage when you fall with the coarse dirt, a new effect of coarse dirt would be that when you fall on it (5+blocks), your legs sink into the CD, to escape just jump or break the CD. This sinking effect would dwindle 60% of the fall damage. So unless its a drastically long height you wont die of fall damage. The "torch or slab" sand breaking trick doesn't work on CD. The block would just stay on top of the torch or slab.
Before I get to the side-ggestions I want to make something clear, a lot of you may be wondering if this same trap is possible as a redstone contraption. No, you can create "walk over and fall" effect but the contraption cant camouflage because its only possible with a piston head coming out and string being shown. Also the domino falling affect doesn't exist in minecraft in any way, YET. So in order for this trap to exist in minecraft this addition must be implemented.
Should other blocks also have these same properties.
