New Ideas? I got some!
>Potion of Vulnerability (made with a gold ingot with an akward potion) Base Time: 1:30 min (Can add redstone, glowstone, gunpowder and can be made lingering potion (a new type of potion added in 1.9 snapshots)) Color: Deep brown
-This Potion comes with a new effect: Vulnerability [duh..] (adds a 40% more damage to affected opponets)
-Logo: A peirced armour (aka a shield with a hole in the middle that has a sword in it)
(this effect will be cool with the Peirce enchant )
>New Enchant! : Team Defense! (Shift Right click an ally to give to the entire team Resistance for a radius of 10 Blocks of the giver of the effect) Cost:30 Levels+10 (Yup, It's costy because Resistance 2 is quite OP)
-Level 2 adds the fillowing:
~+5 block radius
~Rsistance 2
~Can recruit up to 4 allies (because level 1 let you only ally 2)
I guess that's pretty much it for today And also, Don't forget to reply!
I am just wondering If you made it or not (just asking,y'know)
Well as for the new enchant, I'm afraid that no matter the cost that's too OP to reasonably suggest and as for the potion, could be a pretty good idea it's just that this thread isn't as much about making gold useful, as making gold tools useful. Thanks though!
No, since I thought it'd be a little weird if I had two gold-themed threads active at the same time

Well... looks like this update is the worst I guess (I does make limitation) But IDK if it's my fault or not
Haha I think all I added was the note at the beginning yeah it was a pretty minuscule update

I have put too much effort on your thread that I have nothing to say...
looks like my job is done FTM
Hey Xsystem, 15w42a is out! But what's special about it is that it made renamed tools infinitely enchantable, Making Brocolli_Monkey's sugession somewhat redundant.
It did? That's awesome! Thanks for telling me, as I (as you might know) don't keep up to date with snapshots. However, I'll still keep it on until the update itself comes out as snapshots aren't final and are subject to change. Thanks for the heads up!

Actually, it didn't. Renaming items simply just doesn't increase repair cost.
Also, as for 1.9 armor system, the new "Mending" enchantment pretty much makes all tools last forever (Though it loses effectiveness the more items you have equipped with the enchantment) It's a neat enchantment and the way it works is pretty neat.
Essentially it takes your experience, and repairs items (I believe 1 exp = +2 durability. It seems to prioritize equipped armor before weapons/tools)
the issue with that and gold tools is your armor is getting repaired, but your sword will still eventually lose all it's durability since the armor is hogging all the exp. So I think a good/decent idea would to have mending's power be distributed more evenly on gold tools ( 1 exp = +1 durability on all golden equipment as opposed to +2 on one golden equipment at a time unless only 1 golden item has the mending enchantment )
I probably worded that extremely awkwardly, but hopefully you get the idea.
Edit: Also, Mending is a treasure enchantment, meaning it can ONLY be found wherever enchanted books can, you can not get it via enchantment table, so maybe make it to where golden tools can get it as a rare (As rare as fortune?) level 30 enchantment?
Well, I didn't see that point! Thx for pointing this out. And your Idea looks pretty cool.
You can keep the enchant Xsystem (As long as you like)
Hey Xsystem, I would now like to introduce a new category called (changing vanilla enchants) It will edit some enchants for gold tools (If by mods you can get the enchant from a gold tool and put it on anything else it will go back to it's vanilla form)
I Will start with:
>Fortune: You get 50-60% more stuff for every level (being Gold a vanity item)
So you will get:
70% Chance of get 2 stuff with Fortune 1 (using coal/diamond/emerald as an example)
60% Chance of getting 2 or 3 with Fortune 2
50% Chance of getting 2/3/4 With Fortune 3
>Looting (increase drop by 50% with every level/increase chance of dropping and item by 5% per level [instead of 1% per level])
That's basically it for this sugession. I hope you like it and don't forget to reply
I dunno, IRL, main gold uses are decoration, electronics and chemical catalyst. Having gold armor/tools only really fit for mounting/display always felt logical to me. Clocks, power rails are also consistent. Golden apples, melons, carrots fall into catalyst area.
I personally would love to see more uses for gold in decorative building. Gold railings, doors, slabs, stairs. Also, 8 redstone around gold bar = 8 superconducting redstone that does not lose signal. Maybe some other gold applications with redstone...
Hmmm, that would be cool. But keep in mind, IRL, diamonds are not used as combat items. Minecraft doesn't have to be realistic.
Actually, diamond impregnated tools are quite common. And then, you got carbon fiber, which gets its strength from about same carbon properties as diamond. Manufacturing stuff from actual diamond is simply not financially feasible. But carbon fiber body armor and weapon parts are widely in use. Sure Minecraft and reality are nowhere close, but still...
Does this is somewhere close to the thread...?
Sorry I've taken so long to respond! The most recent like, 10 posts all failed to send notifications to me
It's funny, I always thought that gold really shouldn't be a tool tier. I just figured this was a more professional way of getting around that than straight up removing it, as all I'd get then would be rage

I sort of have to agree with SkeletonGamer at this point, you're not off-TOPIC, it's just that you're going a little too far in depth about realism in general. I'd love to hear what you think gold should be used for, in more realistic fashions!

Hey Xsystem! did you read this quote? I didn't see your reply on it.
My bad Skeleton, sorry I didn't reply to it! Also sorry it took me so long to reply to this, my notifications really piled up and a bunch got pushed out. I had to check with my email notifications to find a bunch
Unfortunately, I don't think that how enchantments work would really allow that. But I guess just having higher enchant caps and the already existing higher enchantability would basically do the same thing, right?
Thanks again for your help and dedication SkeletonGamer!
