I think it would be a great upgrade to add a magic system to Minecraft. I think having scrolls or books of magic that you can find and learn and train your magic skills would be fun and would catch my interests in playing a more indepth game. A simple system would be good, nothing as complicated as Skyrim or AAA games, but just something simple and easy to use. Any suggestions or criticism from you guys and girls out there? I would love to hear it!
Realism? Nope. It's not really a genre, but definitely not realism.
Anyway, this has been suggested before, and disliked for a good reason. It just doesn't fit. Not because it's not realistic, but it's just no the theme of minecraft.Yeah, there's enchanting and potions, but those are different. Adding magical spells that you could use would make it feel more like a fantasy RPG where you're trying to level up to get better spells. That's not minecraft. Minecraft is about survival and exploration.

^ Thats what I meant. Thanks for clearing it up for me!!
Minecraft has always felt like a unfinished RPG/Adventure for me so I think this would be a great idea, except that I think it would be better if it was tied with enchanting not its own system like Redstone.
I wouldn't be adverse to a magic-themed villager. Maybe the cleric or some sort of hermit, who could heal you using magic particle effects, and target hostile mobs using some sort of destruction spell, like calling down lightning to incinerate a zombie.
We already kind of have magic in Minecraft; what with enchanted items that light things on fire, helmets that allow us to breath underwater, and guardians that shoot lasers from their eyes, we're up to our waists in raw, unrefined magick. However, the difference between Minecraft's magic system and, say, Skyrim's, is that it acts as an optional activity meant to amplify the main focuses; exploring and subjugating the land.
Exactly! Same here. I'm quickly bored with Minecraft for that reason. I'd just love to see something like that now the dual wielding thing has come out.
Well it's already kind of in there but it feels empty to me. Like what is the point of potions and enchantments if you can't shoot fire or ice from your hands lol. Idk just me I guess
So maybe no magic? But what about a staff? Since there is already and implied ranger class as well as warrior what about a Mage class? With staffs? I think that'd be cool. Opinions?
Obviously. Mushroom islands, biomes filled with gigantic ice spikes, undead monsters, red dust that carries power, potions, swords crafted with diamonds, explosion-proof volcanic glass, and enchantment tables are all completely realistic.
The fact is that Minecraft already has magic; redstone certainly appears to have magical properties, potions that allow you to become fireproof are definitely magical, volcanic glass (obsidian) would definitely have to have some sort of magic in order to not be obliterated by an explosion, and I'm pretty sure that enchantment tables are magical.
As for the suggestion itself, I wouldn't use any of the features, so I'm indifferent.
Some of you aren't understanding what I'm asking or what not but hey that's cool. I wasn't asking about some magic or magical properties. But that's cool. Thanks for the criticism.
Not sure where a moderator is, so I'll just ask here and hope a moderator sees it.
Okay, so, this is a suggestion for magic. But it doesn't have detail on what the magic should be. If I created my own post suggesting magic, but was totally different than this one, would it be considered redundant?
By the way, I'm not necessarily going to. This rule is just kind of confusing, and this seemed like a good time to ask.

I support! Great idea
Nahhh, We already have potions. We have levitation. Keep the magic to the maps and mods.
EDIT: Never mind this is not even worth my time. People arent worth my time.

No loafing.
Well, magic is kind of already in MC. Like potions, monsters, enchantments.
I have only conquered the End. Now I will conquer the world
Units! Onward to the rest of MineCraft!
