I know quite a bit of other people have posted about this but they are all suggesting crazy ideas about rings that would make a player really OP and rings that are useless so I bring you my idea of an ideal ring item in Minecraft.
In order to get a ring you would need to craft one out of gold, the crafting recipe would invole placing gold nuggets in the way you would make a chest into the crafting table. perhaps later on if these were added you could add gems for better effects. the ring, once crafted would be nothing more than an aesthetic until you made a blessing shrine. the shrine would be a very small monument with a beacon and possibly an enchanting table included somwhere onto it. once you threw your ring into the shrine it would be blessed and it's name would change to "Blessed Ring" now this is where I'm excited to hear what the community has to say. -
depending on what you guys have to say about this i was thinking about two things it could do.
1. the first is that it gives you a random good effect (like regeneration or night vision) and a random bad effect (like slowness or nausea)
the reason this is actually helpful to the games playthrough is becasue it will make journeys/adventrues and boss fights more interesting.
you could use the ring to help find the water temple if you get night vision, but you would have to take it off when you go mining because of fatigue.
2. The other idea was borrowing from the LOTR universe (because if we're gonna make a ring in a fantasy game then we have to include something along these lines) when you put the ring on you are blinded, but also invisible. you would not be able to run and you would have to wait before being able to take it off (because the ring will consume you).
I'm expecting people to go for the first one or a mix between the two so go ahead in the replies and tell me what you think! I'm excited to see what you guys think!
How to activate the ring? What do you mean gems, emeralds? How to build the shrine?
This suggestion lacks overall description and we have potions no need for a special item like this.I could just drink a night vision potion with no bad effects and still find the underwater temple or as I like to call it guardian pyramide.
For such a powerful ring, this is quite underpowered. For starters, why use two of the most powerful utility items in the game? An Enchantment Table is hard to obtain, and a Beacon is even extremely harder to obtain. And the result is one infinite good effect along with a negative effect. Furthermore, you state that the ring would "consume you". What do you mean by that, how would it work, and why? And each way you were deciding on this, it still sounds a little underpowered.
While it has potential for providing a use to some you listed (raiding water temples), I feel as though it takes away the integrity in using a specific potion. Because despite giving you one good effect, you would never have to use that potion variation unless you loose the ring. And how you explained it, using this ring with a specific effect and using it for a specific objective provides a downside, the negative effect along with it. So if you were to use a Night Vision-Fatigue Ring. It wouldn't help as much. Because already an Elder Guardian would effect a player with Fatigue, Weakness, and Slowness. The only upside it brings is the Night Vision part.
Now that I see it, I still can't support it, for these reasons:
One the first stat type, it would be too broken, what happens you get poison? Or wither? And on the flip-side, if you get regen, you would be too powerful.
And on the other stat type, blindness and invisibility don't sound like a good combination. You could walk into lava or worse.
"Gems"? "Shrine"? You really need to explain this stuff instead of mentioning this and just jumping to the next part of your idea...

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

I'll assume that the thread was bad from endergirl's and archieblade's post. But still, this is a bad way to start off on the Minecraft Forums.

I like this idea. Having rings with certain powers would be awesome in Vanilla Minecraft! Have fun and MINE ON! SUPPORT

At the current state of this topic, I like the idea of the effect system, but It needs some additional balancing. Until then,
