you do realize that on singleplayer (not added yet) you can probably only use this in a mob village. On multiplayer there is an iconomy mod already used a lot.
Ten times better because you can make arrows and Flint and Steel. Just light things on fire for lights.
And flint also beats out iron in minecraft, because iron pickaxes and buckets aren't used in everyday minecrafting.

WTF? I am not sure wether you are talking about multiplayer or singleplayer, but either way you could set something as a currency, like gold ingots, mushrooms, paper etc.

When people ask you to have an open mind, they are actually telling you to "stop believing what you believe," and to "start believing what I believe."
History never repeats itself. Events never happen twice.
Pounds? So your a British Chap eh? Not sure if you guys overseas actually say that or not. Sorry if I am being rude. As a side not, I was born in Germany, so I love the Euro!

I think minecraft is more of a trading game instead of currancy.
Different people and villages have different needs which would make your iron ingots worth more or less instead of a flat rate.
Currency just makes it easier to trade, but then you'll lose the fun of haggling over what to trade people and getting more resources in return if they really need something other than resorting to a list of prices.
Get paid for building or gathering resources in what you want, not a middle man that holds no value other than to show how much time or resources you spent to get it, which to me isn't worth as much as the original excursion.
if currency ever becomes official then the only way (in my opinion) to implement it would be by using one "item", that would be worth one dollar, or euro. depending where you are from, then this "item" would be exchangeable for one ingot of gold for ten of these "items".and then one gold block for roughly a hundred or ninety of these items. and then since the chance of finding gold to diamond is roughly 1:10 we could give the gold block around the same value as one diamond and roughly a thousand or nine hundred of the mystery "item" would be worth a diamond block
in this way we could establish a diamond, gold standard that is operationally interchangeable with a paper like substance which i refer to as the "item". the main problem is that in minecraft our numeric value goes from 1 to 9 we don't use 10 because our crafting tables only reach nine and therefore nine seems like a better value than ten does
(i realize it is hard to understand if you have no prior knowledge of commerce)
