Very amazing idea, would be great for creative builds. Speaking of creative, how will we put all this wool into creative tabs? I think there should also be a gray "template" wool so texturers don't have to texture all of this wool themselves.

Sounds useful for pixel art or mock shading on buildings. On he other hand, it sounds like it would be useless in survival unless carpet from the blocks could be made, and maybe the color of the wool finally influenced the color of the bed sheets.
I like this idea, but do you know that you can use different system from tile entities or metadata?
Grass and foliage does not use tileentities, it gets biome where it is in and then get grass color from it. In this case, color system is biomes.
So this means that you can write your own "color position" handler which will have position to rgba map, an then wool would just ask this handler for color at it's position and recolor itself... And this works...

well, I imagine it would work like armor stands and banners. it would have the base colors, that are already in but ot every single one. I assume that's what it would look like.

I'm almost completely inactive, in case you're trawling through really old threads and notice me somewhere.
I personally think it sounds great to have in the game, I would like to add this to my mod if you don't mind. or at least add some new colours in-between I'm not sure about making it RBG.

I Fully support this idea. Since We can't have wool be entities (or it'll lag the game), I have a temporary mini solution that might help: Simply bring back the old wool colors from "Classic" Minecraft (Or pre-Survival), and possibly ways to dye them. This may also have to work for hardened clay, and other things that can be dyed.
Aside from the technical limitations of the game discussed on page 2, there is a reason you get 16 colours.
Creativity comes from using limited resources to achieve something.
It is up to the player to use those tools to the best of their ability.
There is no legitimate reason why we should have 24-bit True Colour in minecraft.
It looks cool doesn't cut it. The developers would have to spend hours upon hours trying to implement it, then more days trying to the many bugs that will come with it. Mojang aren't gods. They are human.
Pixel art is fine as it is now. We have a few hundred blocks to use. Adding thousands more won't help.
If this actually happens, it will be mere seconds before the community demands that clay takes the same path.
If you need the colours for a RGB monitor in minecraft, use a resource pack.
The legitimate reasons for this suggestion are few and far between, only applying for a small amount of players.
The main reason in the OP for this suggestion was it looks cool. Many things would look cool if they were added. But this only has one main target, Pixel Art, which is a pathetically small part of the game and the community.
Bottom line, this would complicate Minecraft so much for so little profit that we don't actually need.
I did do that...

"Not possible" I believe that is just Mojang's way of being lazy, personally.
Also, if I haven't already, I support this idea fully.
