I wanted to liven up Minecraft a little more, maybe add some mobs that are kind of useless, but not too useless (sorry bats). Something that won't drastically change Minecraft. Ocelots will actively hunt the birds (1 heart per 2 seconds), though when tamed, Ocelots will still attack birds when tamed. Tamed cats will not attack a tamed bird. Even when there are no birds around you, birds can still be heard chirping, the only place where you will not hear birds chirping are underground, Nether, The End, and in oceans.

Drop: 1-2 Feathers and has a 60% chance of dropping a cocoa bean
Black, with a yellow and red beak
Height: 1 block
Biome Jungle
Pigeon:
Health: 1.0 Heart

Height: 1 slab
Biome: Spawns in and near Villages
Seagull:
Health: 1.0 Heart

Drop: 1-2 Feathers
White with slightly orange bottom.
Height: 1 slab
Biome: Beach, Stone Beach, (basically any beach related biomes)
Crane:
Health: 2.5 Hearts
AI: Stands in any water source (block), when provoked it will attack by pecking with its long beak (1 heart per 2 seconds). It occasionally "pecking" the water with its beak (as if to imitate it catching fish).
Drop: 1-4 feathers, and a 50% chance of dropping 1-2 fish
all Grey body
Height: 1.5 blocks
Biome: Swamp, Plains (around water sources)
Duck:
Health: 1.0 Heart
AI: Swims in any water source, occasionally dipping its head in the water.
Drop: None
Black with an orange beak (If beaks can't be added, then it can just be orange where the beak would be)
Ability: (Only available when tamed) When sitting, it will sound a harsh 'caw' when hostile mobs, or other players, are atleast 7 blocks away from you, or the tamed Raven.
Vulture:
Health: 2.5 Hearts
AI: Will fly away when approached from 4 blocks away, will attack cats if it is within that range.
Drop: 2-5 feathers, and 1-2 rotten flesh (since its a scavenger)
Black with a hint of dark grey
Height: 1.5 blocks
Biome: Desert, Savannah, Mega-Taiga, Mesa
Owl:
Health: 1.5 Hearts
AI: Will fly away when approached from 2 blocks away, almost always rests in trees (if there is any). Will watch the player. Spawns at night, despawns at day. Won't despawn when tamed or nametag is used.
Drop: 1-3 Feathers
all white
Height: 1 block
Biome: Taiga, Roofed Forest, Birch Forest, Forest

Drop: 6-10 Feathers
Brown with White head
Height: 1 1/2 blocks.
Biome: Mega Taiga, Taiga, Extreme Hills (+),
Eagle Nests:
Eagle Nests can be located on the ground (on hill-ish areas) but are more commonly found in trees, they are about 4x4x2 blocks. The blocks they are made out of are "Nest Block" which are a wood type block. The Nest block's texture are sticks that appear to be in a jumble, (though in a cube shape, like all Minecraft blocks). Nest Blocks can be made with 9 sticks in a crafting bench, and can be broken as easily as a leaf block, they burn the same time as regular wood planks, same burn time in a furnace, and will burn the same time as planks when on fire (until it disappears).
Eagle Nests have a 50% chance of occupying 1 Eagle Egg, 40% chance of occupying 2 Eagle Eggs, and 30% chance of occupying 3 Eagle Eggs. Eagle Eggs, are white with a few light grey patches, and are slightly smaller than an EnderDragon Egg. At max, they can occupy 4 eggs, (which only 3 can be found in the nest, naturally spawned), 1 Nest block can occupy an Eagle Egg.

The bird Spawn-egg will spawn a bird, randomized by type; Cardinal, Bluebird, Raven, Toucan, and Macaw. Snowy-Owl, Vulture, Crane, Duck, and Pigeons will have their own Spawn-Eggs.
Spawn Egg Colors:
Blue/Red - Bluebird,Cardinal,Macaw,Toucan, Raven, and Seagull
Grey/white - Pigeon
White/Red - Crane
Black/DarkGrey - Vulture
White/Black - SnowyOwl
White/Brown - Eagle
Nests and Taming Birds:
In 1 out of 15 trees, there would be a nest (near the edge of the top of the tree), you can pick up these nests by breaking them. You can put these in a crafting table (and in the crafting area in your inventory) to get 6 sticks. When broken,it can drop whatever amount of eggs are in the nest (randomized from 1-4). You can also pick up the eggs from the nest by right-clicking, (Only 4 eggs can be in the nest). You can use these eggs to tame a bird that hatches from the egg (It is randomized what bird will hatch). You trigger the "hatching" process by putting an egg into the nest (when placed on a block), the time when the bird hatches is from 5 to 10 minutes. The birds that can 'hatch' from the egg(s) are Bluebirds, Cardinals, Magpie's, Crows, and Pigeons. They will fly towards you when you are atleast 10 blocks away, which then they would fly and follow you. To make the birds "sit" you right-click the bird and the top of the block that you want them to "sit" on. (Currently the birds do nothing. I am thinking of ways they could help the player, or they could just simply fly around the player.
Sorry for the wall of text there.
[Again, completely optional. Reply in the comments if you want it with the suggestion]
When tamed, you can right-click a pigeon, and an inventory will appear with 2 slots, right above the slots you can register and select a friend to send the 2 items to. When registering a friend, you can type in the coordinates of where you would like to send the items, and type in the name. The items will be put in the nearest chest. If the chest is full, the rest will be put in a different chest.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Which ones would you recommend have removed? (consider that I tried to make every biome able to have a bird, native to the biome.)
i think only jungles and forest in general should be able of having birds,
1.-ice or cold biomes dont fit
2.-deserts are better for reptiles rather than birds.
3.-savanna i think they should have only big mobs
4.-plains biomes dont have trees so is unlogical.
5.-forest biomes have trees and a green ambient so its logical birds could live there
6.-jungle biomes could have birds with exotic colors because the large ammount of leaves and trees and the climate it makes sense that those birds live there but also it makes sense that ocelots attack them because they attack birds so we could have a small ecosystem.

Thats it Support they could be a nice atmosphere to the game also it would be great to make owls span on nightime and despawn on day.only able to keep up when named with a name tag.

Glad you like it! That's a good idea too. Wouldn't make sense to have an owl out during the daytime. Thanks!
I think these birds should instead having different textures, and organize them in types, similar to how Horses are organized into types. As for the other birds, such as the Crane, Duck, and Owl, they would obviously be seperate mobs. Overall, I look forward to seeing birds in Minecraft, and some that you listed, such as the Owl, Blue Bird and Macaw.

Do you know if the types of birds (like you said with horses) can be set to spawn in certain biomes? I'd like to not have a completely random bird (say... a cardinal) spawn in a Jungle..

Those are some great ideas! I'll add them in later, since I don't have access to the computer for long, where Im at. I was replacing the Magpie with the Macaw, since it seemed like a lot of birds to have for just only the forest. Also are you talking about the tameable pigeon thread? or just a different one,

Those are some great ideas! I'll add them in later, since I don't have access to the computer for long, where Im at. I was replacing the Magpie with the Macaw, since it seemed like a lot of birds to have for just only the forest. Also are you talking about the tameable pigeon thread? or just a different one,
I believe that's the one
Anyone know how to change my user name?

It'd be nice to have a much more ambient feel to the different biomes. I mean, you see the occasional sheep, pig, chicken, cow, etc but I think birds would be a great addition. Full support.
Trying to edit the thread/post with my step-mom's computer... such horrible performance, I can't even edit a comment!
What would you change about the nest (going off from the poll)
I would make it so that you couldn't turn them in to sticks.
Think about it this way, I can either punch a tree for 10 seconds or I can find a birds nest which might take 1-10 minuets and get 2 less sticks.
